Crazy to think about… A single Roman colosseum captivates the world and although I know that has a lot to do with the time it was built in, still it’s crazy to think about a future civilization finding the insane amount of stadiums we made if they by any chance still stood.
Well hopefully the future generations will remember that the Roman’s created stadiums to distract the masses so the “government” could do w.e they please and the citizens wouldn’t get mad…
Do you ever think about the fact that there’s a reason it stood and these modern stadiums will not? There were plenty of stadia in the Roman Empire, but not many of marble
I watched the Senators play there many times as a boy, and then later in life when I was in my teens I saw Nazereth, Ted Nugent , Lynyrd Skynyrd , and Aerosmith play in an all day concert there . Good times .
@@brianlyle4276 You should educate yourself before you speak on matters you know nothing about . In the 60's baseball teams and football teams in most cities shared the same stadium . This is why , on occasion , you would see football field markings and baseball field markings on the same field late in baseball season /early football season . The Senators and the Redskins SHARED RFK Stadium .
Live here. It very literally takes an act of Congress to get anything like this done. The new field is supposed to be in Virginia whenever it comes but they could've just fixed RFK while they played at FedEx.
People don't realize it was built in 1961. I went to Senators game while in college in DC in the late 1960s. Went to Redskin games in the 1980s. Probably one of the top 5 sports stadiums ever built in the US, and probably still highly usable. Congress nor the District has the will or in DCs case the money too make it usable again. Owners want and expect cities to pay for new stadiums every decade or so now, smh
I lived in military housing right next to FedEx field. The traffic was horrible on game day, obviously, but it was so much worse than RFK. The Maryland Commanders lol.
This stadium was in rough shape when I saw a Nats game in 2006 and the Nats moved out in 2008. My DC friend told me the overhang at RFK was leaking. I think DC United played there for awhile after that but I don't remember when they moved out. Of course, this venue and Fed Ex Field are in dire staits for the Washington football team.
I saw Monsters of Rock there summer of 88' when it was called RFK Stadium. Van Halen, Metallica, Scorpions & Dokken. Scorpions were the best musicians out of all of em.
Really sad to see honestly, I would fly to DC to play in the youth academy for DC United and we would get tours through the stadium and all the players locker rooms and stuff. I remember being there when it was empty it was such a beautiful stadium. To see it like this is like a piece of my childhood disappearing
I remember the fans that sold out RFK every game for decades. You had to put your kid on the waiting list at birth and then the kid MIGHT get tickets when they were in their twenties. And when the fans were bouncing the stadium in the NFC Championship against Dallas? Just awesome!
Yup my mom and dad were on the list for 15 or more years and now there’s no list at all up until 10 or so year ago there was still a list now the fans hate Snyder so much the beg people to buy tickets lol😂 I loved RFK infact I seen Michael Vick’s first pro football game there (pre season) that was cool. Many of concerts as well. Sad to see it go
I just wish they'd knock it down and use the space for the team. You could make an amazing stadium complex that travels over the road and into the designated parking lots behind it. Why not is because Snyder...
went to first skins game there 29 years ago. Sad they tearing it down. Also them leaving the capitol where they were historically great. Now will be lucky if it stays in maryland.
The stadium that was in the movie drumline has been in ruins for 15 yrs. It was built for the 96 Olympics and has turf and has a prime location downtown so much that the falcons new stadium is one block away. It has ivy growing over the turf. When the property value goes down they're going to build a casino there.
The more surprising part is that they didn't declare RFK a historical landsite. I mean it's the only place any one has good memories connected to that sorry excuse of a franchise.
I actually play soccer close to RFK, there are bunch of tapes blocking the entrance to the public field close to it, so I have to climb up and down a hill and cross a road that is not meant for pedestrians
I find the way buildings deteriorate after becoming unoccupied for some time strange. For example: the wall between the ceiling and press box. It's clearly seen better days, but I feel like that's an area that rarely got any upkeep while it was occupied. So why did it deteriorate?
This is what pisses me off about this country. Instead of remodeling old stadiums they rather spend billions more to demolish it and make a new one either there or somewhere else. In Europe there are stadiums built in the 60’s that look modern now. Even older ones are being remodeled to make them more modern and newer looking. I love RFK stadium it’s big and I always enjoyed games there. I don’t care for freaking lobbies that look like you’re at a 5 star hotel. Stadiums are for games not enjoying time at the hallways.
Instead of demolition just let the scrapers take whatever they want first then do the demolition then put a better stadium in its place for the Redskins
In my opinion it would be a killer airsoft field I mean all you have to do is fix anything that is serious not to mention but the amount of people who would come considering it's in our nations capital would be crazy
Heck, they probably could just give this a coat of paint and it would last LONGER than FedEx Field!
Naaaa. Been there. The outside looks even worst.
Future FEMA camp.
At this point, RFK stadium is gonna last longer than FedEx Field.
No better place to watch an NFL game in the ‘80s…Unless you were a Cowboys fan 😭😭
maybe the 60s and the 70s
Coming to 49ers House this weekend
? Does anyone outside of Dallas like them

Great point.

Meanwhile the Vatican is 500yrs old and is used everyday
I watched the Senators play there many times as a boy, and then later in life when I was in my teens I saw Nazereth, Ted Nugent , Lynyrd Skynyrd , and Aerosmith play in an all day concert there . Good times .
You poor thing. Your free now.
@@rogerringold616 My free what ? Oh , you meant YOU'RE free . You poor thing .😆🤣
That's cool the old Washington Senators with big Frank Howard and they see those rock bands that's really good
You don't watch the Senators play there. You watched the Redskins play there

Essentially the city is waiting for the sale of the WFT first, then they will tear it down and build a new facility for/with the team.
I saw my only baseball game in that stadium, back in 2013. I didn’t know it had been abandoned.
How was it
What was the team who played
What a shame! This speaks volumes about the condition of this country and whats being done to fix it.
😮
Most things in Washington are empty and rotting. Like Congress, for example…
LOVE urbex and chill best content on yt
They really need to stop tearing things down
Out with the old in with the new( new something anyways) nothing stays the same bro no matter how bad we want it to
That's the american way, put up a wally world and pave it with a parking lot.

Great place to see a concert. It’s right on the river with awesome grass tailgating. Love RFK.
I agree! I saw U2 there on their Joshua Tree Tour! Great place and awesome show.
@@seanswinton6242 that was my first concert. Then I saw the Dead there about 15 times.
Probably has more fans going to that now than any game of the WNBA!
I lived in military housing right next to FedEx field. The traffic was horrible on game day, obviously, but it was so much worse than RFK. The Maryland Commanders lol.
I thought Magneto dropped that one on the White House a while back now.. 🤔
He put it back when they finished fighting
Funny thing is that with minimum maintenance on the field, the baseball dirt starts showing again.
Baseball dirt? was this a baseball field before a football stadium?
A lot of great Memories! Will truly be missed. TheChef.
Saw the grateful dead play at RFK many times awesome place for a concert 🇺🇲

DC United kept playing there through the 2017 season. They moved to Audi Field starting in 2018.
At least we have never heard of RFK literally leaking crap water on the fans, like FedEx Field!
Greatest memory's of my life happen in this stadium. Think of all the names of great player's and coaches that have done battle on this Feild
Please stop using an apostrophe to pluralize a word. It's incorrect, and you just did it twice.
I saw Monsters of Rock there summer of 88' when it was called RFK Stadium. Van Halen, Metallica, Scorpions & Dokken. Scorpions were the best musicians out of all of em.
The commanders could probably spend less money renovating RFK and saving it then they would building a new stadium
Looks better than FedEx field
The Bengals had their new stadium built and Riverfront Stadium gone pretty much simultaneously
I love RFK. I miss going to Nat's games there like back in the day.
It's probably because of where this stadium located. LOL
But wait! I thought Magneto moved then demolished this stadium years ago? 🤣
Let's just call up Magneto.
The Marine Corps would happily house Marines in that stadium as is.
Nah the water is too clean
@@KetoCaNa good point.

Imagine how many homeless that could fit plenty of room to teach job skills and rehabilitation in our Americans future.
RFK, some memorable times there.
Tons of great memories at RFK!!!
🤦♂️Such a wasteful society, Malls abandoned after 20 years, stadiums/arenas replaced every 10-20 years, what about our schools?
And tax payers are made to pay for these structures so millionaire team owners can brag on how rich they are.
Aliens land in it..
“Anti-climactic…Let’s go home”
Man I still have photos with my grandfather from watching the Nats play at RFK

It was really cool when the nationals played there until they got their new stadium
The Proper People just did an urban exploration of this place.... We've seen worse places..... Pretty cool video actually....
Was looking for this comment. Finna go watch it.
I enjoy to this day visiting DC and going to that skate park right next to it
You could literally put *insert politician names here* wherever you said the stadium name and the audio works 🤣
Ngl I hope the new owner of the Commanders decides to fork up the money to renovate RFK so they can play games in DC again
They won't. I'm pretty sure the new stadium rights are for MD again, so the new stadium will definitely not be in DC
They're going to rebuild a stadium in its place. They're going to try to replicate the old stadium, even the bouncing. Be pretty cool to see.
best stadium of all time ..
i remember the last game there
We need to hold these teams accountable for stuff like this. Just use your damn stadium stop building new ones
Well let's throw in covid-19 into the mix so everything was shut down for 2 years 🤪
The Astrodome is still standing, and hasn't been used since 1994. The TEXANS have been in Houston 20 years now
Hoffas burial plot.
I just wish they'd knock it down and use the space for the team.
You could make an amazing stadium complex that travels over the road and into the designated parking lots behind it.
Why not is because Snyder...
No one wants to be the one to do it. When people think of rfk, they think of when dc used to have a soul.
I was going to make a joke about fedx field but you beat me to it
FedEx and RFK are both in Maryland. They haven't played in DC since Eisenhower was president
I played on that field at halftime one year
went to first skins game there 29 years ago. Sad they tearing it down. Also them leaving the capitol where they were historically great. Now will be lucky if it stays in maryland.
l remember that game..they were playing the shirts. They beat the pants off them,
I saw Guns N’ Roses and Metallica there in 1992. First show of the tour. Sadly, missed the opener, Faith No More, because of traffic getting in there.
They need to reinvent RFK Stadium and move the commanders there
I miss the old stadiums

Saw many Nationals and DC United Games in that Stadium.
Played in RFK twice. Great memories. 👍
I walked out with DC United for the national anthem in RFK back in 2009. Gonna be sad when they tear it down.
Hey, I'll buy it! I'll make the new football team, called "The Horndogs".
Colosseum!! Bring the circus back
When the old field was better than the new one.
I actually play soccer close to RFK, there are bunch of tapes blocking the entrance to the public field close to it, so I have to climb up and down a hill and cross a road that is not meant for pedestrians
Back up plan for the Olympics
Astrodome: Hold my beer 🍻
A metaphor for the team's owner.
Didn't Magneto move it in the 70s?
I find the way buildings deteriorate after becoming unoccupied for some time strange. For example: the wall between the ceiling and press box. It's clearly seen better days, but I feel like that's an area that rarely got any upkeep while it was occupied. So why did it deteriorate?
Reconstruction efforts could fix the place but will be costly but could work out
So what's the name of the stadium??
This kinda bums me out. I have some cherished memories from going to the HFStival there back in the day.

They have been doing demolition work since September of this year.
FedEx field got them childhood memories for me (18)
What's more sad is how much time and money people waste on fake sports!
Because to demo that thing is going to cost a few million dollars!
Just put some new security doors on and Grease the hinges. I’m sure it could be recycled.
10 years life after people building start to fall and go back into the ground. We look at RFK
Homeless shelter…🤔
In its day one of the best sports arena in the US !
Instead of demolition just let the scrapers take whatever they want first then do the demolition then put a better stadium in its place for the Redskins
At least it’s in DC
I remember huge music festivals there.
Yep. HFStival in particular.
If anyone is interested the footage in this Video is from channel called the Proper people.
Was also a great place for concerts!
In my opinion it would be a killer airsoft field I mean all you have to do is fix anything that is serious not to mention but the amount of people who would come considering it's in our nations capital would be crazy
Of course the tax payers paid for a new one. All Sports Arenas should be paid for by the team using said Arena.
I saw the foo fighters there in 2015 it was a sick show
Well it's difficult to find money for the renovation when it's all being used for better things. Like greasing palms it is DC after all
I liked RFK, even as a Cowboys fan. Great crowd there even though I hated them
Haha…a modern day Roman Coliseum
"Our nation's capital" should have never been put in DC in the first place. Hope they raze everything back there.
Honestly if you want that place demolished just say you're allowed to take the building materials free of charge.
It is on federal land and DC wants to get full ownership of it so what would have been a slow process is even slower
Everything in Washington is rotting away.
Ask Harris County Judge about the Astrodome
