i had braught 20 ghost shrimps on time for feeding, and majority died right away some got eaten , but there were 3 that stuck around , i payed no mind , to reconize a month later , now i got like 40 lol i never even relized the other 3 survived the whole time now babies and all that bullet proof damn near , i had moved them to other tanks various times no issues

My dream freshwater aquarium is a taller-than-it-is long tank with zebra danios (for their silver and blue colours,) blue velvet shrimp, a non-pest snail species and a hillstream loach. White sand substrate with black lava rock hardscape and tonnes of places to hide; I'd probably keep duckweed but I'm honestly afraid of most other live plants lol.
I recently started adding Crushed Coral. It will slowly dissolve and increase the hardness over time. There are chemicals you can buy but will need to see what your local fish store has available. You can even add limestone. The main thing is to do it slowly and to be aware of how much the chemistry is changing as rapid changes can stress them out.
I have only just started with shrimp. I just got some ghost to start off. They seem to be doing okay, one tank I have some Harley Quinn's and another with a sweet female beta. I just hate they don't live very long 😢 so once I feel like I can keep them alive and happy I will venture to more expensive ones lol This video was great btw very informative and helpful for my next buys. lol
I'm glad the video was helpful :) I feel that Ghost Shrimp have the shortest lifespan. Also, if your Betta by chance is bullying them, they could be getting stressed resulting in earlier than expected deaths.
These shrimp are not for consumption as we treat them like any other pet. The purpose of watching this video is to get people interested in the hobby as most people tend to keep fish only and this is another aspect.

Just brought in some neocaridina shrimp yesterday and one of the females seems to have some green algae growing on her swimmers. Is this something I should be concerned about
Ammonia and Nitrite at 0. Nitrates can be kept low but plants do use some of it up depending on what type of plants you have. Water changes can reduce Nitrates as well as using enough bio media in your filter where the anaerobic bacteria will take care of it.
What is the cause of the blackening of the filter pad and the growth of black algae in the filter tubes during the cycle process? Have you ever had this problem? Unfortunately, I've had a few failed cycles that put me off setarting an aquarium😩😥
If it's a new tank, there could be dust and debris that the filter pad is picking up from the water along with tannins from the wood. Algae could be forming due to excessive nutrients in the water column and also light. Algae are micro organisms and will feed off this and multiply. It's only natural for all this to happen. Lower your light intensity, do water changes during the cycling process, clean the filter tubes as needed and things should work out slowly from there.

@@alirezashahi7056 Beneficial bacteria tends to stick to the substrate, plants, glass, equipment and other decor. It's barely found in the water column. The milky water are from organisms that are trying to establish themselves and there's not enough beneficial bacteria in your tank yet. The free-floating bacteria and other microbes are taking advantage of the minerals and nutrients and are beginning to multiply unchecked hence the cloudiness. Changing out the water everyday clears the water temporary but the cloudiness will be back and may be worse as you're adding more minerals and nutrients which is feeding the bacteria. Leave the water alone because once all the nutrients are consumed by the bacteria, they will die out.
The reason you are not seeing baby Shrimp is because you are condoning keeping Guppies with Shrimp and Guppies like nothing better than baby Shrimp they will also cut the tails off Neons!
Most nano fish except for Otocinclus Catfish and possibly Bristlenose Plecos, will prey on baby shrimp. It's up to each person to decide whether or not they want a shrimp only tank or a community tank. I'm only providing information based on experience and what I currently keep in my tanks.
You might wanna do more research on ghost shrimp there buddy... The term "ghost shrimp" is often a description of many different types of shrimp, often from different countries, so it's useful to have a species name. The American varieties are Palaemonetes, and most of the time Palaemonetes paludosus is the species we're looking at in the freshwater hobby. It exists mostly in lakes southeast of the Appalachians which can be slightly brackish or completely fresh. As such, they can most certainly breed in fresh water. They CAN breed in brackish, but that doesn't mean they require it of course. Palaemonetes kadiakensis is a similar species existing all along the Mississippi river basin from the gulf of Mexico all the way up to Canada at Lakes Ontario and Erie, btw. Because there are so many shrimp that have this same transparent look, you never know what you might get at a fish store. Petsmart often sells Palaemonetes vulgaris which is largely brackish and doesn't do well in fresh; They're mostly sold as feeders, so I guess they figured they'd just sell them as freshwater aquarium pets too. -_-

I haven't kept these shrimp in a few years and there's always a chance that these stores can get different species from time to time. When I do create a species profile on these in the future, I'll be sure to include the information you provided.
Hence why they are number 5 and 6 because of tank size and how hard one of them is to find. But if you ever get a 20 gallon or 20 gallon long, these shrimp are still easy to care for.

Aquascaping it initially is always the hard part but if you're into the whole design process, it can be a lot of fun. The two latest videos on this channel are of my 20 gallon longs... one is a new design and the other has been running for over a year now.

My favourites are neocaridina for colour and Pinocchio shrimp for looks. I really love how they swim and their cute little nose!

How do I raise water hardness for neocaridina?

Sounds like a fungus. You should probably isolate her if possible and research treatment.

Top 6 easy to keep and the first 2 require large 20 gallon tanks... nothing easy about that 🤦🏿♂️😂
