  • After driving through our hometown in the snow, we drove up the mountain to the towns of Blowing Rock and Boone, for even heavier snowfall.

      We will, but it's gotta snow first. Last week has been quite mild, but they are saying maybe some snow tomorrow.

      Yes, I was rather impressed with that. I saw it on the way into town, and stopped to record it on the way back out.

    I used to play in that park in Blowing Rock when I was a little girl! If you had turned on 221, you would've driven right past what used to be my great grandparent's house and is now the Ridgeway Inn, I believe. Lots of happy memories in that town for a lot of my family members. My mom would move back in a heartbeat if she could!!

    Was up there last weekend for the big snow. Loved it. The roads your on now were terrible when we came down. But 321 down the mountain was great. It was still snowing that Monday morning when we left and the winds were blowing at around 40mph. We go at least once a winter. There was at least 12inchs.

    Thank you for this nice video! Very lovely! I currently live in a big city with lots of hospitals, shopping, and churches. Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. And we are thinking of moving to Blowing Rock, NC. Can I ask a few questions (if you know the answers)? 1. How close is the nearest hospital? 2. How close is the nearest Super Walmart? 3. We are Catholic. Is everyone there Baptist or is there a Catholic Church near Bowling Rock that you have ever seen? Thank you again for a very nice video!

      Thank you for watching and for commenting to let us know you enjoyed it.
      The nearest decent sized hospital, is in the town of Boone, about 8 miles away.
      I think Blowing Rock has a very small hospital, because I believe I've seen the sign for it. But I've never actually been to it, and I imagine it would be very small and limited in what they can do there.
      The nearest Super Walmart, would also be in the town of Boone, which is 8 miles from Blowing Rock. Or, you could alternatively go down the mountain to Lenoir, and there is one there. That would be about 18 miles away from you.
      While the predominant Christian denomination here is Baptist, I'm sure there is a Catholic Church in Boone, if not Blowing Rock. Sorry, but I honestly do not know the answer to that one.
      You would love the scenic beauty of this area. The winters at that elevation, would be comparable to what you experience in Pittsburgh. The fall season is absolutely gorgeous, and the summers rarely ever hit 90, and are usually in the upper 70s to low 80s. It can even get cool at night in the summer.

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  Рік тому

      @@annieskinnz6903 Boone has already had 2 light snowfalls, but there is currently no snow there now. There's no way to predict snow on a certain day. They typically do get some snow in December, but not every Christmas is a white one. It's literally a coin flip.

    Thank you so much for the video. I'll be heading that way next week. Do you know if I can take 321hwy from Charlotte Airport straight to Blowing Rock??

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  2 роки тому +1

      Not directly from the airport, no. 321 does not run to Charlotte.
      From the airport, you'll need to get on interstate 85 South, until you come to Gastonia. I think it is exit 27 where you'll exit off of Interstate 85, but don't quote me on that. Just look for the sign for 321 North. That is where you will exit off on to 321 North. From there, yes, you can take it straight to Blowing Rock.

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  7 місяців тому +1

      Well, January would probably give you your best chance to see snow. Nobody can guarantee that, but there's certainly a good possibility. They are saying we are going to have a pretty snowy winter this season.
      And you can even go higher than Boone, like up to Beech Mountain. There may be some there, even if Boone has none.

    Thank you for the tour. How much snow does Blowing Rock get through the winter? We live in New Hampshire. I didn't think they got much snow. Beautiful area! What is the average cost of living like? ~ Diane

    • @NCMemoryMakers
      @NCMemoryMakers  2 роки тому

      Blowing Rock averages nearly 40" of snow per Winter. Some of the surrounding mountains get much more. Beech Mountain, which is a town about 45 minutes away, gets between 80+ inches per year. The Western part of North Carolina and East Tennessee, is much snowier than most other areas of the South.
      As far as the cost of living here, I don't really know how it would compare to New Hampshire. It's certainly cheaper than places like California and New York, but land in Blowing Rock would be more expensive than where I live down the mountain. It's getting pretty expensive everywhere now.
      In fact, the Smoky Mountains, which are west of here, got 10+ inches of snow just this past weekend. There are several ski resorts in Western North Carolina.

      Derrick & Shawnasi- Thank you for responding to me. I am new to your channel and upon opening your video library I was struck by the many prayers going out to Shawnasi's mom and your kindness in answering my NC comments at this time. We are a 3rd generation large working farm in Central NH. We three are all 70- something and running a 350 farm on our own by the grace of God, since March 2020. Because of Covid risk, no outside hires. We will be praying for the plans that Jesus has for Carolyn. It was a blessing and honor to have my mom into her 80s. If you have an email, I can send you a few photos of our farm. In-Christ ~ Diane

      I was searching for the Blowing Rock/Boone area. My good friends retired to NC. Their granddaughter lives in Boone. One of my favorite authors is Jan Karen. I have all her Mitford series books. I starting reading them in nursing school during lunch. When people walked by and asked me what I was reading, I said I was in Mitford and wanted to live there! I will send some pics of our farm to you after lunch. Our farm is termed "A little slice of Heaven". Grass-fed beef, dotted along rolling green ridges, overlooking a lake. A snap shot of rural 1940s New Hampshire...
