      It makes one wonder how George Stevens managed to keep his "King Fish" status at the 'Mystic Knights of the Sea Lodge.' You'd think with his gypping and swindling ways, he would have been voted out of office and not have a friend in the world. We must not be seeing something for the other 23-and-a-half hours of the day with Kingfish.

    These episodes, with the way the actors mangle the English language, are fine examples with how _forgiving_ the English language is when it comes to comprehending what people are saying; as people can use horrendously poor grammar when speaking English, yet, still be understood.
    My French mother said that people in her native tongue could never get away with such poor grammar when speaking, as they could not be understood if they spoke French with such mangled grammar as what was heard in the Amos 'n Andy episodes.

    In the 1940'S. 1960's 0akland CA, DIDN'T HAVE, A THE BART TRAIN ,OAKLAND, COLISEUM, Oakland main Library Etc. The only thing Oakland was known for was the TRAIN STATION ON 16TH AND WOOD STREET. THEIR WERE BLACK MEN MAKING CANDY & DOUGH NUTS , BETTER THAN ANYTHING I TASTED . Recently. RIGHT across the street from the TRAIN station. Their were many German's , Greeks, English, Chinese & Blacks living among EACH other right after WORLD WAR 11,. NO ONE GROUP THOUGHT THEY WERE BETTER THAN THE OTHER, . MOST OF THE ACTORS ON AMOS AND ANY WERE BORN LATE 1890S EARLY 1900'S,
    THEY WANTED TO WORK! LOOK ALL THE PEOPLE WHO GOT A J O B ,. BECAUSE OF THOSE EXCELLENT ACTORS. THAT WERE RAISED IN THE SOUTH ,. JUST LIKE MOST BLACKS IN AMERICA,. SOME BLACK & WHITE TALKED BROKEN ENGLISH . BEFORE And After WW 2 ,EVERYONE WAS GLAD TO BE ALIVE,. NOT ENOUGH TIME TO HATE,. PEOPLE THAT LOOK LIKE THE CHARACTERS ON AMOS & ANDY, BULT THIS COUNTRY. Amos and Andy as a comedy show was entertaining, no doubt. Yet, it was how the show was used as a vehicle to justify and promote White Supremacy, that is the problem. Think a show that only portrayed Blacks as highly educated, efficient, organized, and serious professionals would have made national TV in the 50's as a weekly series? We know the answer to that question. Amos & Andy was only allowed on U.S. TV to demean Black people weekly for a national White audience. I don’t have any qualms with the actors in this comedy, they were great performers. Unfortunately they were used to provide the only real reference most Whites had of Blacks, and Blacks had of themselves on T.V.
    For every "Life of Rilely" Whites had other shows like Bonanza, Ben Casey, Dragnet, Perry Mason, and other shows to counter balance Whites as a people. Blacks just had King Fish, Amos, Andy, Sapphire, and Lightning, with most stories centered around the only really shiftless character of the bunch, King Fish. That was NOT by accident.

    • @smoothoperator7023
      @smoothoperator7023 3 роки тому +2

      No doubt!! I just saw a video where they had a show to introduce the characters before the 1st episode & the white guy calls one the actors a BOY!!!🤯
      And the episode where Kingfish thought Sapphire was pregnant, the Amos character is played by a WHITE GUY IN BLACKFACE!!!
      WTF????? Where was Alvin Childress? Were there not any black actors to do that role?? Unbelievable.

    It was quality t.v. but, I guess black people were so happy to see other black people on t.v. that they didn't think of how weak and irresponsible King Fish was when his wife had to emascalate and denigrate him to go out and get a job in that manner. Makes a black man look triflin. I don't like the basis of this film, even if it is true in some cases about how shiftless they want black men to look. I guess our people didn't know any better in those days. But, other kinds of people are lazy and shiftless too. Through it all these actors were still great and did the best they could, with what they had to work with way back in those days. They were more than likely happy and proud to have those film jobs. And, despite the racial fall out, black people were still proud and happy to see them. We used to call people to come over from blocks away, just to see a black person on our television. Because, everybody didn't have a television in those days.
