Love my e-bike. You should try out the Orbea Rise. A great e-bike that's somewhere between a regular mountain bike and a full power e-bike. Much lighter than a full power e-bike.
@@TheLawwillboy that what I said, until I demo one. Now my regular bike is collecting dust in the garage. Get an ebike, take it to your regular jump track and I guaranteed you'll jump higher and you'll put in 100 more laps.
Omg MORE of this please!! Adventure riding with scenic views 🙌🏼 I’ve lately gotten a little tired an uninspired by downhill parks and enduro laps watching youtubers go up and down, up and down, just focusing on development and gnarly features but I wanna FEEL something when I ride! The environment is equally important to me as the features, I wanna breath crisp air, feel the aww and be on an adventure sometimes, not always bombing down to take the lift up.. doesn’t get me going. This type of biking is like mixing hiking with MTB = 100% sense of FREEDOM
yep going up and down many times on the same track does get very boring, i gave up that stuff for the pure joy of riding different trails every time . I f you ride the trails with friends then the fun is double!!
After a second stint in hospital with a serious illness and being housebound for 2 months an e bike is the only bit of freedom I'll be able to enjoy and which will also aid my recovery and build my strength back.
Hei Paul, the SLX casette will actually work better than XT or XTR on the emtb as it has more steel sprockets! If my emtb came with an XTR casette I would take it right off as brand new and replace it with a full steel Deore casette. The alloy sprockets on an emtb rear casette do no last due to the high power climbing, so why waste them!
I've been riding all kinds of bikes for 40 years, but last year I bought my first MTB and it was an e-bike. And oh my god, never mind the haters: IT'S SO MUCH FUN!! The biggest advantage, for me, is that I have very little time to ride. An e-bike allows me to put in a 20 km lap during a lunch break, and the motor assistance helps me "fast forward" the boring asphalt, uphill bits (wherever I go, i always I have a few km back uphill, on asphalt, to get home), so I get back without being a complete wreck, and continue with my day.
I feel it. My cardio schedule is so off and on so I basically start from zero every 3 or 4 rides. My 0 is like a min foot mile. It's very discouraging. If it weren't for my emtb I wouldn't be able to mountain bike.
I had given up on mtb riding after the 90s. I was suffering from a bad knee and was finding it hard to get into good riding condition with my work schedule. Also, I wanted to see more places but the terrain was too extreme to get there on a bike. I then sold my Cannondale and completely walked away from mtbing, but sometime into my late 50s I took an ebike for a test ride up a rough hill and I was hooked! I'm on my 6th ebike now (I keep upgrading) and am loving it.
10:02, na, that's not true. Your previous scott gambler was slacker at 63.2 in the high and 62.9 in the low geo setting, compared to 63.7 for the giant.
Oh, Elfin Lakes, been there in 2009, amazing place! Wish I had a bike for the approach, road is quite long and boring to walk till you get up there above the forest :) eBikes are the best! Got mine almost 3 years ago, one of the best buys ever! It makes riding so much fun and gets you to places you wouldn't even think of trying on normal mtb. Climbs are faster and more fun, makes ride so much more dynamic and you still get proper workout, especially if you use only eco mode, which I do 99% of the time, and you have to use eco if you want to get far with lot of elevation gain. What many people don't understand is that you can really push yourself on ebike in any mode and still go to the edge of your comfort zone and beyond and make heart go to the red. If you are that type of rider you will still have that same style on the ebike but you will be faster for the effort. Cheers from Croatia!
Stunning video! Thanks for not another 8 min handlebar go pro slog. Love the shout of freedom about 2 mins in, THAT is what e bikes are about. I've got 1700 miles in a year on my 2021 Giant Trance E 29er 3. Riding up ski resorts in Park City, UT 8 miles to 9,000' is a game changer. Meet new people, let them ride, explain the local rules. Downside is: typical day I run out of food, water and trail. 24 miles, cross country, 43% battery left. Like Paul says, just listen to the bike, the cadence, the motor, rarely boost into 5 mode.
As I recently took a demo on the Focus Sam^2 6.9 out for laps in my backyard I couldn't help but think that ebikes are the way good mountain bikers can just get more. More descending, more climbing and more fun. I had an hour and half between dropping kids off and picking them - a normal outing on my Switchblade gets me up and down once with maybe a bonus somewhere mid mountain if I'm feeling it. The ebike demo I did 4 laps and over 4k of vertical, still broke a sweat climbing, pumped the quads and arms descending, kept wanting more with time to do it and was totally gassed at the end but got so much more riding in a short blast. Plus still had the legs to jump on the cargo ebike for the kindie run!
Nice work Paul! great vid as always. May have a vid idea for you. I have had a emtb for a couple of years now, however i still ride my normal bike more! I have found my normal bike riding has improved dramatically (i have been mtbing since the late 90`s) because you ride so much more on the E. So when you get back on the normal it is so light, playful and fun. So maybe you could do a vid on how your riding improves or gets worse by riding the E? There is a reason many many pro`s use them for training!
I bought the electric trance this past spring and rode some 1500 km since, it's been a blast - you get to see way more trails than I ever could on my own.
My new Turbo Levo Comp supercharged my love of mountain biking again. At 60, was getting to be more like work with the analog bike. Same for my wife who also snagged a new one. She thanks me every time we ride!
Ebikes or regular bikes, it's all good. MTB/EMTB is just so much fun regardless of which you prefer. The Reign E+ looks good, I'd not seen one until watching this video!
Hey man. Loving the vids. I started my own channel a couple of years back and content like this is really inspiring. As I get more into editing I realise how much work goes into them. You have them dialled! The shots are great and you switch between different cameras so well. I love the composition of the edits. They have a lot of story in them and they are so well thought out. I also like how well you come across in the vids. It seems like you are just being yourself which is really cool. Anyways, I just thought I'd share the positivity with you mate. Have a good day 😁😁😁
Love the setup. Ebikes can be an awesome solution for people who can afford one. We've been thinking of getting long travel eMTBs to take with us road tripping as we don't have chair lifts or shuttle buses at lots of our regional trails, but they're fairly pedally and hilly trails.
I have the trance x e+ 2021 and it was the best decision I have made, I ride since 8 years ago now I really enjpy much more my ridind, I don't compete just for fun bike parks jumps, some easy Enduro and lot of trail, I am thinking to move to the e reign 2022 but I am not sure about the mullet setup, I think for my type of riding and routes 29-29 will give me more, I will try to try out first
I got an ebike to do recon on practice days for enduro, but I like it a lot and have used it for more rides. Still preferer my analog Transition bike but the eB is fun!
So I think e-bikes are the future but I still feel they are very terrain specific. I don't see ever wanting one for my local trails but I can see their advantages when exploring new places while traveling.
I definitely enjoy the pedal old-school for various reasons, but if I lived in that terrain with brutal hills and epic scenery i'd 100% go ebike. In the end its about what gets you out there enjoying the moment. Great vid...beautiful scenery holy heck!
I think that much of the misconception when it comes to e-mtb is that it does all the work for you. I like to consider it as an hybrid bike. The electric engine is just helping me. It makes me reach further with the same amount of energy. It doesn't do anything for me. Steep climb in loose terrain etc makes you use really low power. Otherwise you'll just spinn the tire or do a wheelie. And it's a good workout going down hill as well. It's a lot of weight to control and handle. Of course I could just blast max power and hope for the best all the time. But in general I prefer lower power in the woods etc for more control.
This summer rode my Trance+ to Elfin, then hiked to Garibaldi icefield and back to parking in one amazing day. Would not been possible for me on a regular mtb.
Now that I've moved to the flat lands of the midwest (from the wonders of Colorado), I loved this video for the epic scenary. I would like to get an e-bike but the one thing that is still holding me back is the trail access issues across much of the states. That and also, I'm not sure my generator and battery bank on my van is strong enough to charge the batteries when I am traveling. I would love to know if you are able to charge that E+ from your van without having to rely on the grid.

29er in the rear ? Hi, great review. Helped me lot in my decision to settle for this ebike. Do you think it is possible to put a 29er in the rear ? Having the intention to try it out in the next weeks.
I gave up cycling due to a misspent youth crashing motorbikes and damaging knees, if it wasn't for an e-bike, I wouldn't be cycling. Not only that, I use it to commute to work on good weather days, which means less time in traffic, not getting to work all sweaty. For those reasons, I'd advise anyone to get one
Same here, years of motorcycle accident injuries got to the point last year that after a days biking I felt like a gang had set upon me so sold the enduro and got emtb, so far loving it doesn't help that I'm wrong side of 50 too.
I couldn't agree more regarding eBikes. It's not cheating, it's a redistribution of available resources - wether that be time, fitness, etc. I ride a few very hill trail centers and the climbs beat you up - especially when it's 90+ degrees and high humitidty. The eBike gives me about three times the ride time. How can that ever be a bad thing....? Yes, I still ride acoustically, but having the option is awesome. Also, just got the wife an eBike and now we she is able to experience some nice long rides and see things just not possible on an acoustic bike.....
What’s interesting is if you asked a rider: do you like riding far? Do you like going fast? Do you like efficiency? Do you like newer bike technology? They’d nearly always says yes. Yet many seem to be against ebikes. I’m looking into a Trek ebike that makes more financial sense than a Santa Cruz I have been eyeballing for years. The ebike is a clear winner, for me. I often see lots of people saying “if your legs work, just ride a regular bike. E-bikes are lazy”. Well ok then. Let’s use their logic. Why does your bike have gears? That’s lazy. Use a single speed. Why does your bike have tires with air? Just sue solid rubber like the good old days. Why do they have front suspension? You don’t need suspension. Stop being sensitive and lazy. Why is their rear suspension? Stop being lazy. Why is their bike made of aluminum or or carbon fiber? Stop being lazy and ride a steel frame. These types of people can never be satisfied. I love the electrification of things. I love skateboarding but an electric skateboard lets me go farther and faster. I also broke my foot two years ago and it still hurts to kick. Electric skateboards solved that. My Onewheel has gotten me to surf spots nobody really cared about or would waste time walking to. I can explore areas I’ve never seen before. I don’t use my car now that I can Onewheel. It saves gas. My husky gets his exercise with a Onewheel. He’s getting the proper exercise he needs that I simply cannot provide by running or walking. Electric bikes I’d imagine are the same. Go further and go faster. And go anywhere. Nobody bats an eye when you ride a an ebike all over. But electric dirt bikes catch some hate.
Damn, I wish they had e-bikes like this when I was a kid. But hey, I'm only 57, I just ordered the Giant Reign E+ 2 as well. I think e- bikes are the best thing since, well the bicycle. 😂
This 29/27.5 means you have to have more tyres and is a money maker. I have 27.5 and about 12 in the shed so if I was to have one of these I would have to have another 6 to cover all the different conditions I have to ride in. Like today was full maxxis DD shorty and DHF as it was very muddy, to say the least. The bike looks good and Giant are very good warranty wise.
its funny how you are giggling as soon as you start pedaling, samething happened to me when i first rode one. I picked up a 2022 giant reign e+ 3 nice bike!
This bike is in my short list! Very beautiful looking bike! Is the new Yamaha motor strong and quiet compared to the Bosch and Shimano? Any rattling noise on the downhills (Shimano and Bosch do rattle when going down the chunky bits of the trail). Keep up the good work!
mine doesn't rattle at all either. it's basically silent in top gear but there is some motor whine when climbing / under load which you might expect / get with any motor
I think e-bikes are a brilliant idea. Either my next bike or the one after that is going to be one. Same effort but more distance. There is still a disadvantage as at some point you will have to lift it over an obstacle or through some un-ridable terrain.
What sort of bike hooks you using in your garage to hook all your bikes by the wall? Because can’t manage yo find some wich you can turn on a side that bike is not on a way
Would you have been able to start/finish that ride from home? Just curious if the drive to the trailhead was necessitated by battery life or the Tim's stop... ;p Keep the great content rolling!
This is the future! Because mountain biking doesn't have to equal masochism. And it's not like I'm going to get a motor bike or something; I'm not lazy, loud, and destructive. ;)

I love these vlog style videos.
2020 Levo Comp. Absolutely love it
Man your flying up that hill!
If it gets you outside enjoying the fresh air and makes cycling more accessible then an e-bike gets my vote.
Bike looks sweet paul how much does it weigh giant are bit cagey ?
OMG... That view is amazing
Great video Paul, and the scenery was breathtaking.
What were the stats for the ride, eg. altitude and distance.👍
I forget how beautiful it is up there! Have you done the ride before? If so what was the time difference between the e bike and a regular bike?
It took less time 😂
This bike is in my short list! Very beautiful looking bike! Is the new Yamaha motor strong and quiet compared to the Bosch and Shimano? Any rattling noise on the downhills (Shimano and Bosch do rattle when going down the chunky bits of the trail). Keep up the good work!
Not that I’ve noticed!
mine doesn't rattle at all either. it's basically silent in top gear but there is some motor whine when climbing / under load which you might expect / get with any motor
@@BrennanLetkeman The motor whine is acceptable as it is present on all motors...the rattling isn’t. Do you own the new Reign+ 1?
No rattle at all, giant reign ftw
I think e-bikes are a brilliant idea. Either my next bike or the one after that is going to be one. Same effort but more distance. There is still a disadvantage as at some point you will have to lift it over an obstacle or through some un-ridable terrain.
There is a walk mode😉🤙
Farmer's wrap, nice! That's my Tim Horton's order too!
What drone do you use?
Wow you have put together a fantastic video here very professional footage well done I love it and you do live in a very beautiful part of the world.
What sort of bike hooks you using in your garage to hook all your bikes by the wall? Because can’t manage yo find some wich you can turn on a side that bike is not on a way
Feedback ones, find my garage makeover video
Beautiful ride!!!!
amazing shots!
Great edit!!
Yeh! That's also what I found amazing on a ebike 😉 more fun uphil and more time for downhil !
I love your videos. Awesome quality content
Wow what a beautiful place.
nice ..but what drone is that..
The majestic landscape scene grabbed my attention more than the E-Bike.
how heavy is the bike ?
Absolutely beautiful video!
What day is it? March 30th 2020 still
Great video, thanks 👌☺️
Would you have been able to start/finish that ride from home? Just curious if the drive to the trailhead was necessitated by battery life or the Tim's stop... ;p Keep the great content rolling!
Hmmm good question! I think without gear and in Eco mode……easy.
I had a few ebikes they are fun but I never felt like I was getting a real workout
epic drone footage!
Beautiful scenery 👌😎 Ending was a bit long 🤫🤣🤣
Nice ride up
Just bought a Giant E+ mountain bike and I can say I love it, but want to make is go faster, anyway
you should come bike at kamloops
Great video. Thanks :)
when is you movie coming out paul
This is the best ebike video you have ever made 🤣. Makes me E-bike-curious.
You should!
This is the future! Because mountain biking doesn't have to equal masochism. And it's not like I'm going to get a motor bike or something; I'm not lazy, loud, and destructive. ;)
Who will get the first MTB Tim hortons sponsor first: Paul the punter or mike levy??
