- Patrick Dempsey reacts to Ellen Pompeo seemingly leaving 'Grey's Anatomy.' On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' the actor and host joke about Ellen’s Instagram post, where she seemingly bids farewell to her character, Meredith Grey after 19 seasons. Ellen writes, 'I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons!'

400 episodes is a crazy milestone, and to still be going (for however long) is wild. Meredith Grey became Ellen’s entire career, and I’m sure that isn’t what she expected when she first put on the scrubs. Thank you for so many seasons of memories watching with my mom and my friends, for always giving us something to talk about at school or work on Friday. I was 9 in 2005, I’m almost 27 now. Grey’s has been around for so many era’s of my life it feels weird for it to move on without Mer. But I know I’ll still be watching come February, because of course, the carousel never stops turning.
This, whenever i search Ellen pompeo in movie sites the only thing that pops up is greys anatomy
She said in one interview that she was interested in the role was because at her age, most roles for women her age were as mothers. She thought this role she could be more versatile and sounded interesting to her. As years went by, she grew with the character and only more roles as mothers were available for her age and gender. She killed it and definitely props to her for sticking with a role that long!

This show will forever hold a place in my heart, Meredith Grey especially. On my way to becoming an obgyn because of my love for it through just watching. Ellen paved the way for sure
The show lost a lot by killing off so many people : Derek, Lexi, Mark. There’s no room for so many great characters to even come back
I wish so much that they had kept Lexi. She was wonderful and would have been reason to keep watching after Ellen left. Plus, I did so like Lexi and Mark. What a couple.

@@mehrshahzadkhan I quit after Derek left. I tried some episodes when Nick came on the scene. And I know it's just me. But they just don't have his hair right. He can easily wear a fuller head of hair with the shape of his face. 🙂
The show isn't going to be the same without her. But she has given us 19 years of her life. 19 great seasons. I can't wait to see what she does next. I feel like the show is coming to an end though, we have lost so many great characters over the seasons. Definitely a bittersweet moment. 😒

I agree the first few seasons were the best. I quit after Isiah Washington was fired. Then I binge watched all the way until to Season 10 on Netflix years ago. But I quit watching after Christina left the show to work with or where Isiah Washington's character was working. That was a good stopping point for me. Merdith is the last of the original five interns to leave the show. MAGIC. Merdith, Alex, George, Issie, and Christina.

I can't see them starting the show over with a new set of main characters.
Not gonna lie... I'm a little heartbroken. But I think this will be a positive step for Ellen, and it might also breathe some new life back into the series with such a major change-up. Time will tell, but I will continue to support my Grey's family.
So far the new cast so 👎, now Ellen the main character is gone too, Can barely watch it with these new comers. The show gets more boring sadly. 😢

@@saramccarthy9560 The last episode Shonda wrote for “Grey’s Anatomy was the musical episode of Season 7. She handed the reins over to Krista Vernoff and has been quoted as saying that she very much wants Grey's Anatomy to be Krista's show and vision.
@@Jumbaride yeah Addy is cool, I wished they cast better if they going to bring in new comers, so far this season so blah and nothing interesting with the characters. I don't even get some of the people they kept that totally do not match the OG casts original they use to have that left. I so don't get it, I use to be such a fan of the show and if they going to change it, at least cast better. I dread watching it now, but I do want to like it because the Grey show has been around forever and I did love it, want to support it. Torn, I recorded it, but have not gotten threw it lol.
How will it still be Grey’s without Grey? The show’s had so many strong characters leave that it’s pretty much hanging on by a bandaid…
I think because the show is a double meaning. Greys anatomy is an actual book.

Personally, I don't think I'll continue to watch this current season with her not being around, I bet it'll feel weird watching the show without her like the way I felt watching the show without Dempsey, but one thing is for sure though, I'll still rewatch previous seasons, watching old episodes brings nostalgia, gives out amazing energy. (specially seasons 1-5)
Me too.. I love rewatching the old seasons. The first crew was the best, u really get attached to basically all the characters. I hated when Christina left, for me she was the best character.
After her it wasn’t the same but I kept watching until season 12. Then I kind lost interest in the show. But I will watch it eventually.

Lol, I even memorized some lines and can name all episodes from the first five seasons, my mom says the show's taking over me lmao I stopped watching for a month during season 10 because I was so sad (Still haven't watched Cristina's last episode, skipped it) I tried to watch season 11 (skipped Derek's last episode, too sad for me lol) then from then on I continued to watch till season 19, I mean it'll never be the same as the old seasons but I guess it'll do, some storylines are still good

This show has genuinely inspired me to consider taking my psychology degree into the medical field, and not only that, but it’s inspired me to push forward despite any and all hardships, to be a shark when I need to be, to be a shoulder to cry on for my people-that’s another thing it’s taught me; family isn’t always blood. You can choose your family and I have. I love this show, I love her, and I’m sure I’ll still be watching it years from now lol!

I'm one of those who spent 20 years in active addiction so I missed a lot during that time. Thankfully, due to technology, I'm able to download whole seasons/shows and watch at my convenience and Grey's Anatomy was one of them. Having finished ER I was looking for a similar show and this show, Grey's Anatomy totally enveloped me with such good acting, writing and personalities. I have binged on it so much and it's been a good "high"! Even now, I won't watch the current season until it has finished and I can watch one episode right after another without waiting for it to be aired. When Christine Yang left, a significant part went with her, being she was my favorite character, and to say the show can continue after Ellen having left I think we're only fooling ourselves. She has been blessed to have had such a positive and secured future during her working career and we have been blessed being a part of that experience. I wish her and all the supporting actors and actresses continued good fortune.

Oof this is truly the beginning of the end. But what a ride. I watched when the first episode came out back in 2005 and I can't believe the show is still running in 2022. Its truly a soap opera, ran for so many years and most of the original cast is not there anymore.

I was in high school, and the show was at season 5 when i started watching it. Now i'm very close to graduating and being an actual doctor.
Ellen pompeo is a true artist and understands when a shift needs to come for the greater good! I love this! She is a powerful woman. I deeply look up to her! She rocks!

I didn't quit after George, I didn't quit after Lexi and Mark, not after Derek, *almost* after Alex. But Meredith is where I draw my line in the sand. She is the show. And Ellen herself has said over the last few years she was wanting it to end too. I understand the writers want to keep the show going but Shonda has said when Ellen is done, so is the show.

It's been a wild ride with Meredith grey and Ellen is right she has been on the show for so long and she does need to move past it but for me it heart breaking to see her leave. but at least she will still be in some of this season for season 19 but still im sad but happy for her that she can move passed greys! we will miss you Ellen!

idk what people are saying by the show cant go on without mere. like i get it but for the big supporters and long time watchers of greys i fall in love with new charecters all the time! and this past season has been the best in the last 3 years imo. I thought she was just stepping away for a bit? I've been binge watching and on S11 now, there are definitely a few story archs where she wasn't as present because they had plenty of characters and story lines. I'm glad she's taking a break, she's worked so hard and deserves it.

Man, I remember when Grey's was still the "mid-season replacement for ER" lol. It's crazy how the time just went by.
I personally haven’t watched the show in a long time but I can’t imagine how “Grey’s Anatomy” will go on without Meredith Grey. Maybe the rest of the cast is good enough to carry the show for a while but not long term. I hope I’m wrong for the sake of those who might need the money now.

I guarantee this isn’t the end of her character. These posts were probably a way for the main people involved in the series to confirm that this reduced role was just for this season and she’ll be back for season 20. I’m sure of it.

I thought they were gonna end it a long while back. Why is it still on? I stopped watching many seasons ago. Crazy that it's still on! Scandal came and went. How To Get Away With Murder came and went. Private Practice came and went. Grey's Anatomy? Still breathing with a broken lung.
Crazy to think Shonda Rhimes started out on ABC and now she's doing other amazing projects on other platforms. I love watching Shondaland productions.
The house she shared with Derek? Ummm… it’s the house she shared with everyone: George, Izzy, Lexie, Alex, Jackson, April, Callie… after that, Cristina, Arizona and Jo and Amelia and Maggie. Very few characters have NOT lived in that house. That house has been a HUUGE part of the show.
Not to mention it was her childhood home, but ofc they’ll exclude Ellis when paying homage to Meredith, as she’s her own extraordinary
