- Patrick Dempsey reacts to Ellen Pompeo seemingly leaving 'Grey's Anatomy.' On 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' the actor and host joke about Ellen’s Instagram post, where she seemingly bids farewell to her character, Meredith Grey after 19 seasons. Ellen writes, 'I am eternally grateful and humbled by the love and support you have all shown me, Meredith GREY and the show for 19 seasons!'
400 episodes is a crazy milestone, and to still be going (for however long) is wild. Meredith Grey became Ellen’s entire career, and I’m sure that isn’t what she expected when she first put on the scrubs. Thank you for so many seasons of memories watching with my mom and my friends, for always giving us something to talk about at school or work on Friday. I was 9 in 2005, I’m almost 27 now. Grey’s has been around for so many era’s of my life it feels weird for it to move on without Mer. But I know I’ll still be watching come February, because of course, the carousel never stops turning.
This, whenever i search Ellen pompeo in movie sites the only thing that pops up is greys anatomy
She said in one interview that she was interested in the role was because at her age, most roles for women her age were as mothers. She thought this role she could be more versatile and sounded interesting to her. As years went by, she grew with the character and only more roles as mothers were available for her age and gender. She killed it and definitely props to her for sticking with a role that long!

The show lost a lot by killing off so many people : Derek, Lexi, Mark. There’s no room for so many great characters to even come back
I wish so much that they had kept Lexi. She was wonderful and would have been reason to keep watching after Ellen left. Plus, I did so like Lexi and Mark. What a couple.

@@mehrshahzadkhan I quit after Derek left. I tried some episodes when Nick came on the scene. And I know it's just me. But they just don't have his hair right. He can easily wear a fuller head of hair with the shape of his face. 🙂
This show will forever hold a place in my heart, Meredith Grey especially. On my way to becoming an obgyn because of my love for it through just watching. Ellen paved the way for sure

Personally, I don't think I'll continue to watch this current season with her not being around, I bet it'll feel weird watching the show without her like the way I felt watching the show without Dempsey, but one thing is for sure though, I'll still rewatch previous seasons, watching old episodes brings nostalgia, gives out amazing energy. (specially seasons 1-5)
Me too.. I love rewatching the old seasons. The first crew was the best, u really get attached to basically all the characters. I hated when Christina left, for me she was the best character.
After her it wasn’t the same but I kept watching until season 12. Then I kind lost interest in the show. But I will watch it eventually.

Lol, I even memorized some lines and can name all episodes from the first five seasons, my mom says the show's taking over me lmao I stopped watching for a month during season 10 because I was so sad (Still haven't watched Cristina's last episode, skipped it) I tried to watch season 11 (skipped Derek's last episode, too sad for me lol) then from then on I continued to watch till season 19, I mean it'll never be the same as the old seasons but I guess it'll do, some storylines are still good

This show has genuinely inspired me to consider taking my psychology degree into the medical field, and not only that, but it’s inspired me to push forward despite any and all hardships, to be a shark when I need to be, to be a shoulder to cry on for my people-that’s another thing it’s taught me; family isn’t always blood. You can choose your family and I have. I love this show, I love her, and I’m sure I’ll still be watching it years from now lol!

I didn't quit after George, I didn't quit after Lexi and Mark, not after Derek, *almost* after Alex. But Meredith is where I draw my line in the sand. She is the show. And Ellen herself has said over the last few years she was wanting it to end too. I understand the writers want to keep the show going but Shonda has said when Ellen is done, so is the show.

I was in high school, and the show was at season 5 when i started watching it. Now i'm very close to graduating and being an actual doctor.
Ellen pompeo is a true artist and understands when a shift needs to come for the greater good! I love this! She is a powerful woman. I deeply look up to her! She rocks!
I wish Cristian would join her on her last episode to rekindle that epic friendship.

It's been a wild ride with Meredith grey and Ellen is right she has been on the show for so long and she does need to move past it but for me it heart breaking to see her leave. but at least she will still be in some of this season for season 19 but still im sad but happy for her that she can move passed greys! we will miss you Ellen!

I thought she was just stepping away for a bit? I've been binge watching and on S11 now, there are definitely a few story archs where she wasn't as present because they had plenty of characters and story lines. I'm glad she's taking a break, she's worked so hard and deserves it.
Shonda is such an amazing person that I’m not worried about what will happen after Ellen leaves. Maybe we’ll get more memorable characters that die off less.

I think season 20 should be the end of Grey's. It's should be dedicated to the entire cast bring everyone back one last time christina and Alex should be there along with izzie and Callie and Arizona. Mers last patient should be her first patient. That was her first surgery with Derrick. Amelia would be with and saves her and that's how she says good bye to Derrick to Seattle to greys.
I'm going to miss her on the show she played Meredith grey very good it's not going to be the same without her I don't know how long I'm going to watch it with her not being on there she made the show underwear never be another one like her hopefully she stops by now and then congratulation to whatever else you're doing in life God bless

It's left up to interpretation. They were dreams but she also believes they were special dreams and that some of the people she saw in them were real. But if she talked about it with her friends they would all give a different answer. I'm sure Amelia would tell her exactly what part of her brain was producing them, OTOH someone else more spiritual or religious might agree with her that if someone dead wanted to speak to you, they would use your brain and dreams to reach you.
@@junbh2 i agree with the idea that it was left up to interpretation but i disagree that it was simply a dream sequence based on the context. Meredith wasn’t just sleeping, she was in a coma and fighting for her life. we also have to remember the beach was a figment of Meredith’s imagination, and likely her interpretation of what heaven would be like (confirmed by George and Derek) it would make the most sense to think she was in an in between state of being dead and alive because she not only interacted with her deceased loved ones, but those still alive could still come “visit” if they were talking to her physical vessel, just not actually communicate like she did with Derek, George and the rest (the scene where Bailey tells Mer her mother has alzheimer’s)
Didn't Shonda say Grey's will end once Ellen leaves? The show should respectfully close down and honour what it was. Don't make people hate it and eventually stop it

As much as I enjoy the show I have to admit it’s long since become pretty unbelievable. That so many crazy tragedies would happy to one person gets a bit hard to swallow. I mean, the odds of being in a mass shooting, plane crash, bomb, almost drowned, Covid, so many more, and now house fire, by lightning strike?!? I mean…dude….this makes winning the powerball look easy 😂

It’s GREYS Anatomy. Without GREY it’s nothing. We fans deserved a good solid goodbye. This is ridiculousness. I was never one to say without this character or that character I won’t watch anymore, However, without GREY I’m stepping away. We hardly even see that last of the main originals anyways.
I've loved this show since day one, literally, but I don't know how it goes on without Meredith. I was NEVER a fan of her and Derek, I though he always treated her like crap, but not having the GREY in Grey's Anatomy is sorta silly and maybe time to end the show...though I'd love to see a season 20. Then end it and have all the characters who are still alive come back for the farewell like ER did.
The reason she's leaving is fairly simple. There is nothing deep about it. She's been playing that role for over 18 years. She is ready to take a break/try something new.

i would love to watch the other characters continue their storylines, especially the new interns AND LUKE BEING A NEW SHEPHERD ON THE SCENE -- because we did get attached to the other characters just as much, but it will be very odd to not have Meredith every single day. i hope she continues to come and go so she can still provide the entertainment but not have it be her entire life as it has been thus far but only if she wants to. i would just hate for her to feel like she NEEDS to come back. she's a fan favorite. we will love meredith grey forever and always!!!

The only reason 90% of Fans stayed through all this bullshit after Derek died was Meredith. Now she is gone to. It’s sad that Ellen tried to get away from Greys. I’m glad she finally got what she wanted!
I got up to season 16 and honestly just a bit fed up of everyone dying. Delucas death following the child trafficking story (which wasn't even shown on Greys Anatomy!!) - SO unnecessary. I'm sure there have been some good storylines since but it's gone on way too long in my opinion.
Her saying the young people makes me feel so old 🤣.
