Man, I love this game because it's so easy to break, haha. A few tips from a powergamer: 1) Not only does time freeze at night, but you can use it to get infinite work done. There's a hot springs up in the mountain. Every time you jump into it, it restores a bit of stamina. If you have enough patience, you can clear your entire farm plot of all debris the very first day of the game! If you REALLY want to min/max like a crazy person, you can earn a cool 900~1200G and still end up with I think three or four power berries, a completely cleared farm plot, 999 wood, max dog affection (you don't even have to pick the dog up 100 times on different days, just doing it 100 times in a row works just fine), and completely maxed out hearts with Eve before the start of Day 2. 2) Wild animals attacking your livestock is based entirely around if you have any broken fence pieces or not. Which means that, ironically, having NO fences at all on your entire farm actually makes your livestock immune to being attacked. That said, yeah, it's completely pointless to let your animals out so it's kind of a moot point. Also an interesting point about the dog - leaving it outside or bringing it in, even leaving it outside during a hurricane, doesn't reduce how much it likes you at all, but if you leave it outside, it will bark during the night if you have any broken fence pieces. It doesn't actually scare the wild animals off or protect your livestock, but it can make you aware of any broken fences if you're still using them. Personally, I always leave it inside, because it can get in your way and block your movement when you're trying to harvest your crops, wasting valuable daytime. 3) This may be kind of obvious, but you can put fences back into the wood bin to recoup the wood. Combined with the above tip, since fences are completely decorative, it can be handy to 'recycle' all of the pre-placed starting fences to get a head start on your housing upgrade wood. Also also obvious, but the tree stumps on the mountain respawn just by leaving and re-entering the area. So, again, combined with the infinite nights and hotsprings, you can always chop as much wood as you want in a single day. 4) Again, this seems kind of obvious, but since time doesn't pass while indoors and you get infinite time at night, the first thing you should do every day is tend to your animals inside the coops, then harvest all crops, then tend to relationships you're working on. Everything else can be done at any time and it doesn't matter, but shipping and talking to people are the only time-sensitive tasks. 5) If you want to get an estimate of how you're doing, you can hold L+R+Select when you go to sleep at night and the game will skip you right to the credits, then give you all of your ratings at the end. If you reset, the game will put you back at the next day as if you hadn't skipped. If you're trying to go for a "perfect game" or get all ending cutscenes, it's handy to check your progress.
You can also max out Ann’s and Maria’s affection score as early the first Sunday while they are at church speak to them and answer Yes to their questions you gain 4 affection points per yes (max is 999) just exit and re enter the church as much as you want to answer the questions.
@@vrenan99I am not sure that part is accurate. I've played almost every Harvest Moon, especially the older ones, and I remember putting fences back in the bin took a while to be a standard feature.
I actually recently got this as a gift for myself, and I am doing research on strategies so I don't completely suck when I try this for the first time. This is super helpful.
Thank you for uploading the best hm game, i like that i dont see any glowing squares pop up on the ground as if im selecting a block on the ground. Simple pixel graphics makes me feel more realistic than 3d graphics.
A few corrections, animals outside will eat mature grass, if they don't find any, they starve, meaning chickens will not lay eggs and cows can go sick. If you want to keep animals outside, best way is to make an enclosure of logs that has enough grass inside. You can actually go to sleep while holding something, so you can do one last trip to the mountains at night and get something to ship first thing in the morning.
Something I think is important to note is that the horse is bugged and will not count items as shipped unless your character is in contact with him when placing a crop. It plays a little animation of the saddle bags getting bigger. If that animation doesn't play then you just wasted an item
a couple of tips destroy any wood fencing seen as wild dogs only appear with them on the ground also do any farm work like planting watering and rock and lumber collecting at 6 pm seen as night is infinite
I've been having a surprisingly good time playing this on the switch online release! I'm a long time fan of the series but my first HM game was on the GBA so I missed these earlier additions. I can't believe how well it's aged! There's a few quality of life things I miss like an inventory and character sprites but overall it's still been an addicting, fun experience. Thanks for these tips!
I began playing yesterday! I joined when it came on DS but bought the GBA one after I played IOH. Since then I’ve played nearly everyone after that! It’s an addicting series! I plan to play this game all summer!
I'm 28 and grew up on this masterpiece. Got it around 4-5, and watched my mother play it and had a huge love for it. It's still so well made for a game from that time.
I forgot so much of this stuff. I played it so many times on the SNES that the OST is burned in my memory. Stardew Valley has been a great successor to this game and I never knew about the marriage bug. That would have been so useful to know for repeat playthroughs
This was where it all started for me. I probably still have my print out of the walkthrough from Game FAQs. I can't believe it has been 21 years (for me).
My favorite game of all time. I wish there was an updated version of this game with just a backpack add on. It's so good! I wonder if anyone's released the code for it so we can mod it?!
I knew most of these, I played the game when I was younger, Now 29 years old, I'm replaying it again, I'm already halfway through the game in 2 parts. I remember almost every heart location. I even speed ran harvest moon friends of mineral town in 7 hours, I got all 10 power berry's. + 1 ice berry, this was my type of game, I was really good at, along with Pokémon & golden sun/zelda/dragon warrior/Final fantasy.
The chance that wild dogs will come and eat your chickens is dependent on how many broken fences you have. They tend to break after it rains. If you have no fences then wild dogs wont come at all, so fences are just for if you like how they look. You can destroy broken fences with a hammer and you can get more fences in the shed beside your house that has a sign telling you how much wood you have. If you don’t want a fence that isn’t broken, you can pick it up with A and then either throw the fence in the water or walk off screen.
My first harvest moon game was Harvest Moon 2 GBC because I was obsessed with all things farming, zoo, and animal related (I was mostly obsessed with farming related stuff xD). Like my grandpa got my twin brother Harvest Moon 1 GBC and Harvest Moon 2 GBC for me so that we can both trade animals and whatnot via the link cable and that's what we did. But I did get to play this game once I got into emulating games and I really appreciated everything this game brought to the table, the fact that it started a whole genre in the gaming world is amazing. I also appreciate that Ellen is the old lady in Harvest Moon 64 (and possibly back to nature and friends of Mineral Town).
One thing I also learned, I think your overall score at the end of the game as well as an ending(I could be wrong about this since it's been a while) is influenced by how much land you used. I remember having planted grass for the farmland that I wasn't using crops for in order to increase my score when I was playing this.
You can actually Cheese this by placing Fence pieces in every available Square on the final day. It’s time consuming to do it but you’ll get a better final score
I hope they put it on the SNES simulator on the Switch. I really want to play this game. I am a 00 kids, so I basically grew up with DS design. People are complaining that Legens has bad graphic but I just want my pixels back.
My wife strat, when i was young, was always to get a chicken asap. I honestly believe chickens are op in the entire franchise. It's always my early game strat.
pro tip: animals only get attacked when the fences are broken. That is, if there is a broken fence on your property, there is a chance of losing an animal outside. I notice that LOTS of your fences are broken. Also, you can solve this by having no fences :P
Now that this game has been added to the switch online, let me just share that rocks can be used in place as a fence and do not break. That way you can have your animals outside. ;)

Somebody please reply he said calfs don't need to be feed is it the same when you first get one since they are young when you buy
Thanks for watching even when I upload videos about a 26-year-old game! 😅🥰
I love watching these, the vintage graphics are really cute.
Now these tips are helpful with the new switch update!
im currently playing this master piece, that trick with the girls is fire~
thnks for the video🎉

had no idea about last one this is genius
Tip Number 3 isn't as cruel as you think: The reason you don't need to feed the Chicks of Calves because the Mothers feed them until they're grown up.
Real life chicks don't need to eat on their first day as they still have nutrients from their eggs yolk.
Something I think is important to note is that the horse is bugged and will not count items as shipped unless your character is in contact with him when placing a crop. It plays a little animation of the saddle bags getting bigger. If that animation doesn't play then you just wasted an item
..............So that's why I only got paid for my eggs that one day. I thought I just forgot if I did a harvest or not.

My dream game would honestly be features from FoMT with these SNES graphics. There's something so cozy about it that couldn't be matched.

Watching for tips since it’s now on Nintendo Switch Online 😁
wow i was just thinking about this game last night. and was also about to cancel my switch online subscription
Wait. Does that mean you can play the game multi player online?

Oh, that's possible! I know there is a happiness score that is calculated for the endings, but the game never says anything about it. 😅 Good to know!
@@JoshGamingGarden It's not very well known fact I think so I'm not surprised that it wasn't mentioned in the game. Happy to have helped!

great work.
Im having some problem to pick wood 😢 my axe is a total garbage and i dont know how to improve it fast.
