Regarding packing and playing Tetris with the belongings: I take pictures of our baggage areas and the bed of our truck with everything packed up so that we remember where it all belongs, especially if we stay somewhere for an extended period of time. I then created an album within Google Photos called RV Packing so I may find the photos easily. If we change something, I update the pictures.
We're in Canada now in Kouchibouguac NP, moving to Fundy NP in about a week. Can't recommend Kouchibouguac highly enough, and have talked to folks here enough to be looking forward to Fundy. Took a side trip to PEI in the toad for a few days and ate lobster rolls every day at lunch. It is stunningly gorgeous up here (Dad said it was 102F in North Texas today ... 59F to 73F here tomorrow!)
This made me laugh out loud. How can you tell somebody was a sailor? he’s damn good at 2 things , firefighting and patching a broken pipe. We never forget our damage control training, save the buttercup! Great video as always
You guys influenced us and we've been full time in our 2002 Tiffin Allegro Bus for 2 years now. I'm watching from the other Portland...Oregon. We traveled coast to coast last year and loveed it. Since I am a heart patient but have been healthy enough to travel. At the end of May, I had another small stoke, it fully resolved itself and I have no residual damage at all, but my wife had to drive from the wilderness of Central Oregon, to the town of Bend. I was released the next day. At first, she was done traveling because it freaked her out. Now, we will limit ourselves to being somewhat near a town with a hospital. So, we are still in the rig, but traveling less. Thanks for all you share with us. My medical history... 10 heart surgeries, 5 stents, 1 quad bypass, thyroid cancer, 5 mini-strokes, and hospitalized and survived a nasty bout of covid 19. But I'm still kickin'! Bryan Green-ONeal
If you are ever back in Maine, you need to try the lobster shack in Cape Elizabeth. You get to sit outside right on the oceanfront and right by a lighthouse from two light State Parks. Their seafood is awesome as well. If you go back to Canada, don't forget to try a Poutine. The Italian Poutine is my favorite. Hoping to be full-time by this time next year maybe we'll see you out on the road. Happy travels!🦞
So so true!! We have a Class C and my friends and family have a misconception about 'glamping'. They all think it's an easy, no hassle way of camping, but it's like you said LOTS of work goes into it! We love it though ❤❤
I was there stationed in Berlin in the Army from 1987 to 1990 when the wall came down in 1989. My wife and I got married 2 months before in Denmark. We thought the East Germans would come across by the 1000’s. They didn’t, because they couldn’t afford western German goods and Svc’s. We met some East Germans, we took them out to dinner and showed the around. Many of the military families did that. They spoke a different dialect of German, but knew most of what German’s call “high Deutsch”. Each of the 12 German Pfalze’s (states), speak a different dialect of German different enough that they can’t understand each other, so they have high deutch. We toured eastern Germany, the people were happy to see us and was interested where we were from. Great video!
@@todayissomeday I want to visit New Hampshire , Maine, Mass, Conn, Rhode Island after these states, we have seen all of the Northeast. Then we have Idaho, Montana and North Dakota , one another trip , Hawaii and Alaska . These are the states I have to visit.
Canda Go west side to Vancouver, Canda to the border to A Rope bridge with the View of a Water fall very deep.go in the summer time to make sure U don’t freeze to death or get stuck in snow storm.
So glad you spent time in our hometown (Scarborough), I retired from the Army to here and when our son leaves the nest, we’re going to saddle up in our own Coach and hit the road. Pretty sure I saw y’all in traffic on Sunday heading south! Nobody leaves on Sunday! Anyway… we love it here and hope you did too!
Great video! Something to add to “you better be okay with it” list, is laundry. If you are lucky enough to have an on board washer/dryer it’s not to bad but those who have to use a laundry mat it can be challenging depending on where you are RVing. Smaller meal prep areas and one of my personal issues are the hard to pull out drawers. They are tight for a reason but pulling hard to open them does get old after awhile. Happy Camping and Be Safe y’all.
You are so right about living together 24/7. The first 3 months I felt like I was in my first 5 years of marriage. Where do you want the pots? How do we communicate backing in instructions? I will have to say we got through it. In September we will have completed the 1st year as Full Time RVers. We still want to do it. I’m grateful John is a handyman. He is resourceful cuz things do happen. Thanks for all your tips. They really are first year run smoothly.
Great stuff, totally agree with non stop packing, amazing how much crap u just dont neef As far as parking i got a bunch of hi vis bollards for the rear and side of my RV and had no more fender bender problems
We had a power problem on a 100 degree day. Lost one leg of power and one AC. Hughes PWD showed 120V on each leg. Started the generator and all was good. Since it was 100 outside and the sun was shining on the ATS compartment I just ran off the generator until 10PM. The next morning I turned off all power and checked out our ATS. The wire going from the output of the relay to inside the rig fell off. It was never fully inserted into the connector! Put it back in and then tighten up 70% of the loose connections in the ATS! Moral to the story is the ATS needs maintenance also - out of sight does not mean out of mind.
Nice to see a marlin spike,ah the memories. I retired a GMC in 2004. Spent a lot of time pulling mooring lines on ships (cg16,ddg54,cg67). Keep the video's coming
Just came from Booth Bay last week. Really enjoyed it. At Bar Harbor area now. On another note, I always thought packing up looked easier for the bigger rigs as they have more storage. We have to fit it all in minimum space. Lol. Nice video. Thanks for sharing.
As a fellow full timer and having a 38' class a with a 20' trailer (63' long total), there is always a point where you are committed to putting it somewhere. I understand Phil's interest in his services history. Even with Army history, it pops up where you least expect it and I ALWAYS stop and learn about it. RV Trip Wizard is awesome. It makes researching trips so much easier. Its the best value for the money.
We use RV Trip Wizard to help plan our travel. We joined after catching up with you guys in the booth at the Florida RV Super Show several years ago. We enter the places we want to go on the trip, then set dates for things that have specific dates (events, weddings, cruses, etc.), and then we start filling in the journey with places to stay and routes. The route and itinerary are setup based on staying at the RV parks in our membership, Harvest Hosts, boondocking locations, lot docking, and any other places we want to stay. We planned our fall trip to New England and back to Florida this way. We are also using this method to plan our trip from Florida to Alaska in 2024.
Great job in the LL Bean parking lot … we did not find the lot conducive to staying over night … we did park in the middle lane and work all day … then shopped in LL Bean and had our Lobster Roll in town … we moved on to WalMart to boondock
We stayed in a small camp ground one night and when I checked the park wiring and found the wiring leading to the plug at the park was arcing because of loose connections.
My husband & I just started full time RVing. Adjustments, you are so right. Love, like and change some behaviors. It is not difficult, but definitely an adjustment.
I know you like RV Trip Wizard, but I still like Excel. I can add rows for alternative campgrounds in the area, in case we can't get in to the one we want. I have a column for what activities we want to do at that location. I have columns for number of miles to travel, number of nights and nightly camping cost. At the end of the Excel sheet I have an estimate of how much fuel we'll need (and roughly what that will cost) and what we'll pay for camping. It's a way to estimate what a trip will cost beforehand.
Great video, hey Phil eat some lobster 😊, being able to trouble shoot is very important. My wife also does the planning and I do the driving, Also we were stationed in Korea (Go Army) and have never gotten tired of each other, Nov. will be 30yrs of marriage and almost 4yrs of RVing. Safe travels
I love to watch ya'lls videos, they are so informative and comical at the same time. Since my wifes stroke I've had to quit work and stay with her so i understand the getting along part in a small place
We have watched and subscribed for over a year, funny how many similar things have happened to us too, we had things fall in shower and bathroom, one put a small dent in our bathroom sink ☹️, we had a leak at our water pump, road debris hit our stablelizer, our power cord was dragged once 😒, our water line frozen once ( now I have a heated hose for colder areas) our airstream slipped off its block in front but was able to still connect, our fridge had error codes, after internet search was able to reset, our gas went out, it needed to be bled worked again, we need 50amp but can run on 30amp with one Air conditioner, yeah probably more and more to come 😉. We camp about half time through out the year due to my work but still love camping our next outing is 16 days long with Yellowstone and another 4-5 parks along the trip.
We're in Prince Edward's Island now after spending a month in Nova Scotia, including Cape Breton Island. Watch out for alcohol quantities when crossing the border! Great 7 points but a summary at the end would have been good. We stopped connecting the "dog" at the pedestal as it was too sensitive! Our rig has a good energy management system. RV Trip Wizard is a must for full timers! Many hours to plan and book places.
What campground did you use for your stay in Portland? If you like lobster rolls you should try scallop rolls. Especially if they use the small bay scallops. There are lots of great places to eat in that area. Next time try Becky's Diner. They can make a well done burger. We have never stayed overnight or taken the RV to Bean. We stay at Cedar Haven Family Campground, nice place. Hope you found the Bean outlet store where the big markdown/sales are. A place you might like, When Pigs Fly bakery in Freeport.
@@todayissomeday Nice place. One time we stayed just down the road at Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park. The only problem is in the early spring the trees drip sap all over the coach and toad.
Hello guys Just found your channel I'm really loving it especially the Canada trip I'm a Canadian in the UK for 55 years and Canada is still the place where my heart is I also rv in the UK we call it motorhome here what you have would never get around most places especially Cornwall I love the fact you show the human side of things like forgetting the step things that we all do and reality of traveling in a motorhome / RV each video I've I watched has been first class engagement and educational Sending kind regards Haley
So Stacy, I plan all the trips and love spending hours doing so but my one complaint with RV Trip Wizard is I wish there were different icons for say Harvest Host/Boondockers Welcome places, National Parks, Historical etc. and places to eat ( ie lobster roles). When I plan day outings I have to realign or put 1 day in if we’re returning to the same place. Not a big deal as I put HH in front of places or CAR TRIP if we’re driving to somewhere for the day. I also wish UA-camrs would include parking suggestions for places, I loved the LL Bean parking info. Thanks for the video, it was great!
I totally agree with the icons! I wish if nothing else we could upload our own. As far as adding a location more than once, I do that. You just have to reenter it in the search bar. Sometimes I will type in the address instead of the name or vice/versa. Then after its there I will change the title so they are the same.
Go Navy!! Phil rocks--yes to hamburgers. Your video is a perfect example of my number one saying and that is "It's Never Easy". Just except that is life and deal with it. My latest example is I had a medical procedure test that is about fool proof. I get the results and didn't work and I have to have the test again. Wasn't shocked as I live by saying #1.
Great video, enjoyed the longer format. I don’t know if content creators follow other content creators but Kevin from Paving New Paths did a video on troubleshooting his Fantastic Fan very recently - might help Phil with yours? Continued safe travels!!
You guys are great! I am not able to live your style but it looks like fun. I might get you a shirt that says We do this so you don’t have to! Lol Happy trails❤
Wow, 4 hours of research for a 10 day trip is nothing - it took me that long just to research the hiking trails in NS and Cape Breton (elevation change, mileage), then more to look up birding hotspots and recent sightings, travel distances, how long I think I’ll want to drive in a day, lodging, whale boat trip schedules, etc….etc. Thankfully I enjoy researching. On that lobster boat do they show you how they kill the lobster? That’s the part I disdain - I’ve never liked it anyway, or any other seafood or meat for that matter….Cape Breton was gorgeous!
Thank you for another informative and entertaining video. I think someone one said you have the perfect travel kit when you reach the point when there is nothing else that you need to leave behind. My husband once asked me if I have even owned a vehicle I had not slept in... No I don't believe I have. Oh and a few I only rented. My thought has always been less is more and there are stores in most places. I would add #8, if you can't laugh at or with the problems you may not want to live in a vehicle or RV. Some of our breakdowns made for some interesting stories. You just can't take yourself too seriously. Thank you for taking us along on your adventures. Safe travels and maybe our paths with cross out there on the road.
I hear you with troubleshooting. I am a first time home owner and it is an old house and I am having to fix and repair or replace things. It is the same except your house can go cool places.
We are retired and love long term RVing in our Jayco NP 310 RLTS. We own our house and enjoy getting home and recharging and schedule our next 30-40 days out,
I was just there and stayed the night in that same parking lot a few days ago in my van. Would have loved meeting you two😁😁LOL I put an end destination into google maps then stop in every town in between. Course I live in a Ford Econoline Van so it's not as big a deal parking for me. I use IOverlander to find places to park for the night.
We've been fulltimers for 6 years and I rarely do much preplanning. I'm more like Phil, I just get in and go 😁 though I do take a peak at Campendium or Allstays from time to time. We did Yellowstone in 2021 in July and stayed in Tetons and Yellowstone parks with our 41ft 5th wheel without reservations. We relied on boondocking sites or if we needed hookups (laundry) I'd usually pack up and drive into the campground even if it said it was full and ask if they had any cancelations or no-shows. Rarely did they turn me away, usually offering at least a night or two and on one instance I got 4 nights in one of Yellowstone's bigger campgrounds and this was during peak summer season 😉
I wish I could afford to be a part of your inner circle, I would've told you that a mandatory stop for me is Wasses Hot Dogs in Rockland, ME, get you a couple of the best hotdogs you will ever have in the world, then go walk the breakwater out to Rockland lighthouse!! Full warning its about a 2 mile round trip out and back so wear sneakers!!
We just realized you were a few sites down from us in Pleasant Hill Campground. We had the same issue with the utilities for a couple of days. We just switched to solar. So close to getting to meet you in person, lol.
Hey guys!!! For your Scottia trip, you should get in touch with Mark and Trish (Keep Your DayDreams) because this summer this is where they have been (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, PEI). Thanks for the advice, I'm glad that those 7 things, I found to be petty stuff. Off to become a full timer... YAY!!!
With the storms going on in the North East USA and Atlantic Canada it’s possible you were experiencing power brown or blackouts in the electrical grid not necessarily the park’s problem the also if a parks water system is connected to the local government water grid the local government can up the water pressure at any time without telling the rv park especially if there is a new housing development by the park that happened to a rv park in OHIO
We love your channel and have been watching you for years. You give us inspiration and encouragement while we wait our 5 years until we go FT! How much time did you take you to prepare to hit the road full time? (including research, purging, selling the house etc)
@@todayissomeday yeah we watched all of those, I was just kinda of looking for a length of time. Originally I was thinking I could do it in2 years but now I don’t think that’s even enough!
I have to look back at all the times I would have to help my dad when we went camping, we had a 5th wheel trailer and there was a lot of work setting up camp and then packing back up. I can agree when you all say there is a lot of work. Just like when I work at the church, I am behind the scenes where people don't see all the work that goes into it. I always love the sites you all go to. These videos I can watch all day long.
We are just ending a monthlong trip of the eastern Canadian provinces(Nova Scotia, Newfoundland, PEI, New Brunswick and Quebec). It was a great trip. Great things to see and do. We have an F250 and a 22" Lance travel trailer. We have been all over the US and Canada, including Alaska and Yukon, but I have never encountered roads as bad as the roads in eastern Canada. The Trans Canada road systems and the national park roads are good, but the Provincial roads and municipal roads are extremely bad. Our trailer has been dismantling itself on this trip. Expect deep potholes and brain jarring frost heaves. These are worst roads in North America. Be ready to do some repair work on the road. We have never encountered roads this bad in western Canada or anywhere in the USA.
That water tap line should not have been plastic it should have been the freeze proof tap on a metal line connected to the pole and the water tap should be at least 20 feet away cause water and electrical not a smart idea
There are so many places to go in Texas that I hadn't considered Maine. Looks like it might be worth the drive if we want to point the RV NE instead of NW. Thanks for showing us the great possibilities. I'll behave and not ask if they have jalapeno flavored ones if we go up there.
Nothing like a lobster roll from New England! I get mine in MA! Phil, could you kindly tell me the name of your sunglasses in this video? I can see they Oakley, but I can’t identify the style. Thanks!!
Not all full timers move as much as some, I believe most Full time RVers don't travel as much as ones with UA-cam channels we are going Full Time soon traveling from North in Summer to South in winter (Snowbirds) KINDA
Full time rvers all go at their own pace. We know many without YT channels and some of the sit for 3-6 months at a time and others travel faster than we do. Everyone has to move on their own pace. The only right paces is your pace.
Are you guys headed to alberta ? im from canmore and know all the secret spots if you need a guide. i also have the Mannville indoor vintage flea market free boondocking over night stop by coffees on.
Stacy - You have to learn how to drive the RV! If something happens to Phil, you might need to drive! I know about most things on our RV, and I do know how to drive it, just in case. 😊
I have driven it a few times. We even have a video of me driving from one campground to the next. I can if I absolutely have to. I have done every task for the RV a few times. So I can fill in as needed. But it is not safe for me to drive. Even with a pillow and on the edge of my seat I am driving with my toes. When we hit a bump my foot bounces off the gas. That is the real reason I do not drive.
Oh no! Well, at least you can get to civilization in a pinch. You could get a block extension on your shoe 😀, for emergencies. I always think if there is an emergency situation, what would I do? You guys have good content. ❤️ watching your trials and adventures!
It is the Thule Easyfold XT. Be careful where you mount it. Thule says it is not for all vehicles. I have had ours for over 3 years and have not had any issues on either the RV or the Jeep.

A summary would have been good. Thanks for the idea.
We stayed at Bayley's Campground.
@@todayissomeday Nice place. One time we stayed just down the road at Wild Duck Adult Campground & RV Park. The only problem is in the early spring the trees drip sap all over the coach and toad.
We enjoy watching & learning! Thank you guys for the great information. GO ARMY!
Hey, you just missed us.
We just spent 6 days in Kennebunkport
Did a bike ride on the Eastern Trail in Portland and in Kennebunkport on this trip.
Hello guys
Just found your channel I'm really loving it especially the Canada trip I'm a Canadian in the UK for 55 years and Canada is still the place where my heart is I also rv in the UK we call it motorhome here what you have would never get around most places especially Cornwall
I love the fact you show the human side of things like forgetting the step things that we all do and reality of traveling in a motorhome / RV each video I've I watched has been first class engagement and educational
Sending kind regards
Haley
Thanks for the kind words.
Wife relies on Trip Wizard for planning. I've tried the maintenance section 4 times but can not figure it out. Guess I'm making it too difficult.
Great video as always. Thanks for sharing and keeping us entertained.
Glad you enjoyed it
We just purchased a Class A and are gonna try the travel life for a second time.
Have fun!!!!
I'm with ya Phil a nice well done burger. I don't eat bottom feeders😂
I pull a fifth wheel it takes me about 1hr to break camp and hook up.
This is 1 of your best YTs ever.❤
Great job‼
Wow, thank you!
Why don't travelers stop and take in New Brunswick? Such an amazing province.
We do.
In November of 1981 I left the CG with ten Active and left Governor's island and drove up to Old Town Maine to join my lovely wife Becky.
You should try steamed clams its a treat, make sure you stop in Wells
Oh my gosh, we just came from Arizona all the way to Maine and now back in Arizona.. did you try the whoopie pies?
Yes!! I could get in trouble with them! LOL
Thats a good mantra to have.
Great video, enjoyed the longer format. I don’t know if content creators follow other content creators but Kevin from Paving New Paths did a video on troubleshooting his Fantastic Fan very recently - might help Phil with yours? Continued safe travels!!
Thanks for the info!
@@todayissomeday you’re welcome! the video is titled “believing etrailer will cost you double…”
You guys are great! I am not able to live your style but it looks like fun. I might get you a shirt that says We do this so you don’t have to! Lol Happy trails❤
That would be cool!
Great Video. Your expertise is spot on for anyone considering full timing. Thank you so much. Safe travels always. We will be watching and learning.
Glad it was helpful!
Question: how does it feel in living in your rv during a windy rain storm ? Does your rv sway back and forth ?
If the storm is bad enough we may feel it some but our stabilizer jacks do a good job preventing most of that.
Boatswain mate in the Navy, wow! I was boatswain mate in Coast Guard and RV friend was Chief boatswain mate in Coast Guard.
I earned my stripes in Deck Department on an aircraft carrier.
@@todayissomeday I earned my stripes on Cutters and Smallboat Stations. I was Station near Portland and patrolled kennebunkport.
Another great video.
And glad to see that grandson is being raised right. Gig Em Aggies!
Us too!
Gargle with Warm salted water .for Sore Throat & Colds.
great video - love this "what buttons not to push" 😂
We stayed at that brewery in July of 2021. What a great stop and great pizza.
Agreed 100%!
We are retired and love long term RVing in our Jayco NP 310 RLTS.
We own our house and enjoy getting home and recharging and schedule our next 30-40 days out,
Sounds like a perfect balance for you guys.
Great tips.
Nice try on the wind sock Phil. Army still came out in front.😉
A very interesting and informative video. A good balance of sightseeing tips and things people fulltiming must be able to do.
Where do u leave your firearm, Ammo before entering Canada? Just curious 🤔
There are a lot of options: friends, family, rent a storage unit near the border.
We just realized you were a few sites down from us in Pleasant Hill Campground. We had the same issue with the utilities for a couple of days. We just switched to solar. So close to getting to meet you in person, lol.
Dang. Next time!
YAY!!!
Yes, they were right in front of us. As a matter of fact we pulled into the same boondockers welcome a day later!
I'm with you Phil, give me a burger or steak any day. Even though I grew up and live in Maine, I despise seafood. 😅
We love your channel and have been watching you for years. You give us inspiration and encouragement while we wait our 5 years until we go FT! How much time did you take you to prepare to hit the road full time? (including research, purging, selling the house etc)
A ton of time researching! We have a few of our first videos that talk about how we went through it.
We have never encountered roads this bad in western Canada or anywhere in the USA.
buy f250 hybred ekrríç
That water tap line should not have been plastic it should have been the freeze proof tap on a metal line connected to the pole and the water tap should be at least 20 feet away cause water and electrical not a smart idea
There are so many places to go in Texas that I hadn't considered Maine. Looks like it might be worth the drive if we want to point the RV NE instead of NW. Thanks for showing us the great possibilities. I'll behave and not ask if they have jalapeno flavored ones if we go up there.
LOL
Nothing like a lobster roll from New England! I get mine in MA!
Phil, could you kindly tell me the name of your sunglasses in this video? I can see they Oakley, but I can’t identify the style.
Thanks!!
They are prescription as well: www.oakley.com/en-us/product/W0OO4142?variant=888392489166
Thank you so much!
Hey Stacey, I have the same hearing aids you have!
I use the KOA app for trip planning -it is a great app and wonderful for trip planning-We love KOA ❤🚌🎉⭐️
I didn't know they had that.
Hope you can make it too Meat Cove when you go to Nova Scotia. The Hut has some yummy clam chowder!!
I hope so too!
I love you guys!!
Thanks so much! You are so sweet.
We originally had a Potato Donut shop in San Luis Obispo, California. But, now our local Donut Shop is called SLODOCO!
Are you guys headed to alberta ? im from canmore and know all the secret spots if you need a guide.
i also have the Mannville indoor vintage flea market free boondocking over night stop by coffees on.
Not this trip.
Welcome to Maine! ❤
Are you guys up in Maine still? We are outside of Rockland waiting for the Lobster Festival.
No. We are in Canada.
The crescent wrench is called a spud wrench and is a staple of Iron workers. Damage Controlman isn’t that a rate?
It is a rate!! Some of the most hard working folks on a ship!
Great video!
Hope to see you in Newfoundland! We’re here now.
18:38 ... hahaha... Don't worry, someone probably already changed it back to the right position! Haha.. Go Army!!
😂😂😂
@todayissomeday Looked like it was already heading that way anyway! Hahaha 😜
Ooo Pumpernickel Bread I Love
I need to know what bike rack that it is that fits your Lectric bikes, I have had bad luck in finding one.
It is the Thule Easyfold XT. Be careful where you mount it. Thule says it is not for all vehicles. I have had ours for over 3 years and have not had any issues on either the RV or the Jeep.
@@todayissomeday Thank you for your reply, we love the bikes just want a better way to transport them
Very informative video. Scary though. I am a new class C owner, 71 yo, recent widow after 40+ years so traveling solo. Yikes!
You can do it!
