You're not a Genre based guy, or some session grade player, or trying to be special in any flashy, trendy, niche way. You're just like, my friend's dad at the end of the cul-de-sac. Including your instrument choices if I may. I say this as a long-haired metal head. But I've been watching for a while now, and you've absolutely been a good influence. I just like who you are and how you go about things.
The dad at the end of my cul-de-sac definitly doesn’t have a Tone King
@@mantashaft yeah, he's not always playing a PRS through an EQD pedal either.
Ryan is the control variable. And thank gawd!
I like that, thank you.
@@60CycleHumcast 100K couldn't happen to a better dude. Onward and upward. 60 Cycle Humble.
The 2 Princetons joke wouldnt hit the same if you didn't consistently find your own joke so funny. I appreciate that more than the joke itself.
Plz keep making yourself laugh & keep being rad.
You said it perfectly. The pedal let's whatever guitar you use shine in it's natural flavor. When I get this one it will be my 18th EDQ pedal.
Woah. That's a statement. Which one would you say is your favorite?
@@_Ike the Hizumitas is just so heavy sounding. But I also use it with a Speaker Cranker and Arrows. It just adds a great punch to the fuzz/distortion
@@todds.6012 Nice. Do you have the erupter by chance? I have that one, and I've considered going for a hizumitas, but haven't pulled the trigger yet. Glad to see the cranker has been well utilized!
That jag with the special cranker is *chef's kiss* 🤌
This is my favorite new pedal. Sounds so thick and warm. Germanium is my 100% go-to and never quite max out more. There are so many amazing tones out of this little beast.
I think what has happened is that all the boutique builders saw how big Cuvave and Amazon Basics pedals got, and realized that there was a huge market for quality, low-cost pedals. But most of the inexpensive pedals are clones, or the original thing that got cloned, like Rats and Big Muffs and Tube Screamers.
Even boutique builders, when they had less-expensive pedals, they were always clones or way stripped down, like the EQD Plumes which is a Tube Screamer and the EQD Acapulco Gold which literally has a volume knob and nothing else.
Then JHS hit the market with their 3 Series, which are high quality and unique/rare/ultra modified circuits and they exploded. Everyone talks about how the 3 Fuzz is one of the greatest fuzzes ever, and now it seems like all the boutique builders saw JHS and went, Dang. People love the 3 series. Inexpensive, exciting, USA built pedals are what everyone wants apparently. So now we have EQD coming in and meeting JHS on their own turf, with an inexpensive, new, exciting, and great sounding and fully-featured pedal.
It had me at "more" because it's a bias knob. Anything that lets me torture transistors with voltage is automatically a lot of fun.
Stay safe and peace.
Awesome demo! You sold it to me in the first 5 minutes. This is the type of drive pedal I've been looking for and could never find. I don't own any drive pedals until this one arrives because most drive pedal demos turn me off to them. Great job on the video and keep them coming. I think we all would have watched to the end if you had gone through all of you amps!!
I bought one of these two days ago and I love it. It's also amazing on bass. You're right that, on the lower-gain settings, it really retains a lot of the clean characteristics of your tone. I've tried it so far on a Strat and a P+J bass. Amazing on both.
I kinda love your "arsenal" now. The amps, the guitars, the bass and baritone. It's all very Ryan. The last few years I've been going on a journey of refining and retooling my sound and I think in part it was influenced by your channel and also getting older and getting better jobs and more spending money.
Bought this, now my pedal chain starts with Plumes and Special Cranker aside pedals that cost 2-4x each. Very present and ‘forward’ sounding, impressed…
This is by far one of the very best pedals I’ve ever used. I use it before a Halberd set on clean and jangly and it’s incredible.
Was not sold on this until you tried it with some humbuckers. Love it!
DEFINITELY getting one of these! Great demo as always, Ryan!
I just got me this pedal, and you did a great job of demo, and I’ve been wanting a revstar
The tone is centered at 3:00, per the instruction manual. I’ve learned to read EQD manuals. They give some great insight on the circuits. Great setup, great sound, cool dude.. Cheers
OMG...a new EQD pedal?!? I love EQD Pedals! Thanks fire giving me GAS again, Ryan! 😎🤘🎸😲🐦
woah i don't think i've ever appreciated the low end of that silver sky until watching this. that thing growls
its got a great sound, I love the way it feels too.
The manual-reading was PERFECT
I think I need this pedal. If only because I like the orange and yellow color. As an added bonus, Sounds good too.
It has a nice growl. I dig it.
I have a Speaker Cranker - a great ‘transparent’ pedal. This one has more options. Nice!
I love silicon settings too over germanium. So I bought two, don’t know why but maybe I’ll do a Ge and Si in my set up. Anyway $99 I could afford 2. Went with the blue versions. Stoked to hear it with my rig. Around the 6:30 is the sound!
I bought this pedal on a whim last year. The sound was surprising. If I keep it on the germanium side with the volume up and the gain down, I got a Vox like chimey sound. I’ve been wanting to get that sound without having to buy a Vox amp. The silicone side with the gain about 3 o’clock is just Raw Over-Stortion goodness.
That's interesting! I thought there was a problem with the more pot on my Special Cranker because it made noise when I turned it. Apparently that's just the way it works since yours does it too. :P I have no idea why it does that but apparently it is a feature and not a bug. I like that pedal for the same reason you do. You get to hear your amp and guitar. That's really nice on a guitar with coil tapping, imo. The germanium/silicon switch is good for a coil tapping guitar, too.
Real talk.If you're using a good tube amp, I've found that many drives take away more critical content than they add. This was designed with the idea of making inexpensive transistor amps sound more tube like, and I think it succeeds at that, in the same way the Plumes works to make small tube combos function more efficiently .
I'm picky about Drives, and before the Hudson Broadcast was released, relied on Ge Fuzz, and occasionally the BD2, or straight up boosts like the Micro Amp/250, to do the clipping.
Such choices are determined by amps and speaker cabs, but this style of circuit is always a good start.
Ryan's Princeton's are a fine foundation; maybe an ideal design, difficult to make sound bad because they are great by themselves.
Just got mine before I watched this video... funny how you played rumble. When I first started playing this pedal I played rumble as well lol
I see a lot of comments saying it darkens the tone.Im hearing super bright all around.Every vid I've watched.I mean I like it,and I have one on the way.Just weird how people hear things differently I guess is all I'm sayn.
I just love your collection of single coils. I want that PRS!!
He gets the craziness of the pedal game.and I LOVE earthquaker boxes .the Palisades might be my favorite dually pedal.super musical and yes I know about the protein drive but the palisades is just as good maybe more flexible. Try it.here goes another 100$
Thanks for sharing! Nice demo
“Thank you for not smearing my midrange.” If I had a dollar…
Need the pedal. Want the Yamaha. And a Princeton or two, but only if I can't get one of those 57 deluxe reissues.
nice pedal bro!
great detailed review as always!
I bought a Lovepedal "Invisible Man" boost, which is a dirty one-knob boost. But it is LOUD. With the knob at 7 or 8 o'clock it takes the volume of a Princeton from 3 to 6-7 easily. I can't imagine how loud it would be with both cranked, unless it just compressed and got muddy after a certain decibel level. But otherwise it sounds great and is less "dirty" than this pedal. You have to dig in to get the dirt.
I think you'd be interested in the EHX Hot Tubes- definitely not a conventional overdrive
I’ve always been curious
Great pedal, the maker is ocd in all the right ways. (I have the Underneath pedal) please tell me you're going to do a follow-up for that kit guitar that you were modifying. Also especially through the AFFORDABOARD
Needed your video of this blessed
I like all your video we have the same taste I like surf too. This pedal sounds good. Thanks !
Sweetwater has these Shure closed-back headphones on sale and I bought a pair. You should hear this thru THESE!
Two Princetons got a chuckle from me.
12 mins in and I just bought one. Orange + EQD dirt, how could I resist ? It's like the Bows and the Arrows in one saucy box.
Liked just for the 8 bit Two Princetons gag.
try it out on a solid state. its good.
Strange. Mine is 100% clean on the lowest 'more' setting. I use it as a clean boost all the time.
Did you like the Plumes?
I got the plumes last month and it is tied with the bad monkey as my favorite overdrive. Super versatile, plays well with all my guitars' pickups, cleans up with volume knob, dirties up when you dig into the strings like a natural tube amp. Gets a good swampy 1970s classic rock sound. I use it with a strat and the first song I played on it was Foghat Slow Ride and it sounded SPOT ON like the record
@@HenrySchecker LOL Hated it, went back the next day, thank you GC
The plumes is fine, im generally not a TS style od lover though so its a little lost on me.
That thing is The Shit, and it looks like a flaming Matchbox car. Sweetsville.
Gives me a bit of that JHS Crayon vibe. But a really nice Grit Machine that will fuzz out.
this could well be the first EQD pedal I buy (or perhaps the Afterneath...)
Get both.
@@lolobuggah2670 not everyone has the money to do that
@@matthewpollard2843 then you have to decide what your priority is. Ambient reverb for dreamy sounds or a really great sounding overdrive.
Hey Ryan, did you crank it up?
will there be an episode featuring Mike Adams? that would be sweet, you guys are two of my favorites!
Great content
Will be getting this I love all things germanium and this is a bargain.
the jaguar is fenders best design IMO
I play mine way more then any other guitar. Love it so much.
Did you play the Trigger Happy TV theme song on purpose or on accident at 14:35 ?
Question for you guys out there? Does this pedal get a long with well with fender or Marshall style circuits or both?
I get a very similar effect boosting a cheap Klone clone into the Nux Solid Studio. I think what you're loving here is the sound of a boosted amp.
having trouble finding someone on youtube that used this pedal with a Marshall. Good video here nonetheless. I want to know how this pedal in Ge mode compares to the You Dirty Rat with a Marshall. Cheers, thank you.
That is a very specific comparison.
@@60CycleHumcast we, Marshall players, have very specific problems :D
100k coming up!!!!
Where are the baritone and bass demos with it???
I was so preoccupied with different amps and pickups it didn’t occur to me. I let everyone down.
@@60CycleHumcast i don't think you let everyone down haha was just surprised since you been including them on some of your other recent reviews.
14:35 Elastica!
FINALLY SOMEONE RECOGNIZED IT! thankyou.
I was lucky enough to see them live in a small club during that tour. It was unforgettable. Very underrated band.
Also: Wire - "Three Girl Rhumba"
23:50, 24:10, 24:45 25:10, 29:45, 30:04 31:43
That pedal description sounds like a dating app.
Smeared my midrange recently in a custom pedal build. Let me tell you.. it's not fun
what about p-90s
what about filtertrons, what about lipsticks, what about jazzmaster pickups, what about telecaster pickups, what about bass pickups, what about acoustic pickups, what about a microphone, what about a keyboard.... There are a lot of possibilities and im not able to cover them all. Im sure it would sound great with p-90s though.
I just wanna sound like led zeppelin live, hopefully this gets me there
when is the imperial getting a theme
Any suggestions?
@@60CycleHumcast how about a chiptunes version of the "material girl" hook since material sounds like imperial and it's same era as spin doctors
@@alanturingandthetapes5575 hmmmmmm, it does rhyme, and rhyming is funny.
@@alanturingandthetapes5575 are those songs really from the same era though? 84 & 91 are not the same musical era in my mind.
@@60CycleHumcast if you squint
Sounds like it turns the single coils to p90’s
What, no baritone? Unsubbed.
Per that description Ryan read... It's a Tube Screamer.. Hmmm.
Cheers...
JAFOD.
I don't get it. It sounds like the lamest overdrive pedal.
What’s an OD you like?
Sounds like a really dry sore throat :/
Uhh... I thought this was a fishing channel? What is going on...why are you playing guitars and testing pedals what about the catfish & bass? As far as a guitar pedal demo awesome as far as the fishing channel clickbait "no good" just no good!
'Only' $99? Have a look at Mooer, Donner, Joyo, plenty of under $60 devices. I recently bought EQD Plumes and was very unimpressed, couldn't match the hype.
Those brands you mention are not in the same league of quality as EQD. Those are mostly Chinese clones which are cheaply made. I like them but EQD is a different class of pedal.
@@lolobuggah2670 I'm well aware of that, but am not fooled by boutique marketing, which is why I mentioned the Plumes. Definitely a case of hype over reality. YMMV
