    Guys - how about a quadrant diagram. Each mixture of low-high and current vs voltage. Put some example headphones in each box. Create one of these diagrams for three price tiers

    I used a OG 1266 on my iPhone for several months before I got a XIaudio Broadway with a schitt bifrost dac.
    And let me tell you the difference in the two is OUT OF THIS WORLD!

    This is a great video, very helpful and nice that you covered the standard ways to determine the performance of an amp. One thing I don't think I heard you guys mention is output impedance of the amplifier. I like this to be under 1 ohm but this usually isn't a problem unless I'm using very sensitive IEMs or headphones. However it's nice to know that I can plug something into an amp and not worry about the performance or resulting sound as the output impedance is sufficiently low.

    Yeah I got tired of asking so I just bought a Woo Audio WA33 Elite I’m sure there’s a switch on there to make my morning toast.

    I didn’t know about the Formula S being too powerful for efficient headphones like the Focal Stellia and Audeze LCD-MX4 until I plugged them in and heard the loud buzzing with the volume knob turned all the way down 🤣 Lesson learned (edit: Turns out it WAS a ground loop that my more power-demanding headphones didn’t pick up!)

    • @ABYSSHeadphones
      @ABYSSHeadphones  3 роки тому +7

      That may be a ground loop hum. Try disconnecting the interconnects from the amp to see if the hum goes away.

      @CK9C 3 роки тому +1

      @@ABYSSHeadphones 😳 I hadn’t considered that since it was plugged into the same outlet as my rack of sources. Once I plugged it into the power conditioner that my rack is running from the humming stopped. Learning a lot today!
      So I assume the more sensitive Focal and Audeze cans picked up the ground loop but my more power demanding sets like the 1266, Diana V2 and HEDDphone didn’t because of the discrepancies of the power demand?

    • @ABYSSHeadphones
      @ABYSSHeadphones  3 роки тому +5

      @@CK9C The ground loop hum was relatively low in level. As the sensitivity of the headphone increases, that same constant level of noise (in this case hum) plays louder. The 1266 being quite low in sensitivity requires a lot higher signal level to be audible, simply put it’s less sensitive to low level noise, but requires more gain (and power) to drive to the same level as higher sensitivity headphones.

    Would I be mad trying to drive a Diana off of a relatively cheap stack, as I have a Topping D50s and A50s combo at the mo?

    I chose the burson soloist 3x performance for my hifiman he6se ( it measures 15 watt on the balanced output). I am using the questyle cma 12 master as a preamp .

    Voltage is directly proportional with power. - High school physics

    • @dkomanek
      @dkomanek 3 роки тому

      Not really. P = U^2/R, because with higher voltage you get higher current into the same resistance and power increases with both voltage and current. So power is not directly proportional to voltage but square of voltage divided by impedance. Also amplifiers aren't perfect and voltage will change with impedance.
