Released by Bobby Vinton when I was 20 in 1962. One of my favorites. Note that Angelina, like other female cover artists of this classic, changed the lyrics (not the title) to "Miss" Lonely. Her cover is an absolutely beautiful rendition of this classic, and her transitions (from chest voice to falsetto), and vice versa, are seamless and fabulous, as is everything this future legend does. The Forsvarets Stabsmusikkorps are a Norwegian military band that often accompanies Angelina at concerts. You've seen them before, I'm sure. This album is recorded on their label.Thanks Eddie!

The military band you are referring to is The Staff Band of the Norwegian Armed Forces. This video was from a live concert they performed, on June 16, 2018 in Oslo, Norway. It was a scheduled event to commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Armed Forces Music Division, and to debut the songs of their first joint album, “It’s Magic.” Angelina was 12 then, but she was just 11 when they actually recorded it, in Nov/Dec of 2017.
The concert was an outdoor event, but this album was recorded in the studio, it’s been almost 2 years since its release and it has been as high as #1 or #2 on the iTunes top 200 jazz albums just in the last month, and there are at least 5 of the singles on this album that are on the top 200 jazz singles chart along with at least 3 others that Angelina has done including 2 versions of “Fly me to the Moon” and her 9 year old “I put a spell on you”.
"Mr. Lonely" is a song co-written and recorded by American singer Bobby Vinton. The song was first released on his 1962 album "Roses Are Red". In 1964, with the release of his "Greatest Hits" album and America's involvement in Nam, it rose to #1 on the pop chart. It was the last of four #1 hits for Bobby. I'm not sure how many times it's been covered, but Angelina's version is the best I have ever heard, including the original. Basically, it's pure perfection. For me, it's a top 10 favorite Angelina performance. And that's saying something, considering how many fantastic performances she has. Always good to see and hear your reaction to Angelina. I meant to add in my previous post a comment about the "truth" in these lyrics. In 1963 I was a "lonely soldier" along with 50,000 others in South Korea. It's amazing how true these lyrics are. We had no communication with the outside world other than mail, which we absolutely lived for. That letter, care package, or anything from home was the most valuable "gift" one could receive. No telephone communication, no TV, we did have Armed Forces Radio. I was on duty the night in Nov. '63 (early morning in Korea) that the Armed Forces Network crackled to life reporting JFK had been assassinated. It then went dead. Shortly thereafter, we were rushed to our "alert positions" awaiting a possible invasion of the South. No one knew what to expect, and I doubt that instant communications back to America was the best back then. It was a weird time. In any case I remember Bobby Vinton, and of course this song very, very well. There were a lot of lonely soldiers in Korea, as well as in Vietnam. I love Angelina's version, and again Eddie, thanks as always for you in depth reactions to her stunning performances.

Your reaction is apropos to the young Israeli women who have to devote time to being a soldier...as I remember Bobby Vinton in the early 60's when I was that soldier in the far east and what this song meant to me. Perhaps it is the other way round, as Angelina "is music". Any song is the perfect match it seems. Her diversity performing at "that level" is unmatched already at the age of 14, and bear in mind that much of her stuff, are easy made productions and not studio quality, enhanced and album ready works. I think the band is a military band but it's not a military festival or something like that. Her album It's Magic where Mr. Lonely is one of the track is a collaboration between Angelina and the Norwegian Armed Forces music band. And I think it's one of their tour.
