What a great video. You're obviously a guy who doesn't take himself too seriously & have never said that your way is the only way to wax a tache, it's just how you do it, so don't pay any attention to the negative comments (they're usually written by unhappy people). Keep up the good work & rock that tache! (I wish mine were that thick).
WOW you use a lot!! I just use a pea-size blob and rub it between my thumb and fore-finger, then stroke that into my 'stache. One pea-blob per side. I find that to be plenty, and a tube lasts quite awhile that way. I don't use that comb, I have a couple others that I use to keep the hairs "in-line" and help train the hairs.
Another thing that I've found with my stache and Clubman wax is that if you run your sink full of hot water and put the tube into it to warm up for about 30 seconds. The wax goes on far easier and more evenly. Also, I had the problem with the Neutral being too white. So I use primarily Neutral wax (around 2/3) and a bit (1/3) Brown wax. It tones down the white quite a lot.
There are many different types of mustache wax. Some hold out throughout the day in a desert, while others melt during a warm breeze. The one the man in the video is using is called "Clubman", it has a light medium hold to it from my experiences. If you want a real strong hold, may I suggest Cowboy Comb Official Mustache Wax. However it is hard to apply because it's so stiff. Holding a hair dryer to it will make it more malleable.
I have been using Clubman for years. That color is natural. Its what I use, cause my stash is blonde, they also have black and brown. I never read the instructions. I put it on my fingers, and mix it in all over, then use comb to shape it, and the brush to smooth it out. After watching this video I think I will follow instructions cause I dont think I put enough wax on. Thanks for the video.
That is a solid moustache/head of hair, sir! I found that wax at Fred Meyer (if youre on the west coast). I am unable to grow ANY kind of significant facial hair except moustache/goatee. My moustache isnt the thickest but it does curl perfectly nice on its own. You win some, you lose some :)
I'd say the clubman holds about 4-6 hours. It starts to droop in about 10 min even without touching it so don't be afraid to really twist it up when you do it because it will look more natural shortly.
Best part at 6:00 "There you go! That's it! That's how I wax my mustache," followed by a quiet stare, and a nod of approval. At first I thought he was being silly and said, "That's how I likes my mustache." I like to pretend "wax" and "like" are the same word, because waxing is so much fun. Especially when it's beeswax.
I gave up on waxing my stache a long time ago. Whenever I'd drink a hot drink, (coffee, tea, etc.), the wax would melt off, and my stache would look worse that it did before. Now I just go for the scraggly look. I've grown to like it.
Only occasionally if it seems really scraggly, like hairs are going in every direction, I'll put some regular hair gel in the beard and comb it through. I'm not sure that it helps all day but it seems like it helps a little when I'm doing it. I'm sure wax or something else would control it better, but I prefer to keep my beard softer rather than as hard as the mustache wax gets.
I've never even heard of this stuff. I used the Clubman brand you mentioned.... without much luck. I'll have to look online for the Cowboy Comb type. Thanks for the tip.
I have a question, How long does the wax usually last? I'm at school for 12 hours, so I need something that lasts, or now that I think about it, I could just bring it with me.
I've a question, does the color of the wax make a mustache look differently, i mean , any actual color change of a mustache? i've seen many colors of the wax on the market, and many of them are black, brown, or neutral .
yes, the white fades, or at least is not noticeable once you thoroughly comb it through. I don't know how long you waited before washing it out. You might try using a little less, or combing it through more, or wait longer to see if it fades more.
Hard to say for sure because I started from a shorter trimmed beard. I think it was 3 to 4 months after letting it grow from the short beard, so I'd say 4 to 5 months total.
Are there any alternatives to moustache wax? Does hair wax work the same? I ask 'cause there aren't any shops that have it in SE Asia.. I guess cause not a whole lotta folks can grow a proper one down here.
Clubman is OK, but I'd try Firehouse or Oregon Wild Hair for a softer, beeswax/petroleum jelly based wax. Clubman will turn your hair into fried, hard mess. I only use it for tight curls, not through the middle of the stache.
do you have to have mustache wax or can you use pomade and products like that? i heard about this one mustache wax called firehouse mustache wax, is that better than club man? or are the similar any advice you can offer i would appreciate thanks.
Is it me or is there a bunch of white Clubman wax gooped up in the middle of your 'stache? That's a problem I have with that particular wax... I've just tried Hndlebars and it definitely is a lot better...
so the color you are using is neutral white? does the whiteness fade after a while? i tried it and it was very white on my stache, and mine is not as dark as yours. so i washed it off because i didnt want white stuff showing all over my stache. do reply. thank you
@MattandHaileigh Try Nioxin shampoo, it's for your hair but it actually does thicken your hair. It won't make more hair grow but it thickens the hair that you do have.
Dude...that's hilarious. I started letting my mustache and beard grow about a month and half ago, originally to shoot some vintage cowboy looking pictures, to have that scruffy look. But now...it's actually getting longer, where it feels like my child is growing up. haha And I'm starting to like it and debating on letting it grow long enough to form a handlebar stache. I feel like a freak and laugh every time I see myself in the mirror. But it's awesome.
i used to trim my moustache, because i hated when the hhairs got into my mouth. i think i will let it grow out and get a shape into a handelbar moustache.
I had always used wax on my 'stache, but it would droop pretty quickly no matter how much I used. So, I bought Got2B glued, instead. It's a little hard to wash out at the end of the day, but it holds like a champ, which helps because of all the ladies that maul me wanting to touch it every day. ;)
I find that using my fingers works a bit better to apply the wax. Just rub some on your index and middle fingers, then rub the wax into the mustache with downward motions. That's just me, though. The little comb thing feels weird to me.
I had always heard about waxing one's mustache but I had never seen a gentleman actually waxing his, even though I grew a "Scottish Terrier" one myself some years ago. I guess less wax would make it look less sticky? Thanks for posting nevertheless!
I'd be happy to hear, more specifically, what things your niece is doing differently than I am and what I can do to improve and do it more like her. Thanks!
i'm not sure this brand, Clubman, ever completely disappears, or maybe I just used a little too much, but the color should be mostly or all gone within a few minutes. I was probably able to use a tube a couple dozen times. There are lots of other brands that people have recommended in the comments though. Good luck with yours!
i don't have my beard and mustache this long all the time. when I do, I get the occasional complement from a stranger. But friends and family who haven't seen me in a couple months and then see me with new growth are always shocked, which is fun. I also don't make the handlebar every day. Thanks for comments, good luck with yours!
Well, I can't say because I haven't looked for a new job in a long time. I don't have my beard this long all the time though. I maintain a shorter beard regularly, then it only takes me a couple months to let it grow into long mode. This is what I call my "winter beard".
You can eat and drink with the wax in, just be careful. As much as possible, try not to let any food or drink touch your mustache. Liquids especially will dissolve some of the wax.
God doesn't need a dam, he can walk on water. And why watch the video about how to wax a mustache if you hate facial hair? Some people's children... Great video, thanks!
What a great video. I think this is the best mustache video I have seen, thanks
The last man on earth

Many thanks Eric, Ihave grown a handlebar, but ihave had problems with applying the wax. Iwill try your method.

Zach Galifianakis?

Have you ever used firehouse brand wax? Clubman didn't work for me. My whiskers are wirey, where yours looks fine.
I have a question, How long does the wax usually last? I'm at school for 12 hours, so I need something that lasts, or now that I think about it, I could just bring it with me.

You have a really cool stash, just use different wax. Firehouse or something from the beard baron. Good job either way!
Much appreciated advice! I was always wondering how to curl it up at the ends without twisting it too much.
in canada i tried walmart.. i tried shoppers drug mart.. i cant find that stuff.. i will keep looking

@countingmoons lucky tiger or Firehouse Moustache Wax!!!! is the brands to get. Clubman wax is to tacky and does not feel good in my mustache.
he he he, nice. How long did it take to grow your mustache to such length?
@MattandHaileigh Try Nioxin shampoo, it's for your hair but it actually does thicken your hair. It won't make more hair grow but it thickens the hair that you do have.
A silly question, but does your beard/stache make it difficult to get a job? I ask out of pure curiosity, of course.
That's an epic stache. The facial hair gods have blessed you sir.
I think too much wax or maybe a different product.
Thanks Eric. I've been combing Ebay looking for the best wax. What I paid $22 for isn't doing the job I'd like.
im new to handlebar mustaches, i just started, and clubman is not strong enough, any suggestions?
Dude...that's hilarious. I started letting my mustache and beard grow about a month and half ago, originally to shoot some vintage cowboy looking pictures, to have that scruffy look. I haven't tried firehouse but a few other people have recommended it in comments
dude i want your whole moustace/beard thing!!! it is amazing
i used to trim my moustache, because i hated when the hhairs got into my mouth. i think i will let it grow out and get a shape into a handelbar moustache.
How long you grow that stache for?
Haha! I like the little self nod at the end! I approve!
Dark white?
i think you should trim the little guys in the middle... smooth out the length more with fingers... i always wondered about this hair style :)
are you from the hangover?
You have magnificent facial hair. Thank you for sharing.
I had always used wax on my 'stache, but it would droop pretty quickly no matter how much I used. So, I bought Got2B glued, instead.

oh, also, I roll the hair as I work the wax in. .. heck!! even just in general. I'm always rollin my stache. really helps it keep shape.
He speaks for the trees. Like the video
The stray hairs in my stash are driving me INSANE
I find that using my fingers works a bit better to apply the wax. Just rub some on your index and middle fingers, then rub the wax into the mustache with downward motions. That's just me, though. The little comb thing feels weird to me.

I do mine the same way turns out good
I'd be happy to hear, more specifically, what things your niece is doing differently than I am and what I can do to improve and do it more like her. Thanks!
ear wax
your face structure looks amazing, you would look great if you shaved or trimmed your beard down
i'm not sure this brand, Clubman, ever completely disappears, or maybe I just used a little too much, but the color should be mostly or all gone within a few minutes. I was probably able to use a tube a couple dozen times. There are lots of other brands that people have recommended in the comments though. Good luck with yours!
I don't think a pomade would be strong enough. Several people in the comments here have recommended firehouse though, so its definitely worth trying.
Thank You for posting this video. It has helped me greatly as I am a complete Newb to this.
i don't have my beard and mustache this long all the time. when I do, I get the occasional complement from a stranger. That's a cracking beard you have got. Inspires much envy.
thanks Eric i.appreciate your advice.

I bought a little tub of pomade to try. It looks good for about 5 minutes and then stops working.
Thanks for the pointers. My mustache is almost long enough now.
Er u norsk?
Super handsome Eric. I appreciate your advice.. have tried.. and look like your brother!
how long does it take to get the stache to be that long?
i didn't start from a clean shave, i started from a medium-trimmed mustache and beard, and let it go for 3 to 4 months from there.
Your style looks great....even without the wax.
thats majestic
You can eat and drink with the wax in, just be careful. As much as possible, try not to let any food or drink touch your mustache. Liquids especially will dissolve some of the wax.
I'm a 15 year old girl. Tell me why I just wasted 6 minutes and 13 seconds of my life watching this??
That's a mighty mustache you got there. You could some cool shit with it since it is damn straight, like a Fu Manchu for example.
I like the face he makes at the end
You remind me of the guy from the hangover.
Nice vid, too. Thanks.
You look like the lorax. Not an insult, bravo sir.
Did you really say 'Dark' white?
God doesn't need a dam, he can walk on water. And why watch the video about how to wax a mustache if you hate facial hair? Some people's children... Great video, thanks!
Beards will NEVER stop being awesome...never.
Great video
Use True Wax wax for true men. Use a blowdryer to moisten a bit before applying. Lasts all day (mostly)
You need to cut the centre to have a better look that would allow it to standout a lot more and trim the beard slightly too
You look sort of like Robert Redford as Jeremiah Johnson.
Ryan? Is that you?
Great video !!
Do you sing and play folk music? Cause you look like you do.
you're beard is beautiful
Thanks for the video.
How often do you get stopped by people who think you are Zach Galifianakis?
Wow, I let my beard grow out for Halloween and now I'm going through the exact same thing.
You sound like will forte
How do people respond to seeing you for the first time? lol
