Hey R0b ( great vids btw) . I think the problem you mentioned about connecting the gpd and it not being recognized is because you may have not connected it in "Flash Mode". At 12:02 you may want to put a note that you should press and hold "Vol+" only and connect usb, then release it. The power light will turn red and the Batch tool will pick it up. - not sure if anyone has mentioned it yet.
5:10 POIM!!! Thank you because ppl like you we learn each time we go on the internet! Thanks. And it´s unfortunatelly ppl don´t thanks for your efforts, so i do my part.
You get one more inscribed on your channel! May you post a video tutorial how to update GPD XD firmware and whats the new version or suitable version, GPD XD still obscure on the internet,
I just found one of these in a pawn shop yesterday for $75. Guess what I did to it this morning. I Just used the second method to get up and running again. Thank you.
Really good video Rob although I'm still stuck with the black screen of death. I get a message in green on the batch tool saying ********upgrade done successfailTime********* which to me looks like its worked but unfortunately it still doesn't come on. I wonder if the screen has blown. The only question is in the vid you mention it takes 30 minutes to run the upgrade but on my machine it takes about 1 minute. It runs a download, then a firmware check both to 100% but thats it. Is that normal/correct. Thanks
Hi, is there an updated video on how to reset the XD to out of the box settings? I did a factory reset and the files you have won't extract properly so I'm stuck with no games at all!
Thank you for putting up so many informative videos about the GPD XD. It made me purchase a 64gb red one which will arrive sometime in the future. I just subbed to your channel and I will be using your guides as a oops saver on my part. I can't wait to mod this, do you know by chance if some ROMs I have on my homebrewed wii will work with the GPD and would I need to place them in the directory after putting legacy on? Sorry for this question that I more than likely know the answer to but I have to ask.
Mine boots great but I wanted to reset mine to factory defaults and was told to use the data/factory reset option and then let it wipe the device data to restore it to factory defaults and then reboot. I am missing steps it seems each time I try this since this device is new to me and doing it the first time without experience or step by step guide on the right way to do it is messing me up but I think I will share my mistakes I made that I sort of found out from doing it so many times they just assume since you did it so many times you should know this stuff for others :D First off after I reset using my method since it's not bricked and needs no downloads for me , after my reset above I had to turn on location services for it as it pops up that question twice after a reset and I just pick yes for both. Make sure log in to wifi so it can contact the makers site. My device is the droidbox model which is basically the same as the GPD XD only droidbox covers support for it among other things. I believe I let it sit for an hour after the update as I want to make sure if droidbox has any updates for it that I wait that grace time to see if anything pops up and then after an hour I log in to the play store and wait for that to load the store and back up my settings which may take an hour if I remember right but I wait up to an hour and a half as after a reset the play store when first logging in will give you a white screen and seems like it is stuck on loading while it uploads the data to google since during the check in to the playstore you will get a choice to have your settings backed up and downloaded the next time you restore your device. The mistake I was constantly making with my trying to reset the device so dang much that sounds like most people may know that I think I was making until just now that I wanted to pass on was I kept forgetting to go in to my settings and tell my device to never sleep as after a reset it defaults to going to sleep after 5 minutes. When I was leaving the device alone for it to contact the makers site as well as logging in to the play store after each reset I was totally forgetting this step and it gave me all sorts of problems trying to do the reset and just wanted to remind folks to check that setting after a reset if you have to let your device sit and download updates from the maker or you log in the play store and have the store show all white and look like it's hung up on an update and it is really downloading a backup to restore or uploading a new back up like mine does due to that box being checked by default as that was giving me problems with sleep kicking in while doing that and it being stuck at the store after i checked it or gave me an error it could not load my google play services at one time or another and seems simple now I know where I made my mistake but I think I remember doing this once when I first got the device and they said I only had to do it once so I kind of forgot about that step until I digging through my settings after so many bad factory resets and finally figuring it out since I guess most people used to to this stuff just know to do that by default from having did it so many times or just remembering to do it from knowing their device so well. Hope this helps others in case they are skipping that step as well and having trouble and need to check that setting to see if it is the problem. Almost forgot to mention don't forget to remove the memory card too before doing this method if it's not bricked like mine as I forgot when I did it once and ended up having to pull out the memory card and reformat it to make it show up on my device as mounted if I remember right or some other problem popped up that now I remove it before a reset due to some problem I had.
It's a completely different platform. The Pocket you basically work with as a PC. Usually if you can get in the BIOS you can get the thing going again.

Hey, as for now, I cannot connect to the Internet. Is there a way to factory reset? I think the previous owner did a wonderful job at deleting everything, but, I wanna start fresh. Any tips?..
The menu i'm in at 5:15 contains a factory reset option -- you can see it if you full screen the video at that point. . I show how to get to it a minute or so before that
Retr0rob , It's the black one w keyboard and Xbox 360-like joypad buttons. I can only do so much and not having the Internet is slowing down my Emulation gameplay! Lol
Steven Ionar GPD has a set of drivers that may correct your WiFi issue. You can use Windows 10 Fresh Start to get the gpd win back to factory BUT you should download gpd's drivers before doing so.
Probably not, unless you are experiencing a noise coming from the XD -- apparently that was a thing with some earlier firmware versions. I generally do not flash unless I am addressing something specific.
+Retr0rob No problems at all, aside from when I use the mini hdmi to my 1080p tv, low taxing emulators (nes, SNES) stutter. I get like 15 fps. You have any issues with that?
TheRedRaven Yeah, we talked about it a little on the livestream today.... +Retr0rob dude. My GPD XD have a problem inside of it.......it's a broken wire! Do you know where to find the same wire inside of GPD XD? If you do. Please sent me a URL.
So I made a stupid mistake and tried to flash the update.img when the device was working perfectly fine. Now I have a problem where my GPD XD boots to the android system recovery but won't recognize the update.img off of the external memory. When I follow your video up to that point it just bring me to nothing but (../). I even went and downloaded all the files in the description to see if I had a corrupted update file. I don't know what to do, and I'm extremely frustrated. It seems like my problem is in the in between both the soft and hard bricks.
Nvm, this has been resolved after following these steps. 1. Download 3.4.0 of the GPD XD Firmware, once downloaded extract the content into a folder 2. Inside that folder extract the DriverAssistant_v4.2 archive and then run the DriveInstall application 3. Select Install Driver and wait patiently for it to install, it does take several minutes, once down select OK to the successful install prompt 4. Return back to the previous folder and extract the AndroidTool V2.35 English archive 5. Inside that folder run the AndroidTool application then select the Upgrade Firmware tab 6. Select the Firmware button and browse to the update.img inside the previously extracted 3.4.0 GPD XD Firmware folder 7. Power on the GPD XD normally and wait for it to reach the furthest point it will reach (in my case the GPD logo at 90 degrees) 8. Plug in the USB cable and wait for the AndroidTool to show 1 ADB Device Found 9. Hit the Switch button in the AndroidTool, the GPD XD will reboot and the screen goes black (almost like it's switched off), the log shown in the right hand pane of the AndroidTool will show Test Device Start followed by Test Device Success (the GPD XD remains like it is still switched off, but it actually isn't) 10. After a few moments the AndroidTool will show 1 Loader Device Found, at which point select Upgrade button in the AndroidTool 11. The GPD XD will run though a process that takes several minutes (it also shows the green Android logo in the background) 12. Once completed the AndroidTool will show the last log entry Reset Device Success and will reboot the GPD XD, after several more moments it will fully boot as normal - GREAT SUCCESS!!! But will lock up as soon as I disconnect the usb. I'm using all of your files.
Instead of connecting to your PC, drop the unzipped update on the micro SD card and hold power and volume up when you power it on. Try running update from the pre-boot environment.

Rap Pan You will have to do some work to get it to do that: All of the App stores included download to internal SD, and the option to move them is not present in the stock image. That said you certainly can configure your Emulators to go to the SD card and depending on what you are runing that can be a good use of the space
One last last thing! Can I save the games I download in emulators in the home screen or whatever that is called? or do I need to open the emulators first before I can play games? sorry for lot of questions. Thankyou so mmuch!
I totally mis-wrote that. Does the XD see other files that are sitting on the card? If not you will want to format it (after getting the old stuff off first). Also check the .img file: Some of these come .zip or .rar. You will need to unzip (or rar) those first. Finally, sometimes the .img is named something other than update.img, if it is named something else switch it to that.
Excellent video, as always. Any idea how to repair a GPD XD that your girlfriend 'definitely did not drop on the floor' (read: she did, I heard it bounce)? Cosmetically it's fine, but it wouldn't charge and turned itself off after a minute or so (even after it had completely powered up to the UI. I tried flashing my firmware (fnarr fnarr), both Legacy and 'official' but that didn't help matters. Oddly enough, when I powered up to Android recovery mode, the machine stayed on for the duration. Now, the battery is dead and it won't charge. When I turned it on, the power light was green, the quickly changed to red, then off completely while it powered up. Don't know what it meant. Apart from it's broken. Luckily, she also owned an XD, and the 64gb version no less, so I've confiscated that for the time being but I really would like ol' bluey back.
Since it's dead anyway you could open it up and see if there is anything obvious: popped off components, etc. check around the charging port especially. If you have an SD card installed pull it out and see if the device works OK without it.
I turned mine off & plugged it in to charge while I got ready for work, when I finished getting ready I saw the light was green (which was weird since it had only been about 15 mins), I unplugged it & tried turning it on, & nothing, no light, & nothing on the screen, please help, I've only had mine less than a week 😔😭😭😭😭
While unplugged try pressing and holding the power button for about 20 seconds. Then hit the power button again. I had that happen once right when I first got mine. BTW if you are using a universal charger try using the one that came with it, I have had crappy luck with universals.
It's when through an update or other firmware action you render an electronic device unusable. So say you are running an android update on your phone and the battery fails right in the middle so the update does not complete, If the device cannot be recovered it is considered "bricked".
Hey R0b ( great vids btw) . I think the problem you mentioned about connecting the gpd and it not being recognized is because you may have not connected it in "Flash Mode". Mixed bag: It's possible and some emulators even have an option to do this automatically. I will look into this more -- It may be good video fodder.
#Retr0rob hey for some reason my device can not read the SD Card but i putted the Image File on it ?
Just the image file or anything you put on it?
Well there are some Movies on that SD Card do i have to delete them ?
I totally mis-wrote that. Does the XD see other files that are sitting on the card? If not you will want to format it (after getting the old stuff off first). Also check the .img file: Some of these come .zip or .rar. You will need to unzip (or rar) those first. Finally, sometimes the .img is named something other than update.img, if it is named something else switch it to that.
It cant see any files for some reason
if you have another sd can it see those? Also if you are on windows make sure the SD is not formatted NTFS: It must be FAT for the XD to recognize it.
I thought the title said gdp and then XD as in the emoticon
modded 6 psps that did not brick ...but... the other 2....
Isn't that how it goes?
Mine died today. It won't turn on and the charging LED doesn't turn on when I put it in charger. RIP GPD.
That's sad. How long did you have it for?
Retr0rob since 24/08/2017. Less than a year. I don't recommend this gadget. :-)
I'm on the same boat, don't know what to do with it :/
Have you tried a different charger and cable? My cable crapped out eons ago.
Retr0rob thanks for the reply, just got off from work (graveyard shift), heading home, I'll let you know what happens.
What is bricking
It's when through an update or other firmware action you render an electronic device unusable. So say you are running an android update on your phone and the battery fails right in the middle so the update does not complete, If the device cannot be recovered it is considered "bricked".
it's root not rut
It's spelled rute not root :P
lol
