    --------
I P*nched An Autistic Kid After He Gr*ped Me And Now Everyone Hates Me. Am I The Jerk?
    --------
The story revolves around a teenage girl's troubling experiences with a peer named Troy, who has autism. Despite their long acquaintance since nursery, Troy's behavior became increasingly inappropriate and distressing over the years. He developed an obsession with the narrator, often making uncomfortable comments and requests regarding her body. His behavior escalated into physical groping, which the narrator repeatedly reported to their teachers. Unfortunately, the responses were dismissive, attributing his actions to his autism and implying that she should be more understanding and accommodating.
The situation reached a breaking point when Troy groped her under her skirt. In a moment of intense distress, the narrator reacted by punching Troy, resulting in his nose being broken. This incident led to severe consequences for her, including isolation at school as punishment for allegedly bullying an autistic student, while Troy's actions were overlooked due to his disability and his family's influential status in the community.
The aftermath was challenging for the narrator, facing widespread condemnation from her community and even receiving death threats. However, she received support online where she shared her story, which helped her feel validated in her feelings and actions. Her family decided to remove her from the school and sought legal assistance to address the injustices she endured. Throughout this ordeal, the narrator emphasized that her actions were a response to continued harassment, not a reflection of prejudice against autistic individuals. Troy's actions, as she noted, were those of an individual who happened to be autistic, not behaviors condoned or excused by his condition.

Do you have autism? I do, and what you call "that kind of autism" is high functioning autism, and it is a disability that definitely can (or should) absolve you from consequences in certain situations (social situations, most frequently) where you really didn't intend to cause problems.

Come ON! Yes, autism is a very real thing that NEEDS to be addressed, which I should know as I have mild autism myself, but just because someone is autistic is most definitely NOT an excuse to allow them to pull stunts like this. I wonder how all these people who are ganging up on OP, the victim and the clearly wronged, would feel if this kid turns around and did them the same way or worse.

At my sixth form college there was a lad (a little older than the rest of the class) who behaved like this with a few of the girls. He’d stare very obviously, make lewd comments, try to touch people. He was particularly ‘attached’ to a friend of mine and even tried to follow her home. Every girl knew he was someone to be very careful around and several people complained to the college but we were always just told “he’s autistic, he doesn’t understand.” They never TRIED to make him understand. Frankly, the guy wasn’t stupid. It seems incredibly insulting to autistic people to just assume there was no point speaking to him about it (and never mind that some of the girls who were absolutely terrified of him were neurodivergent too…) Nothing was done, no repercussions for him, nothing to make us feel safe.
There’s no excuse for this. I’m glad this girl punched her abuser (because that’s what he is) and I wish the adults around them had done something to protect her. This boy has been allowed to grow into a predator; the teachers should be ashamed, as they have let both of them down in different ways.

One was a chill guy, the other quickly became too attached to me. He followed me around and walked me to places I did not need to be walked to. He waited outside my classes, and when I told him very firmly I actually am not attracted to boys, he kept asking me uncomfortable questions about it and would text me ALL THE TIME. Eventually I made friends with other people and at least three of them had had a creepy experience with this guy, including being sent an unsolicited picture. We all reported him but they did nothing and insisted it was ok because he just didn't understand boundaries. I called BS, because after all, we had met because I'm also autistic, and I have never ever acted that way towards someone.

Man with autism here. Allow me to first vent at the fact that teachers are perpetuating a myth that autistic people are not intelligent enough to understastand certain things, which causes the utmost indignation within me; while it is true that we have developmental impairments, these are not absolutes and we absolutely can and do learn the skills necessary to function socially, communicatively and behaviourally. Encourage us to ask questions so that we can integrate better and it makes life easier and happier for all involved. Our emotional experience is intense, especially loneliness, depression, anxiety and attraction. Ultimately, we are still responsible for how we react to our emotions, regardless of intensity.
When faced with authority figures being unwilling to step in to put a stop to it, I think you had every right to do what it takes to stop it. Ignorance is not an excuse for any level of autism. No one, no matter how much help they need, are entitled to breach your boundaries and nor to your tolerance for breaking them. Boundaries that are broken must have consequences, and your tolerance must end where they are broken. This is not optional, and not something anyone - not the law or employer - can ask of you.
Edit: this goes towards everyone. Boundaries must have consequences. If they are reasonable and needed for you to get through life feeling safe, in control and happy, then enforce them. Make them known. Be polite about it though, especially if it was accidental. Boundaries are conditions for your consent, they are standards to be met, limitations on autonomy for the sake of a relationship - any relationship. Do not be afraid to reject people if they breach a boundary, or if their personality inclines them to: how they feel and react is on them, not you. No one is entitled to acceptance. Equally, it does not entitle you to be rude, uncompromisong or unreasonable about it. Always reserve a level of respect for someone for their boundaries so they can also abide by yours.

okay but you keep forgetting that impulse issues over rule the knowledge from right and wrong. That is the thing that teachers and you keep misinterpreting. Impulse doesn't care about morality especially in the moment when intrusive thoughts kick in. It's really stupid to follow that dilemma. "if they know right from wrong then obviously they will make the right choices!" as when has any of us made the right choice 100% of the time despite knowing right from wrong. and it's not as easy as "just control yourself it's easy bro" when your brain is physically stunted at that degree.
I'm autistic too, I know yelling out swears is wrong, but when things get over whelming it's really hard to make the right choice and not to. Granted I barely grazed the ability to regulate self control. But not every autistic individual is the same.

As an autistic person myself, having a disability of any kind is no excuse. In college I knew a guy with cerebal palsy who was in a wheelchair. Everyone knew he was a creep and tried to touch girls or pretend to accidentally bump into them with his wheelchair to get close to them. He did this to me once and was touching my inner thigh. It was the first time that had happened to me and no one did anything even when I reported it. At the same college I was put into a small club to help me make friends because if my autism. It was with two autistic boys. One of them was a really chill guy and the other got way too close to me and followed me around and waited outside my classes. He drew pictures for me on the day I met him and constantly stared at me. I felt uncomfortable and then he started texting me non stop and would ask me weird questions about my sexuality as I had told him I was not attracted to boys. I made friends with some other girls who all had the same, if not worse experience with him. He even sent one of them a picture of his.. euuuur brotha. I just ghosted him after learning that.

You’d be surprised how prepared schools are to offload autistic students on to their neurotypical friends in a ‘they’re your problem now, if something happens, it’s your fault’ way. I remember going to a theme park as a rewards trip, and I was decent friends with someone who was autistic. I don’t want to corroborate the notion that everyone with autism is like Sheldon Cooper, but he honestly fit the specs quite well. He didn’t enjoy rollercoasters at all, and although I’m not seeking out the most extreme rollercoaster, I didn’t want to just walk around the theme park. I was like ‘there’s a cafe near here, how about you go there while I go on this, you have my number so if there’s a problem, call/text me’. All good. Nope! The teachers went in that cafe, saw him there, he was all ‘she’s in that line for this rollercoaster’, so they go out and have a go at me. Not in a way that’s like ‘you left him alone and that’s dangerous’ (which is fair-ish) but like ‘you know he shouldn’t be by himself, who knows what will happen, he needs someone to keep an eye on him’. I had to leave the line, go to him, the teachers made me apologise to him (while he’s looking at me like ‘?’), and I spent the entirety of that trip with him, just walking around the theme park, not going on anything. He knew the vibe of what happened and did keep apologising, but I told him it wasn’t his fault. And these days, this guy who always apparently needs an eye kept on him because he’s just a child deep down? He got married, wow, it’s almost like autistic people can lead regular lives not unlike those of their neurotypical counterparts.

I was holding on to my dearest buddy ol pal's shoulders in the line when he pushed me out of the way to grab on her shoulders. She didn't notice until i told her and she was lowkey horrified. There were other times where he would hug people from behind and be like "are you my mommy?" During PE?? This is what happened to me and many others. I just shoved him away from me and ran over to my friends. around that time is when my friends went to the school staff, i think they were working with the councilor. I dont remember what they said about that but he was never punished, just told to stay away from some people at lunch. He did other things too. (And it wasn't just the girls who were uncomfortable, it was like everyone but the staff) one time he basically told this one guy to touch his private parts because "i wont tell~" like what!? He's said and done other questionable things that i dont remember but yeah
It got worse in 6th grade. Grabbing this one girls thighs (that girls friend found out and basically attacked him and pushed him to the ground. W human being honestly, but she got suspended even though he wasn't hurt), telling another he'd get her pregnant no matter what, etc. That was when the school FINALLY decided to get rid of him. And his mother had the audacity to get mad at the school and the people who defended themselves. Glad he wont come back since his mom thinks he was getting bullied

As an autistic person myself, I firmly believe these autistic kids who “don’t know any better” know adults think these things about them, and use this to their advantage, whether said adults realize it or not. They 100% know what they’re doing, and what they’re capable of, but they also know using their diagnosis as an excuse will absolve them of any wrongdoing. These kids are too protected in society nowadays and need to be held accountable for their actions, like when I was in school. My argument would be “now if these autistic children aren’t held accountable for their actions today, what is this going to teach them in the future? Are you trying to teach these children that being autistic absolves them of any responsibility for their behavior? I’m autistic myself, but if I walked out into the street and punched a random passerby, or gr*ped a teenage girl, I expect I would very quickly be arrested. I could argue ‘nooo, you can’t arrest me, I’m autistic’ all I want, but it won’t stop the police from detaining me, will it?” Now I may not be perfect, and I’m far from a role model, but I know damn well to keep my hands to myself, like Junior Kindergarten (I’m Canadian for those who are confused) taught me when I was only 4 years old…

Im in high school too and I’ve been scared of something like this… there’s a guy in my school who’s definitely special ed but has no concept of personal space and due to past issues with guys(specifically a guy in middle school who also used autism as an excuse for similar to what OP is talking ab but also other guys) its scary to have a guy make physical contact without me being ok with it and if im wearing shorts, ripped jeans, or a T-shirt he’ll come up and start touching my arms/legs and it makes me extremely uncomfortable and kinda scared tbh. I have a friend thats also super uncomfortable with him and she told me that at one point he grabbed her thigh. Im always scared that if i say not to touch me everyone will hate me and think im a b*tch so i just live scared and avoid him and if he comes near I hide in the bathroom(did the same thing I did with the autistic guy before him, I would skip lunch to avoid him and I actually love my breaks in the school day). The middle school guy was high functioning, im not entirely sure ab the current guy, but either way its scary to speak up ab smth like that so while I didnt have it nearly as bad, I understand somewhat what you’re going through OP and I’m glad your situation is better now

Straighten your back and slightly bend your knees to lower the center of gravity.

As someone with autism and ADHD myself, with an autistic brother as well, you are 100% NTA. Having a mental disability does not give you the excuse to be degenerate without consequences. Also, I know this doesn't go for everyone with autism, but I have met a surprising number of horrible people with autism. Some are openly rude (and yes, I know we struggle with communication, but these people were VERY rude and didn't apologise and made excuses about being autistic when challenged on their behaviour), and one man that I worked with who had autism was very pushy with me, trying to be overly-friendly with romantic intentions in mind, even when I made it clear I wasn't comfortable with what he was doing. He was one of the main reasons I left the job. So, yeah... I feel that a lot of people use their autism as an excuse to behave however they want.

The intersection of neurodivergence and abuse is a pretty heavy subject obviously, in the majority of cases- it's usually the person with autism being abused by a neurotypical person. Often a care giver or other authority figure, but sometimes peer groups; I can personally attest to the latter I'm sorry to say.
It's interesting (so to speak, maybe not the best word) to see the dyamic reversed and ableist attitudes permitting abuse by an autistic individual rather than abuse of an autistic individual. I'm not sure a text-to-speech content mill that offers no commentary, investigation or exploration of the subject is really the right venue for this discussion though.
It goes without saying that the parents and authorities in these stories really did a lot of harm through their ignorance and indifference, so in either case- whether it's abuse by or of a neurodivergent individual; the problem is ableist attitudes and a culture that permits abuse, such as the pernicious *sigh* "grape" culture in the first story or the culture of machismo and violent correction in the second. It's especially sad to see the way in which parents and authorities in both cases internalised this obnoxious notion of autism being "male coded" and went as far as to attribute symptoms of toxic masculinity to autism. Really a stew of various bad, ignorant attitudes and beliefs that is.
