Your sound examples are fantastic - in particular, the metal musical instrument is a stunning creation - and all very well recorded. The Portacapture device seemed to do very well in your tests.
The X6 seems very promising to me. I like the possibility of being able to use an app for remote control. ... You are per se THE source of inspiration for me - thank you so much for everything! I wish you continued enjoyment in your work, and all the best! Frank
Would love to see you going over your mastering process! Like the Bass control you often mentioned on your dynamic eq and what to look out for when creating ambience or sound design :D
I had considered the X8 some time ago but instead ended up buying the CEntrance Mixerface R4 which has been simply superb. If I ended up buying a second unit, the X6 or X8 would be at the top of my list. However, everyone is currently selling the X8 for $389 which puts it at only $20 more than the X6!
I was looking at buying a Zoom H4N but now....hmm....this lil' X6 fella looks quite promising. Thank you Robert for sharing all of this, I could seriously binge watch your entire channel, it's truly inspiring.
Thank you Robert for this review. I think I'll try the X6 soon, It's been years since I had anything from Tascam in my rig, but this looks like a good device to have in a backpack. Pozdrowienia!

You should sell that gun adapter. Thank you very much for the video. As always, very helpful. One question: the sounds we hear in your videos (in this one at least), have some kind of editing, cleaning or processing, or is it "raw" sound from the recorder? Lot of thanks.
Thank You, The sounds are from the recorder, but I play with the levels after recordings and did some edit to keep everything tide and keep video short.
Nice. Looks like a cool device and will probably sell very well after the very disappointing releases from Zoom (M2 and M4). I see the price is about $369 too, so well priced. Thanks Robert.

X8 or X6 have very similar nice warm tone and the sound is very open with depth in addition 32bit float will give you a lot details in the sound. About H5 I owned H6 a long time ago but for me the sound was very thin and have missing color and depth very sound digital.
Hi there, thank you for your informative review. I’m also considering buying one of these recorders but I’m not sure which one yet. So I have two questions that I can’t find an answer on yet. 1. The mic capsules on both devices look different. Are they also sounding different? 2. Is the software (and software options) on both the same? Hope it’s oki to ask. Well, have a lovely day and thanks again!
Hello there! It seems like you're discussing the differences between the TASCAM Portacapture X6 and X8 recorders. While the capsules on the X6 may be smaller, they still provide a clean and warm sound that is quite impressive. The X6 and X8 recorders have the same operating system, but the main difference is that the X8 can record up to 192 kHz while the X6 can only record up to 96 kHz. Both recorders have the remarkable feature of being able to record in 32-bit float, which is especially beneficial when recording loud sounds.
Thank you so much Robert. I bought the x6 and I love this little recorder. The mics are very sensitive though so I also got a dead cat thingie now that works wonders! But they indeed sound very good. Good luck on your channel and thanks again!
@@RobertDudzic Thank you so much. I'm pretty new to this audio thing. Does it make a difference in quality to record in 192 khz from the x8 to the 96 khz from the x6?
