    00:00 🦷 You don't need to floss, but it's crucial to clean between your teeth to maintain dental health. Alternatives to flossing can still keep your teeth and gums healthy.
    01:04 🪶 Bamboo charcoal floss absorbs toxins and has natural wax, avoiding harmful residues.
    01:50 ⚠️ Teflon Glide floss can leave harmful particles in your cells, causing irritation and inflammation.
    02:31 ✨ Use floss correctly by making a C shape around each tooth to avoid damaging your gums.
    03:37 🔄 Floss picks and interdental brushes are alternatives to traditional floss, but be cautious not to damage gums by using them incorrectly.
    05:00 🌟 Gentle care is essential for gums; avoid using tools that can damage or injure your gums.
    08:10 💧 Water flossers, especially shower-mounted ones, are effective for cleaning between teeth but should be complemented with traditional flossing.
    11:02 🔄 Use any method that effectively cleans between teeth; choose a floss type that doesn’t add toxins or cause issues.
    12:15 📘 Request the tooth care guide for a concise overview of toothbrushes, products, and flossing options.

    I'm surprised these videos aren't gaining more traction, it's great info. I love seeing more professionals coming out, and providing information / advice, that's contrary to what you get with conventional dentistry!
    I avoided dentists for so many years, because it wasn't easy to find providers that agreed with this more holistic and natural approach, so it's great to see it becoming normalized and available.
    For my gums, I oil pull with sesame, coconut, or wheatgrass a few times per week. I also alternate every couple days, between non toxic floss, and the water flosser (with distilled water and a little baking soda). When I eat fruit, maple syrup, acids, etc, I rinse. It seems to be doing the trick.

      Distilled water is devoid of minerals, and so in addition to the baking soda, it would be good to add mineral-rich Celtic Sea salt. There are mineral drops you can also buy, but I think they're more expensive than the Celtic Sea salt.

    • @00Jay00
      @00Jay00 2 місяці тому

      @cozycoffee3831 Distilled is the best to run through the machine. Easily helped with using spring water to rinse (this is what I do). Drinking distilled water is a different story, but using it for oral care shouldn't be a big deal for most people that eat mineral rich foods.

    RDH since 1985, I love the Air Flosser! This has been my main between the teeth cleaner for years, love that you can use many full strength mouthwashes very economically. I tell all my patients I lovingly call it the “man” flosser as it is the only thing my husband will use😊. Less mess, more portable and it doesn’t mess up my counter or mirror. Yes I do floss a little but diet and over good health is what I believe has kept me caries free for over 45 yrs. Oh yes, daily xylitol is also key. Zellie’s are the bomb!

    Actually rolling the floss around the major finger instead of the index can make a huge difference in manipulating the floss. Try it! As a ex dental hygienist I’ve seen a lot of patients who didn’t floss because they found it difficult become regular floss users.

    I really love the flat wood toothpicks. Their tips splay out with use and so become like little brushes, but, they still have enough structure that I can push my gums with them, which I think increases the blood flow. Whatever it does, it's really addictive, and I'm surprised that more people don't use them.

    Instead of wrapping the floss around your finger, tie the two ends into a circle. This uses less floss and doesn't hurt your fingers. I found the best way is to make a square knot, not a
    granny knot that doesn't hold. Then fold the string with the knot at the bottom and slip the
    knot through a loop, open the circle and pull. This makes a second knot that holds the circle tight.

    "The ocean is full of plastic floss picks..." Agree about the plastic on the beach. There are lines of plastic of different colors that wash up and it is alarming. Dr.Michelle did not mention fine thin bamboo sticks that they have used in Asia forever. They are sliver thin and easily slide between the teeth. You can get them at 4" and they're strong, you can manipulate them gently around the teeth. Then throw them in the ocean where the salt will desintegrate and compost them. They are as thin as you can get them, like hair thin, almost, and still be bamboo. I follow up flossing with xylitol coating my teeth with it but letting it stay in my mouth at bedtime. My teeth feel better and they've become lighter in color, kind of crystaline looking.

    I've got crooked teeth because my lower gum is way too small. Sometimes the floss just gets stuck and I've even remains of it inbetween my teeth that are hard to get rid of.
    My nine-year-old seems to develop the same problem. Her dentist told me that she'll need braces when she's about 12. (But how will they work when there's nowhere they can move?) I heard there were ways to help jaw bone development for more space in the mouth. (For teeth as well as the tongue. We're mouth breathers because of our small jaws.) Is there anything you can reccomend?

    • @catherinem421
      @catherinem421 15 днів тому

      Your dentist is conventional, which means they are behind on the times. You and your daughter have overcrowded teeth due to small jaws. Small jaws develop because of inadequate tongue tone, which contributes to mouth breathing. Mouth breathing is a compensation because your nasal airway is not large enough to get oxygen to your brain. Your overall health (brain, heart, nervous system) is negatively impacted. I strongly suggest finding an airway focused dentist. They will talk about expansion for your child (it should done asap because childrens skeletons are still developing and to avoid having to have unnecessary procedures like braces, and stave off a lifetime of harmful health impacts mentioned above. Myofunctional therapy is used in tandem with expansion because it strengthens the muscles of the mouth to achieve proper tongue placement, which is necessary for keeping the teeth and muscles in place and to avoid relapse.
      Expansion for adults is achievable as well, but may require more involved treatments: i.e. surgery, due to the adult skeleton being fused.
