  • Today we continue the "rolling restoration" of this 1976 Porsche 912 with it's Subaru EZ30R Swapped Motor. We do a massive cleanup and repaint of the frunk, rear wheel wells, and of course the engine compartment using Wurth undercoating. Not only does it look factory, but it gives us a great "platform" to install the EZ30R in the cleanest way possible.

    This is a Porsche 911 restoration that was abandoned in 1994 after being converted to a race car. My plan is a twin turbo Subaru EZ30 porsche engine swap with 400+ HP to the wheels. Stay tuned.

    Ben!
    I have a possible merch idea for you Michael - the Rennch “wrench” logo. Couldn’t that be something your friends at SendCutSend could produce for you in batches? Powder coated in the correct color. Develop the file, maybe get one produced so your viewer could see a production sample then offer up knowing the sign logo would be batched in fours… so more orders would need to be in before the batch is produced… or whatever makes sense. just a thought. Would be a cool wall hanging for any garage… Porsche, BMW, Mini…

    Unless there are budget issues, IMHO the old paint should have been removed completely...

      Why? Porsche undercoating is some of the best in the industry. If there's no rust it makes no sense.

      I ended up getting out of it and selling the equipment. It was far too labor-intensive and I didn't love the work.

    Sorry man but cleaning all that brown gunk off the firewall and every other small thing still stuck to the white paint would be the minimum I'd do before painting over it. My prefered method is media blasting the whole area for some nice new primer and paint. These rattle can refreshes aren't my idea of doing things well I'm sorry to say.

    I'm not super familiar with how best to handle rust, but I've seen some use some sort of abrasive grinder to remove the surface level rust before spraying anti rust coating on metal. what was the thought process with just spraying instead of trying to remove some of the rust first? love the project and the progress!

    Hey, I haven’t watched all of this video but you said you were going to spray the engine compartment and the Frunk with wurth and that’s black.!
    I’m hoping that you’re going to paint over the worth and not leave it black and paint the engine compartment the color that the car will be painted.
    Why am saying this is with some Porsches an American car so many people will go in and paint the engine compartment in a car rattle Can black and it seems like it’s to cover up and hide defects and it makes it very hard to see what you’re doing in the engine compartment if the color is black in there That’s all I’m saying
    I rebuilt my 911 Porsche engine, and I repainted the engine compartment and the Frunk with the color that the car was painted and it really makes those areas much more attractive.
    Keep up the good work on your cars. I enjoy watching your videos.

    Please do this properly. This is not restoring the car, this is doing a bodge job.

      This car does not need a "restoration". Do your car how you want to do your car bro.

      @bartl9956 4 місяці тому

      I could hardly call this a bodge job. Good solid repairs and preparation for paint. I have seen ‘restorations’ that were done worse than this.

    • @Andrew-vx2ls
      @Andrew-vx2ls 4 місяці тому

      @@bartl9956 The author has removed a lot of the original paint.
      This will create longer term issues if just a quick spray over is left unattended, but we have been informed that this is for short term use.
      The important part is not to pass this off as restoration (which is often the fault of the customer rather than the painter!).

    • @rennch.
      @rennch.  4 місяці тому +2

      If the factory undercoating is undisturbed, and there are no rust issues, it's best to leave it intact. There will be zero issues with what we did for 20+ years.
