In this video, we’re going to talk about the good, bad, and ugly of estrogen.
Estrogen is not a single hormone-it’s a complex of three hormones. Each of these hormones works together in different ratios. When this ratio is altered-especially as you age-it can cause a hormonal imbalance.
2-hydroxy estrogen has protective properties. However, 16-hydroxy can increase your risk of cancer if it’s too high. It’s important to normalize the balance of these hormones to minimize your health risks.
GMO foods are a major contributor to hormonal imbalances. They can increase your estrogen and throw off your estrogen balance.
Your liver helps get rid of excess estrogen. However, if your liver is fatty, scarred, or otherwise diseased, this can decrease your ability to get rid of excess estrogen.
The best remedies for high estrogen are:
    • Cruciferous vegetables (DIM)
    • Sea kelp (natural iodine)
    • Avoiding GMO foods (go organic!)
If you’re over 50, you want to actively balance your estrogen with these three remedies.

Awesome talk :-) I'm male so it doesn't affect me as much as women... However, I eat Miso Soup on a regular basis (without Tofu (I do not consume Soy products, which are not Fermented - Miso Paste is fermented))... Properly made "Dashi" is critical. One soaks Kombu Sea Kelp and creates a Fish sock using Bonito Fish flakes, then adds the Kelp stock, then Miso Paste... Done deal. Yummy! Oh! I also sprinkle some chopped green onions over it for additional flavor. This soup is full of Natural Iodine and was consumed in large amounts, by the Japanese, following "Hiroshima", to repair the body and remove radiation poisoning... Not being required for that purpose, currently, there is generally too much iodine and has to be consumed in moderation... Funny little thing... In my case, I sometimes crave Miso Soup... There must be something in it that my body needs... Hmmm...

Hi Dr Berg, I would like to ask you a question. Some people say taking plant based phytoestrogens or beans is good for you in that it blocks the receptors in breast tissue etc from endogenous estrogen, which is the "dangerous" one, hence lowering the risk of cancer? Im so confused with different information. I always learned that high levels of estrogen is bad, accumulated as in obesety, PCOS, etc. But then again more pregnancies at a younger age protect from breast cancer. So do some types of estrogen spikes do something to the receptors?? What is your take on this? Momo

I’ve always been on the lower side of estrogen and have a history of amenorrhea. I’ve taken DIM for years now which is great but still confused as I had a test recently my overall Oestodial score is low but Oestrone is near the low end of the high being close to menopause. So hope I’m on the right track by always take liver supplements, DIM and eat seaweed so I’m low risk.

Wow! I dealt with DCIS and do NOT want to take hormone blockers, but I've been hearing about the "two types of estrogen", news to me. I wonder how medical oncologists feel about the endeavor to increase the good estrogen and decrease the bad estrogen rather than take hormone blockers--in women who are at low risk for recurrence (I didn't need radiation or chemo after the lumpectomy)

Great video...but 16 and 2 Hydroxy are the oestrogen metabolites not the oestrogen. The Oestrogen that is unhealthy is E1 and the 4 hydroxy pathway is the most dangerous (ie. causes DNA damage); and yes the 2:16 ratio is important too. DIM is a fantastic source of improving oestrogen balance and so is Alpha Lipoid Acid which is a brilliant detoxifier too and help avoid any DNA damage. The confusing thing is that oestrogen is also one of the bodies biggest anti inflammatory agents so nobody should seek to reduce it out of existence.....also it is important that oestrogen:progesterone ratios are balanced too, because oestrogen should not be dominant.

Because Medical Doctors are trained by Universities who have been sponsored by the Pharmaceutical companies who have lobbied their way through the laws of this nation. Traditional Doctors can only prescribe pharmaceutical medications and will be banned from practicing if they do otherwise. They are not taught anything that has to do with natural medicine. You need to find a Holistic Docto for this.

They're taught to treat the symptoms and push pills to make $. If we all got healthy little by little how would these drug companies make money....🤔 They have to keep ppl sick and uninformed...this is where Dr. Berg, Dr. Mercola and Dr. Northrup..she was the first one I came across years ago, but I was too busy raising my sons, working and eating a bunch of crap.... present day it's me time.

Always good information to keep healthy, but it seems that every time I watch a video, I'm out buying MORE supplements. My cabinet is four shelves full of assorted supplements that I choke down at least three tines a day. What a chore, is it really worth it? Am I really making a difference to better my health? I wonder...

try Cron-o-meter.com.. good place to start logging your diet for a season to see what you are missing... then supplement what you are not getting in your diet. It helped me greatly to get my vitamins from my food and to see what I lack and what I should supplement. good luck!! less pills the better....

For those who experience discomfort consuming/digesting cruciferous vegetables, is a vast amount important or are smaller amounts, consistently, just as beneficial?

I start suspecting that I'm estrogen dominant after being on the pill for 13 years. (I'm off it since May). I started the Keto diet and I'm super strict (weighting my food, watching the calories, grass-fed meat, organic veggies, drinking lots of water...) and I lost NOTHING so far. I also noticed that my weight gain is not affecting my overall body, but only my upper arms, legs and hips. It's VERY frustrating. I will get my hormones checked next month..

I can see that your post is an old one, but it sounds like you’re talking about me lol I went through the same thing, I was told to get on hormone therapy but instead, I saw his video just in time and I ordered the DIM and the sea kelp, and within one month I noticed a huge difference, I’m now at my third month, and I can tell and feel my body is going back to normal, still working on the weight, yes, frustrating, but I was wondering how you’re doing today

Why 'o Why did my PCP nor Endrocronologist tell me this?! Cut ALL my meds for diabetes & thyroid and rocking it with your supplements! I am still angry though...WHY didn't they tell me 10 years ago it could of been just excess 16-estro?! Finally losing weight (quickly) now as opposed to the slow creeping gain :)

      @Drberg  Місяць тому

Hello, our DIM serving is 200 mg of diindolylmethane (DIM), 134 mg of vitamin E. Check it out! 👉 shop.drberg.com/product/estrogen-balance-with-dim
On Iodine, the recommended daily amount is 150 micrograms for adults, but pregnant and lactating women need more. Check out this link for that 👉 www.drberg.com/blog/what-is-iodine-good-for
