Fred once said 3.9 yards per rush for a Pittsburgh runner is looked at as 4.3 by everybody. You know who he was talking about and that dude is in the Hall and he’s not.

Hell yeah Fred Taylor should be in the HoF. It’s crazy that he’s not in yet. The HoF loses credibility everyday he’s not inducted.

Fred Taylor had a signature run I remember. There was a game against the colts.
Bob Sanders the hard hitting safety smashed Fred and taunted him. The very next play Fred got the ball up the gut, the line opened up and only Sanders was there.
They hit head on and Taylor ran right through him, sending Sanders flying. He ran it in for the score.

Mike Doss, not Bob Sanders. I believe that was Del Rio's first year as HC ...2003? and the Jags had a terrible record at the time (1-7). This run which was deep in the 4th quarter won the Jags the game, and they ended up closing out the year 4-4. Fred had over 1500 yards that year. This was also the first time that I could recall that the quiet reserved Fred talked a little trash to the media, saying at some point he would run over Doss in the game because he felt Doss disrespected him after a play earlier that year.

I can think of two Fred Taylor signature runs right away, both against the dolphins. The 1999 divisional playoffs, 90 yards to the house! Still the longest run in the playoffs in NFL history! He also torched the Dolphins with an 80 or 90 yard run on Monday Night Football in 1998 or 1999 can’t remember.

  • @rosemodels4617
    @rosemodels4617 4 місяці тому +2

What the hell is Dan talking about. He said no signature run. He actually has multiple Amazon runs. 90 yards against the dolphins in the divisional round. Had an over 50 yard run his first carry in the league. He had multiple great runs in a game against the Tampa bay bucs who at the time had an amazing defense. He went for 3 tds that game. This is the problem with sports media. You talk about small markets and how they are not illuminated, you are suppose to illuminate them. Also the hall of fame is a way to illuminate them as well. Go look at the tape and then realize they should be in the hall of fame. Having the numbers and the tape that he has alone puts him in the hall of fame.

    Great topic and excellent points,
got me thinking about who’s career closely resembles Fred’s in terms of production and is in the Hall of Fame:
    CURTIS MARTIN
    games played: 168
    total rushing yds: 14,101
    rushing tds: 90
    receptions: 484
    rec. yards: 3329
    rec. tds: 10
    FRED TAYLOR
    games played: 153
    total rushing yds: 11,695
    rushing tds:66
    receptions: 290
    rec. yards: 2384
    rec. tds: 8
Martin played in 15 more games in his career and gained 2,406 more rushing yards although the Jets never made it to a SB and the team was not consistently in contention similar to Taylor’s Jaguars during his tenure.
Look forward to hearing Fred on the show 🎙🎧👀👍

I was searching for info on Fred Taylor and the HOF and came across this. I was a HUGE Fred Taylor fan, and I grew up watching Payton play in Chicago and have have high standards regarding running backs (no, I’m not saying Fred was as good as Walter). Taylor was a beast!

Not only did his number stack up but the level of competition is not negligible. Big numbers against the likes of Pittsburgh, tennessee, baltimore. If he played againt the competition that adrian peterson did ( green bay, detroit etc. ) or tiki ( washington, dallas) i think his numbers would be higher. And he didnt just play for good jacksonville teams, he carried them- Or was the biggest workhorse.

He was definitely a Hall of Fame talent and put up Hall of Fame numbers, but it’s hard for me to justify putting a guy in the Hall of Fame who only had one pro bowl. Then again you have to realize that Fred Taylor had the unfortunate circumstance of coming into the NFL when the running back position was still the most dominant position on the offensive end outside of QB. He was in a conference with Terrell Davis, Jerome Bettis, Eddie George, Edgerrin James, Jamall Lewis, Curtis Martin etc. It was only so many spots to fill for the running back in the AFC conference for pro bowl. But I remember Fred Taylor very well, and he was definitely one of the most talented running backs of his era.
