The background jazzy music was terrific. The budget for making the cartoon was not large and it was even less for the second and third seasons. The voice acting was good. Kids who watched it were very entertained by the overall product
I appreciate your effort to be fair. Still your view is somewhat jaded. It was so different back then. The Spiderman cartoon and others were mainly aimed at boys between the ages of 5-10, who may have never read a superhero comic book. Cartoons up until that time were mainly funny animal stories. Ironically one of the show's animators was Ralph Bashki who later produced adult animated movies like Fritz the Cat and Wizards. Finally, something a lot comic book fans fail to comprehend is that if they in conversation began critically analyzing a cartoon or comic book like we do now, they would think as an adult you had LOST YOUR MIND. The average person just did not do that. I know because lived during those times. Adults did not start taking superhero stuff seriously until Christopher Reeves Superman Movie came out in the late 70's.
This cartoon was my introduction to Spider-Man. I was 5 years old in 1967 and I fell in love with this show just as I did with “Batman” the previous year. I’m still a big fan of both superheroes and despite its flaws, I still think season 1 of the 1967 Spider-Man is the best of the animated shows.
You have to keep in mind that the animation was actually groundbreaking at the time. Ironically, the villains were allowed to say “die” in the 60s cartoon but not in the 90s cartoon.
I grew up watching this as a kid. It was good for its time. And I would argue that the Ralph Bakshi episodes were the best. People today need to look at it in context. Pre- internet, pre- home video rental, what did comic fans have? At the time there wasn't anything better, but because it did exist at all, it paved the way for what followed... I would like to see you doing another video focusing on Bakshi's episodes specifically -- they have aged best.
Thanks for your comment, i definitely want to go back and revisit Ralph’s episodes in the future. I tried to view this, putting my mind in the place of a viewer during the 60s, but I am spoiled due to the modern day interpretations
The people who make fun of this, are the ones who have today's high budget stuff to compare it to, some of us didn't, this was our first exposure to Spider-man on screen, I loved it in the 70's, and still watch my dvd set today.
One thing I dont think u touched on was this shows soundtrack..It is banging!.So fun and jazzy!.Here on UA-cam someone made a long compilation of the music and I put that on all the time!
That episode with spider-man going to jail instead of being unmasked then pretending to be one of the bad guys escaping to help Captain Stacy is straight from Amazing Spider-Man 65.
I watched this series in reruns from about ages five through twelve. Watching it at a young age meant unsophisticated viewing-which is key to loving the show. And I had only the comic books as comparison. I cherish this show from the theme song, to Vulture, Doc Ock, Green Goblin, and especially Electro, my homemade Halloween costume at age eight.
My ex wife hated the 1980s Legend of Zelda cartoon. (Then again she insisted it was from the 90s.) I loved it as a kid because it was so faithful to the game. Again, it was the only Zelda media that we had.
As it happens, the 1967 series is my absolute favorite, but then, I am also a big fan of the Lawrence Grantrey Marvel Heros series of 1966 which had considerably less animated movement then this series, they still both rock better then any current versions at least to me.
On Saturday mornings this is one that came on at 5 AM so I was very lucky if I got up early enough to catch a glimpse of it I guess that’s why I still have a special fascination
Fair enough😂 if you do I’d check out the ones in season one with Scorpion, Vulture, electro, and rhino, but honestly I think this video will give you your fix 💀
This was the first Spider-Man series I ever saw and is actually what made him my favorite character. So, I can't completely trash the series but it definitely leaves a lot to be desired. The series really falls off the rails for me after the creative change starting with season two. The first two episodes of that season are my favorite of the Ralph Bakshi episodes because of the first animated telling of Spider-Man's origin and the first animated appearance of the King Pin. The only thing that makes the ever-lasting swinging sequences in the last two season bearable are the music cues. You probably have no idea how much the music from this show means to a lot of people. People would be thrilled if they released an official soundtrack for this show. I'm glad you realized that there wasn't much source material to go by, at the time so, unfortunately, they had to come up with a lot of wacky original characters. Bakshi's green skinned villains had a lot of people scratching their heads. I could say so much more about this series, lol.
Thank you for your Insite! I’m sure the series was really fun for the era that it was in! I could imagine growing up with this series and having along of nostalgia for it! The good parts of the show were great and it left me wanting more but unfortunately there wasn’t a lot that I enjoyed a whole lot
I'm one of the many old farts that grew up on this cartoon. I could never put my finger on why it appealed to me as a kid, but yeah, I think it's the ultra campy quality of the cartoon series as a whole.
Oh I love the campy vibe of the whole show, it makes its stand out. As a fan of Spider-Man and I’ve watched all the series, this one definitely stands out for those reasons
I was born in 1963. A Spiderman cartoon was fantastic as a kid. Seasons 2 & 3 sucked. As I look back ... Spiderman's web turning into any object he needed??? Story lines and plots were so loose that anyone over 15 years old caught on how flimsy this series was. The art work peaked in season one in the episode with the "Phantom and his shadows" ... Spiderman was more detailed ... they brought out his muscles ... Then they ran out of money and someone else took over. I watch season one's episodes often ... But as a whole ... I give it a ... D-

That makes sense! I totally believe that, I can see how this would only be targeted towards the younger kids
I first watched spidey reruns circa mid 70s. It's true.

Yeah I agree! All of the 90’s villains never died, he also couldn’t even punch in the 90’s!

No way. I did not know that, I’ll have to read that. I’ll add it to the list

I absolutely LOVE this. I bet your electro costume was so cool
I really liked ur review..I was more of a late 80’s early 90’s kid so I loved this cartoon!.I still liked Spidey and his amazing friends better though
I agree!!
The theme song!
One of the most iconic!
Good video. I enjoyed the show back in the day for what it is. I still like it, it’s very 60s lol.
Veryyyyyy 60’s! It’s a fun show
It was awesome because it was all we had.
I would of loved it as a kid

That was me with Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends! I was an early 2000’s baby but any superhero show from pre 200 I have so much nostalgia for
Great review! I think im good on this one😂 i may watch the first 5 episodes tho
Fair enough😂 if you do I’d check out the ones in season one with Scorpion, Vulture, electro, and rhino, but honestly I think this video will give you your fix 💀
It's time the '81 show got some love.
It would be kinda funny if this spiderman series got a continuation instead of the 90s animated series.
I would cry 😭 literally reboot or revive any other Spider-Man series except this one please 💀

Cool
Cool
Triple cool.
Yeah!
This is dunce af..
Its a 60s cartoon, it doesnt need to be over analyzed
Erm what the sigma
I still love season 1, but I still HATE the Bashki seasons 2 and 3 45 plus years after originally watching them.
Season one is so charming.. the other two are sadly not
Did it have be groundbreaking????
