For those in 2023, to activate the developper options I firsy had to go to the "about my fire TV" page in the "device" section, and then click the central button 7 times (it's a hidden menu now)

Works great! Tips... You dont need to pair your controller to the fire stick. If its in range it will run via the pc. Also on the pc in advanced settings choose 720p for best performance. Even a 2.4ghz router will handle this

Holy hell I have been wondering how to do this on my LG C2 tv for ages! I had a firestick and I use it for a lot of stuff (like watching free movies with that downloader app) but I didn’t know I could use it for steam!! Thanks man! Works like a charm! best way to get a good stream connection is to have the computer hard-wired to the router, and the router (with 5GHz) in close proximity (and preferably unubstructed) to the firestick. generally network speed isn't the issue when streaming, rather package-loss and response-time. wired and 5GHz will help you achieve the best results.

@@alep7358 Most modern homes have cat5 drops through out the house. But yeah in some cases running an HDMI would be a much better experience. The draw back is distance to the PC signal degradation is more of a concern over HDMI then Ethernet or Wifi. So for instance in a large home where the PC and TV are on far sides of the house or the TV is a an "alternate" not an additional display the steam link app is just pure genius.
this reminds me there is a PS4 Remote play app that people have modified to work with any android device (would grate for the fire stick)

Face Deletion chrome cast is a big yes! Download the steam link app on your phone or tablet and then connect a controller to your phone via Bluetooth, and then boom, your playing on your TV.
On Fire Stick 4k Max To unlock Dev Options you need to go to about and then click on "Fire TV Stick 4K Max" 5 times

Normally the Steam Streamer is set to use h264 (mp4) as all devices support this. However, to get the best performance, you want to use h265 under the settings as its a much smaller file size, so your wireless network can cope with it better.
Does the sticks low end processor support h265? If not, honestly I wouldn't bother. Especially if ones wireless isn't consistently fast.
Wish Amazon and Valve can work their issues together and get this released on Fire OS natively
Damn, thanks for the video. Did not know I could install it without connecting it to the PC. Cause my TV is mounted to the wall and taking it down is a pita. I have the 4k Stick, it is the "arm v7a" on this one now aswell.
Just added it to my FireTV and played jackbox games. Worked perfectly!!!!
I will say the newest APK that has come out (as of Nov. 30), 1.1.27, didn't install. Kept saying error. 1.1.26 worked just fine though.

Yes it does, I use it on Fire HD10
ETA PRIME I use Apps2fire in the app store and it connects st8 to the stick and i just select any app (mobdro , terrarium, ect...)and it goes directly to the stick. Downloader takes up to much space.

Had to return my Fire Stick! Kept randomly rebooting. Had fun while it was actually working, though. I had actually installed SteamLink but didn't have much luck. Now I know to switch off the 2.4Ghz network.
The downloader app is not available for the fire stick so I used the ES explorer to transfer the apk from my cellphone.
I'm using the older generation fire stick and although I got the app to install and load, it was too unstable to be of any use, random crashes and screen flicking tearing.
Could you connect usb-ethernet adapter via usb otg?

Mmmh I am actually curious about latency on Android.. I mean it is known that android is a bit on the high side for both sound and video, it could be great to see a direct comparison with a steam link or another pc as streaming client.

How did you connect your fire stick to a 5ghz connection? Mine can't see the network at all.
Can you minimize big picture mode to see the desktop like you can with the steam link? That would be a nice way to play some of the harder to run emulators through the firestick.

App and connection works very well, but I get stutter every few seconds on my Fire TV Stick 4k (old model). I guess than CPU is a bit weak for remote play video decoding.

not working 2020. Says I have no app capable of opening the APK. I tried March 26 and april 4th versions.
It works because the fire stick can't recognize the more recent .apkm files apk mirror uses, but it can with the older .apk ones.
Supposedly there's a way to do it with the modern .apkm ones by using a 'to firestick' app with an android phone/tablet, but I couldn't figure it out.

Still works in 2019^^ but my TV is horrible slow even on gaming settings :( about 400-600ms delay unplayable just for watching like VR games so you can laugh at the others failur^^

Steamlink will not run smooth on early Firestick models. I have only had success on the gen 2 two firestick and fire tv.

What about from gaming pc to laptop, laptop to chromecast? Do I have to log on with Steam? My games are cracked.
You just need the steam program. Add all the non steam games to the library. Leave your main gaming rig on still signed into steam. Turn on second PC and log in with same account. On your second PC all your games will say stream. Turn on big picture mode and it's guaranteed to get controller support for non steam games.

I can't seem to get any of my controllers to work fully (Pro controller, PS4, Xbox one, sn30 pro+) some of the buttons work, and others do not. Also in 3rd party games (that are not part of steam) the controller does not work at all...
