- Dear friends, I hope you are well ! Today’s video is very special to me as we’re doing for the first time a video project with all my super talented students of the @cnsmdlyon and my dear colleague Franck Amet. We chose to play Candide Overture by Leonard Bernstein, perfect piece for spreading joy and smile all over the world in these troubled times !
After a successful first concert performance on January 26, 1957, by the New York Philharmonic under the composer's baton, this overture quickly became popular and was performed by nearly 100 other orchestras within the next two years. Since that time, it has become one of the most frequently performed orchestral compositions by a 20th century American composer.
With Franck AMET (Bb clarinet), Victor BOURHIS (bass clarinet), Maxime CONOIR (Eb clarinet), Diogo FALCÃO (Bb clarinet), Théo FUHRER (Bb clarinet), Ferran GARCERÀ PERELLÓ, Tomomi INOUE (Bb clarinet), Li Ling LEE (Bb clarinet), Stasys MAKSTUTIS (Bb clarinet), Sang Jin PARK (Bb clarinet), Mikel ZUGARRAMURDI LASA (Bb clarinet) and Gwendoline CONOIR as the unexpected and talented flutist 😊👏🏻✨
STAY SAFE ! 💖
No extra applause for the magical Eb clarinet player? Bravissimo for his epic solos!
“To achieve great things, two things are needed: a plan and not quite enough time.”
― Leonard Bernstein
I didn’t know this quote, and I love it 😁 thank you so much !
Wonderful performance.
My mother was a member of the chorus one summer at Tanglewood under the baton of "Lenny" as the orchestra called out when he stepped on stage for a rehearsal.
Years ago the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra had programmed a Bernstein Festival with Mr. Bernstein in attendance. I was a member of the symphony Chorus at the time so I was able to see him in the box seats (a very short man).
Just a little hint of Maestro Valery Gergiev conducting with a stereo toothpick! Fabulous work Nicolas!
You saw it 😁 incredible conductor by the way! Thank you!!!
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 Oh yeah! :D I love his style. I also admire Yuri Simonov and, of course, my countryman, who loved France and even died there, Sergiu Celibidache.
The “Why a flute” was so perfect because i wasn’t looking at the video, and when i heard the flute, i asked to my self “why a flute?”, and the screen said the same. You are a music magician!
-bravo from TX
Hahaha, then we had the same reaction when my student sent me his recording 😂
Wow, your editing skills are amazing and you have a ton of amazing students and performers!
Thank you so much, they will be happy to hear that :-))
@@nicolasbaldeyrou1 Hello from Vilnius. I am curious about your classes.... how to possibly arrange. I noticed Stasys Makstutis is a student. My son, Mykolas Kuan Keys, age 14, is doing VERY well at Ciurlionis Music School in Vilnius, and just placed 2nd place in the Latvian Riga MednisCompetition. We, his parents, are poets with little talent in music, and so he has come a long way... could you send me the particulars on how "Myki" might take lessons from You. Best regards, Kerry Kerry Shawn Keys

@@kerrykeys3839 I'd suggest to go to the website of the conservatory he teaches at (CNSMD) and look for his contact info.
.......surreal..............
I'm 73 and had a clarinet/sax studio for forty years.
.......there are no words........
Thank you so much Chris ! I’m very lucky with such students for sure !
Thanks for the reminder to go practice. I was trying to avoid it but you’ve given me no choice now! xD
Demi Muse 😂😂 I’m proud of that 😁👍🏻💪🏻
Nicolas Baldeyrou My concert band was learning this before everything was shut down and the rest of the year got cancelled. I’ve mostly been playing the lyrical or pop pieces we were learning and pushing this aside. With this video popping up, I could hide from it no more! Hearing how good this sounds, and having the means to achieve that, but choosing not to would just be foolish. Playing clarinet might make me a fool, but that doesn’t mean I play it foolishly! So once again, thank you for the awesome motivation!

Sorry but the face of maestro when flute appears is the best! 😂😂😂😂😂 " flute? for what?!" Kkkkkkkkkk
My best regards! Very Nice!!
Violinist here and I can’t say enough as to how much I loved this!!! I have the mental image of Bernstein iconically directing the NY Phil to this overture as the video played. That e flat clarinetist going into piccolo register..what?? 😱 And thank you for the laughs too: bass clarinet just chilling in bed, random guy with cat and mask.. lol. Great production!
Thank you so much ! I truly appreciate 😊✨🙏
I love that you actually took the time to put the flat sign instead of just writing Bb Clarinette in the credits!
Everything is in the details ;-))
As a former clarinet player, this brought me a lot of joy today!
Rob Wargo thank you Rob 🙏😊✨
Rob Wargo thank you Rob ! 🙏😊✨
No such thing as a former clarinettist; only a lapsed one. 🤗🎶
You totally surpassed TwoSetViolin guys greatest expectations by giving clarinet lessons ti Li(ng) Ling herself. Fabulous!
😂😂😂
This brought such a smile to my face today, thank you. Extra kudos to the Eb clarinet player for his brilliant tone and intonation!!!!
GLORIOUS performance!!!
Coached several civic youth high-school honors ww sections on this work back in the day, BUT not at these tempos! Wow!
If you've never heard the opera, see if you can find the Bernstein's New York Philharmonic performance on-line.
AMAZING..........
Delightful. Beautiful playing. Special praise goes to the e-flat clarinet player👏👏. As a former orchestral clarinetist, I praise you very talented players (and especially your teacher). You bring me great joy and fill my heart with happiness. Bless you all for making an old man very happy.
The Gergiev toothpick makes an appearance! Wonderful performance.
Thank you so much !
Superbe!!! Bravo, bravo, bravo!!!
ともみさん!?
日本人の方もいる〜☺️☺️
みなさんClarinetらしい綺麗な音、素晴らしいです
Great ! Very nice arrangement. I got the image of Bernstein conducting this in my mind. And I suspect so did you..... the eyebrows on the cymbalbeats is something he also did.
I watched you play Carmen Fantaisie on Vandoren's channel, and ever since then, I've been in awe of your clarinet ability. I also love how you are so engaged with the community, something that not a lot of people do. Thanks for all you do.
~a fellow high school clarinetist
Bach lives on. How can anyone listen to this without crying?
This looks like so much fun. Not only do they sound good, the players look like they had fun
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! You are happiness makers!! Just wonderful. Keep bringing the world together and keep 'em coming. With great big hugs, from a fan in Virginia, U.S.
I actually clapped after your performance. Like, so good.
This deserves wayyyyy more views. Bravissimo!
What a great video! I love how it started with the conductor and the clarinets, but then a few other instruments trickled in. Great effects are always key. You're all very talented, and I was impressed! I started conducting along with the melody, because I just love this piece so much. Great job, and well wishes!
Spectacular!!!!!!!! Amazing musicianship and an incredible production! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Stay safe!

Great video! I really enjoyed it. Thank you!!
Thank you so much, happy to hear that 😊
Bravo! And the Eb is even in tune! I remember colleagues singing my praise of my Eb clarinet playing saying how well in tune I play! Gigliotti response was , ‘Playing Eb in tune is the first step to a good player’
Thank you again John ! I think Gigliotti was completely right, playing in tune, smoothly, and being to able to blend with such a difficult instrument is clearly showing that you achieved something 😁
Bravissimi! Complimenti!!!
Mille mercis ☺️
Incredible playing and great arrangement! Fantastic E-flat player! Is it possible to send a copy of your arrangement? I Would love to play it with my colleagues!
