  • Step by step instructions on how to patch holes on an Advanced Elements AdvancedFrame Inflatable Kayak. One was a leak along the seam of one of the main chambers and the other was a small tear on the hull. Both repairs were done using the patch kit that originally came with the kayak.
I've had this kayak for over 9 years and this is the first time I've had to do any repairs.

It’s great that you can buy a new tube at a reasonable price - pretty much impossible to repair the seams, I think. 9 years service is great.
How do you find drying out the kayak? I’m looking at getting the convertible elite with the DS floor, but my only concern is what read about drying. I’d appreciate your knowledge.

If you have the time and the space then drying them out isn't a problem. When I first bought the kayak I was in an apartment with a small carport, so it was hard to break it down to properly air dry. I would towel it off, let it air dry crumbled up, and it would develop some mold. But nothing that wouldn't come off with some water and mild soap. Now that I have more space I can remove the floor, fully unzip the top, pull out the main tubes, hit it with some fresh water , towel it off, and then let it air dry. Since then I haven't experienced any mold issues.
Interested to hear how the DS floor is if you pick it up. Especially interested to hear if any mold develops between it and the kayak shell since they claim you don't have to remove it once installed. I have the backbone for mine, but there is a lot of break down with that and the removable floor.

I just had a third tube fail with a pin hole at the seam. AE has sent me 2 tubes under warranty already. I wonder if this model went to market too soon...

Wow that's crazy. I have only had one tube fail and that was after years of use. How long have you had yours?

Hope your repairs hold up for you. Very curious to see how long the repairs last. Would be great if we can get an update at a future time.

The repair on the tube only held up for about a month. After speaking with a rep from Advanced Elements I purchased a new inner tube for about $80. Sounded like once the tube starts to leak it's just time to replace. They shipped it quickly and it was easy to swap out.
The patch on the shell is still going strong.

@@UnprofessionalOutdoors I am a diy kinda guy but I think I will do the same and contact the Advanced Elements reps for a replacement. The customer response team seem to be very helpful. Thanks for the feedback!

@@UnprofessionalOutdoors Good to know the price of the inner tube is reasonable. I've got an AE1012 that's about ten years old. The tube holds air fine, but won't last forever.

@@Inkling777 yeah not too pricey and pretty straightforward to swap.
