I've watched several reviews of this grill and yours was the only one that actually showed the function of the ash dump lever. And I can't believe you showed a Weber rotisserie ring in place on the grill - exactly the info I was looking for!! Really nice review - lots of useful info - well done!
I have concerns about grease management and clean up, but I can shake the feeling they just made the perfect dedicated pizza oven for people who want a cheaper & easier alternative to the big wood burning pits. It almost feels like that's what they had in mind...good for RECTEQ! Excellent review as usual, Tom. Thank you. Can't wait to see the new videos with this.
Thanks for watching Justin! Already did Steak! Gonna try Pizza next and Steak again this time on the cast iron diffuser! You are correct on grease management, however flipping over the heat diffuser and adding a disposable aluminum tray should work and I will be trying on a pork butt. Appreciate you stopping by! Enjoy your Holidays!
If you have a recteq like I do (1250), get the green mount grill pizza attachment. Fits & Works perfectly and is only $150. I can easily get to 700 - 800 which hot enough for a pizza.
Important thing to remember when using the optical thermometer. They measure in a cone shape that gets larger the farther away you get from the target. It is possible that you could be reading some of the surrounding area in these measurements. The diffuser below is probably much hotter. I have the last model 380 and it routinely gets over 800F in riot mode. I love that thing for searing steaks. Great job on the review!
Tom, I have the original Bullseye. The compatibility with so many aftermarket Weber 22” accessories is so useful, that makes this pellet smoker so versatile. I can remove the heat deflector, replace that with a grate and run lump if I want. I can, and have, added a compatible rotisserie for whole chickens. I can add a Santa Maria style grate system. I don’t really have a cooking need to 900+F so I will stick with the original I have. The only deficit is that the PID controller on the original doesn’t connect over WiFi. So I am using a Fireboard to monitor both the ambient and the cooking meat. The Recteq community is vibrant and supportive. I recommend that folks check out all the cooking content that they freely publish on UA-cam. That alone has amazing value!
My original Bulls-Eye can consistently make 749 in riot mode. RT sells the Bulls-Eye line as their "everyday grill". That is how it is discussed at the RT Academy. I truly like my Bulls-Eye. I am blessed by the fact that I am only five miles from RT-HQ. People are amazing, and the Customer Service is second to none. You do need to keep the side vents cleaned, to let it breathe. You'll love it.
You live 5 miles away and I live 4.7 miles away from the HQ. I have owned 4 RT grills so far. Narrowed it down to 3 grills. But I will be damned, if the new release grills are what I think they are, I will be back 4.
I have the $399 bullseye and love it and I definitely am impressed with this one!!! Will I purchase one……not sure yet…..new technology can sometimes need tweaking…..I will see how things go with this one. Thanks Tom for the review!
The quality of Recteq grills seems to be better than most other brands in the sub $1000 range. I am actually surprised this price is that low with all that stainless steel construction. Can’t wait for the steak sear and pizza cooks on this grill.
Just got one a few days ago. So far, I like it. FedEx damaged it of course, so working on getting that resolved. Impressive smoke in Lo mode, gets up to temp very quick from start up. I think it will be great for frequent/quicker type cooks when I don't wanna fire up the gravity. Pizza potential seems excellent too.
The bulls-eye is a perfect everyday grill. I do recommend a few things. 1. would be making sure the vents are clean. that has already been hit on. 2. would be to do a burn off after any greasy cook or a few long cooks. 3. Please do not do the burn off under cover. Make sure it is in the middle of your yard if possible. 4. Take good care of that heat deflector. My original is rusting out and I ma in the market for anyone getting rid of theirs. I have talked with the RT folks and they are not looking to sell it as a part anytime soon. Hoping that changes. Great video, kept my attention.
Your videos are great and you have really been pumping them out! My big question would be cleanup. I would think this would be a good alternative to use as a regular grill when you want to do some burgers, brats etc, but still have the ability to use as a smoker when needed. I have been looking at a grill/smoker combo to replace my gas grill and use as a companion to my pit boss, but this looks like a better option????
I think the original Bullseye is the best pellet grill under $500. This one here I wasn’t impressed with for the price. $600 I might change my mind for the upgraded cart and controller.
I'm torn between this and the Recteq DECK BOSS 590. I've never owned/used a smoker in my life. Both seem really good... I can't for the life of me with their current sale decide which to get. The DECK BOSS 590 is $70 more from the V380x bullseye.
Good video and interesting grill. I've never had a pellet grill due to the 450-500 temp limits. I probably won't be converting (I have an Akorn Auto and MB560) but good to know there are pellet grills that can get really hot and sear without special grates.
I like many things about that grill, but the price kills my interest. I have a B380 that is just over a year old. I love everything about it now that I dropped it into a stainless steel Weber Performer frame. It gets to 749 degrees which is hotter than I will ever need. The pellet dump feature would be nice, but not $450 nicer than what I paid.
I would like to see you do a review on the Oklahoma joe pellet grill. I was looking at one and it’s a pretty bad ass looking grill. Keep on making videos about pellet grills I like them and so does my wife she can use it when I’m not at home.

It was good for pork buts, I loved it for burgers but my weber can do all of that and stay at 225.
@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ thanks for the reply! I feel like I could just finish over lump Charcoal if it's not hot enough. Comparing a Weber Smokey Joe vs finishing on the RT380X...which one do you think would be better for tritip and steak? Those are the main things I would cook.

Hey Tom! I've been waiting for this one and to see what material they would use for the heat deflector. The original was a piece of junk carbon steel that would rust terribly. The rust would flake off in sheets when you would bang on it. 👎 I thought they may use Stainless, but that would have taken the price of the unit up to $1,000.00. I have a second house though with no gas supply and I would love some kind of an all-in-one. This seems to be the best choice to both smoke and grill. I will probably buy one shortly
Hey Tom, I am new to this smoker stuff and don't know much yet. Why on earth would anyone want to take a grill up to 1000 degrees... Other than bragging rights I guess but what's the purpose of getting that high?
Rec Tec is supposed to make a good product. The question revolves around their customer service. I'm big on customer service, I have a Camp Chef I've made four calls to them to follow up on an emailI sent three days ago. No response from Camp Chef. Does Rec Tec treat their customers that way?
I have the 380 and honestly don't love it. The build quality (on mine) is pretty crappy. I have another Recteq, a more typical smoker design that I enjoy soo much that I didn't hesitate to buy the 380. But for me, I prefer good ol' charcoal for grilling. I think this one is too expensive for what it, and I also wish the fire pot was offset to one side to create two zones, a searing zone and one for when things get a bit intense and you need to back the protein off direct flame. So I'm passing on this one.
$800 for a thin and flimsy POS. No reason whatsoever this thing should cost as much as a Weber gas grill that can also get up to the same temp, but with much more heavy duty materials and a 10yr warranty. I have multiple friends with these bullseyes and you can cook some good food on them, but the price to quality ratio isn’t there. Sorry, I have nothing against recteq, but everyone I know that has had one had problems. Customer service seems to be good, good thing because you will need it.
I have several Weber grills and you are correct it can get up to temp but my B380 is all about convenience for me, I can control the temp from anywhere without dealing with adjustments, ever. The stainless will outlast the mild powder coated steel in any of my weber grills, most weber attachments directly fit it as well, the only con is the price but I've spent money on worthless things, this wasn't one of them, cheers 🍻
I don't get the point of having your pellet grill go to a thousand degrees as if that's something that pellet grill should do anyway. Rec tec just came out with a brand new grill that does not have a smoke box like the new camp chef does, this is a fail.

Thanks for Watching John! I’ve had one question and they responded by email within 24 hrs
It's th perfect temp for a pizza 🍕
Thanks for Watching Pete! Agreed!
Where did you get your temp gauge on the lid?
Thanks for Watching Jeff! Amazon, but I wouldn’t recommend it, the seal leaked on the first high heat cook
Is it just me or is it discolored after running that hot?
Thanks for Watching Ed! Seasoned…

Thank you
I have the 380 and honestly don't love it.

I see a pizza video coming
Thanks for Watching Gerald! You are correct!
well youve convinced me to spend money now how to convince my wife
Lol! Good luck with that! Thanks for Watching
Price nearly doubled as well.
Wow! Thanks for watching
Where’s the smoke?
Nice, but I wouldn’t spend that much on it.
Thanks for Watching Steven! Appreciate the feedback
My question is who cooks food at 1000° your food would burn to a crisp
Thanks for Watching Derrick! Seared steak is awesome at 1000
WHY... is this so EXPENSIVE... $800. WHY???
That's what Recteq is charging you can email them that question

BAHAHAHA
$800 for a thin and flimsy POS. No reason whatsoever this thing should cost as much as a Weber gas grill that can also get up to the same temp, but with much more heavy duty materials and a 10yr warranty. I have multiple friends with these bullseyes and you can cook some good food on them, but the price to quality ratio isn’t there. Sorry, I have nothing against recteq, but everyone I know that has had one had problems. Customer service seems to be good, good thing because you will need it.
Thanks for Watching Steven! Wow!
