    I started using PC power supplies after I watched your video about using a Wii power supply. I use the very same power supply as the one in this video on one of my rigs. The good thing about using a PC power supply is that they usually already have some sort of noise suppression inside . I did the same as you and put an on/off switch on the black and green wires. Great video, thanks, Johnny.

      That’s cool buddy!
      I assumed that the PC power supply had some sort of noise suppression because of computer systems using a frequency clock.
      But it wasn’t quite able to tell if pulse width modulation would cause more problems with CB radio because of the antenna wanting to pick up 27mhz
      And I’ve heard that square waves or saw waves are full of mixed frequencies that could be picked up by the antenna jack
      It also seemed to help more as I kept the power supply away from the antenna jack
      But some of that high frequency electromagnetic radiation may be making its way down the power cables too

    Awesome video Johnny!!!😎I grew up tinckering with electronic stuff!! Radios, breadboards, guitar amps and such,, lots 😂fun and learned a lot about mr. Ohms law🤓.. again thanks for responding with regards to your intro to cb radio 📻 a little while back. This pay week i will be ordering the uniden 78, with antenna and power/12v. Power point plug for the truck 🛻!! .. I’ll let you know how it goes 😎thanks again buddy!!!

      I remember you!
      No problem my friend I hope you have a great time with it, and if you really enjoy it maybe you would like to get into ham radio as well ☺️
      I have a feeling you’ll have a good time if you enjoy electronics 🤞

    Very interesting.
    A while back the guy at the computer repair place was going to give me one of those supplies to mess with and I didnt take it I figured I would electrocute myself or burn down the house. Maybe I'll try and rig one of those up.

      Get one out of any scrapped computer.

      Oh yeah it’s a fun thing to play around with. As long as you’re careful you should be fine, and you can use them to power all kinds of things ☺️
      As long as you have an old computer laying around or something like that you should have access to a high current power supply. 😎

    To get rid of the noise run a ground wire from the cabinet of the radio to earth. Will help ALOT i promise

    You forgot to let out the magic smoke! 🤣🤣🤣 As you found out, the main problem is noise from switch made power supplies, however, they are a lot better than some power supplies I have seen you using in the past. Shame they didn't have adjustments inside to take it up to 13.8Vdc 😐

    • @JohnnyNJones
      @JohnnyNJones  Рік тому +2

      Yeah there was no internal adjustments that I could see to change the voltage, maybe I’ll look again just to be sure 👍
      I figure I’m going to let my dad use it because he’s always messing with motors and finding new things at the flea market to test out ☺️

      @@JohnnyNJones It's a fixed output voltage, I have yet to find one with an adjuster. Changing it would mean a high level of knowledge of electronics. It is all quite complicated. I will not touch them, due to the way they work and risk to life!

    • @JohnnyNJones
      @JohnnyNJones  Рік тому +1

      @@BoB4jjjjs yeah that’s why I assumed I couldn’t adjust it in the first place.
      I suppose you could manipulate the windings but as you said I don’t feel comfortable doing that either and I don’t have enough knowledge to do it safely.

      @@JohnnyNJones Maybe as simple as a resistor change to another value. However, I have never studied then, mostly due to the high frequency they tend to run at, nasty! Give you a real nasty shock. I'll just leave that to the designers. I don't know of anyone that has altered them, so I would stay well away from them!

      @JohnnyNJones  Рік тому +1

      @@BoB4jjjjs I have a feeling that’s a very wise opinion. I don’t think I’ll go mucking about with them until I know more 👍
