  • 2023- these are no longer made, but there are similar Ibanez models available. These are hollowbody guitars, I got that wrong on the video.
    This is a shootout between the Ibanez Archtops AJV95 aprx $700 (w/ flats-from the factory) and AF75G aprx $500 ( w/round wounds from the factory). Regarding the price difference-that might just be for the antiquing on the Amber guitar. Can you hear the difference and which do you like best overall? You can hear more of the Ibanez AKJV95 Artcore Expressionist Vintage Series Electric Guitar Dark Amber Low Gloss in this video • I Love Paris by Cole P...
    I would like to clarify that shops online state the AF75G is a full hollow body, but I believe I am still correct in stating there is some wood reinforcing going on under or near the pickups.

    For the rhythm guitar on the left channel, I backed off the volume on the front pickup to 8 to give it a more 'Freddie Green' sound and then all the way up for the lead line part of the right channel. I was interested in a side by side of these guitars and thus created this video for my own entertainment and to help anyone in the market for an Ibanez Hollowbody. They are both great instruments and I honestly prefer their tone to some vintage archtops I have played. A great bang for your buck! The AF75G is the more versatile guitar in my opinion and is a great overall ax. For a straight-ahead Jazz I do prefer the AJV95. One thing I did leave off the video was the tone controls on these guitars. They work great and can take off the edge without dulling the tone-super functional! I think a rock-oriented shootout would be interesting between the two guitars using the bridge pickups, although the AJV95 would need to get round wounds. Regarding the body size, they are not the giant size width of some Gibsons and perhaps benefit from less of a feedback issue due to that.

    I've got an Ibanez archtop from the Artcore series. Their experience with acoustic guitars does show through, I think. Excellent buy second hand - super student guitar.

    Nice sound, I didn't notice a significant difference between the 2. I have the AG75. I had a rattle, more significant on the G string and highly significant on the bridge pickup, I had a pocket square (type of handkerchief ) that I rolled up and put under the tailpiece. Thanx for the video, I enjoyed the playing. I play a 10 string classical, so neck width is something to get used too.

    I've owned both of these guitars also. I sold them because they were too large under my arm. But I think they're great. I also agree that the AKJ has a slightly better tone for jazz than the AF7 because of its arched Spruce top. But, both are nice guitars! Thanks for video.

    Thanks for this video! I have an AF75TDG and am thinking of putting flatwounds on. I like the sound of both but agree that the AFJ95 sounds slightly sweeter. You have a nice, gentle spirit, which i appreciate.

      I have a 75 in sunburst (left hand) and after a little experimentation with strings, Ibhave settled on Ibanez’ own brand strings specific for archtops. Top 3 plain and light, bottom 3 heavier, down to 50. They get a lot more from the guitar, but I am going to change the top 3 to a heavier size and change the G third to a wire wound as the frets are quite fat and I am getting a slightly sharp note out of the light string.

    Did you have any problems with the frets by any chance? I just purchased mines from zzsounds and it seems the frets have some sharp edges and/or the frets themselves were a little rough, surprisingly compared to my art core I bought years ago that’s smooth. I’m a little paranoid because I think some of these were not only China made but kinda like 4th party made lol. Trying to see if I got a decent one

      Glen Crayton I didn’t have any fret issues on mine. I would say if you can return the guitar. Sorry to hear you had that issue and thanks for your comments and questions!

      very, very, very rare on Ibanzes guitar. You should have had returned it. It is that simple.

    the black sounds louder, do they have the same string gauge? are you using flatwounds on both?

    • @joeseditamusic
      @joeseditamusic  Рік тому

      The black one had round wounds while the other had flats, so definitely not an exact comparison as far as the wound strings go. Same pickups, different wood on the bodies but close in tone. Thanks!

    Honestly, it's difficult to hear the different nuances between the two. Pretty strange .What kind of neck is the AJV95? baseball bat type, or flatter, maybe?

      Lothar Roberts Hi Lothar! The Ajv95 has a bigger neck but it’s very comfortable. I did leave out in the video that the Af75g neck is thin almost like shredder guitar. In regards to tone, yes they are similar. One important thing to note is that having a block of wood under the pickups helps with feedback so you can play in a louder setting. They are both warm sounding guitars so maybe they way you will use this kind of guitar should be a factor. Thanks for the comments!

      @@joeseditamusic Thanks for the info! I'm keen on the AJV as long as the neck is comfortable for my small, thin fingers. I had an Epi 175, which was a nice enough neck, and I also had an Ibanez Ag85(?) that had a very round neck that wasn't for me at all. Just not sure.
