Now that they're doing Mighty Nein as a show, giving us hope that even more Critical Role content will be adapted, I just gotta say; if Calamity is ever animated I will lose my fucking mind. This was one of the most engaging and emotional stories I've ever read or watched.
Only thing that weirded me out was this was a former pirate captain, head of a mercantile group, turning out so noble at the end. Great to watch, but feels a bit like whiplash
@@dominikgose2609 A former pirate captain and head of a mercantile group who came from nothing. This guy KNOWS that gold's a resource by which mortaldom climbs because HE USED IT TO CLIMB.
@@dominikgose2609i remember Lou talks about this in the Calamity Wrap Up The main turning point of this is when Laerynn tries to destroy the Tree of Names, and he remembers the prophecy. 2 minutes in I HAVE to praise Lou's respect of personal space, Air petting Marisha's arm as her ring is shattered and damages her real bad. And I also love how COMFORTABLE Marisha is with her crew and with the people at the table that you physically see her raise her shoulder so that Lou's makes a moment of contact with her arm. Just Golden moments that we see who these people truly are.
and later she jumps into his arms when travis crits! it made me so happy. in general they both stand up a lot to look at the board (or to flip the bird to brennan) from a good angle. its so nice to see people from different groups just connect so well and be comfortable with eachother
Brennan has such a mastery over words. 3:38 could be said as simply as " Your holy sword is corroded by the presence of pure evil." And that's still an insanely cool concept. But his description is a whole story within itself, driven home by the perfectly constructed: "Your sword is unmade and ruined in the presence of what now comes."
To add to that: I figured that the sword was used/unmade because it's used in the spell to bring Asmodeus from his realm (sort of similar to a key used in planeshift spells)
Spoilers for Fantasy High This is the second time Lou has killed a pirate that he trusted more than anything, by stabbing them in the heart in the final moments of his arc
Can we talk about the absolute joy everyone experienced in this playthrough? It was an absolutely devastating story, filled with death and destruction, but the player exude a sense of joy whenever their characters do incredible things, or make impossible choices, or take the more terrible path personally in order to eke just a little more victory out of the jaws of defeat. And Brendan! A good example is around 41 minutes when Sam's character is choosing between escaping to the Feywild or remaining. His face is intense with just as much anticipation as anyone else at the table as he is riveted on Sam's expression, and when Sam uses gift of gab and chooses to stay, despite it meaning the doom of his character, you can see Brennan's eyes and face light up with sheer delight, and a slight smile cross his face, even as he describes the terrible consequences to come. He *loved* being in that moment. I would be so interested to know if his love is based on watching the player create an unforgettable moment with just a few quiet words, or watching the player character choose his love over his life - maybe it's a bit of both, but lord, I wish they'd done a deeper sit down chat with everyone involved in Calamity, I could have listened to them going on for *hours* about the nitty gritty details, the decisions, the changes, the surprises, their emotional journeys over their own and each other's choices and fates... Thank you so much for the edits of these, astro. They're *so* well done! It's hard to set aside the time to go back and revisit these in whole when I want to relive some of the most amazing moments, and you've given us a very hefty but still quicker access to that option. (I would say you've given us edits that are easier to put on in the background and listen while doing other work but we all know that's a lie, and that all of us *start* to do other things while listening, but spend more time tabbing back into the UA-cam tab and watching everyone's reactions along with listening to the story unfold!)
Thank you so much for creating this incredible compilation! Episode 4 was packed with so many important and emotional moments and you've cut them together beautifully.
It is because of your compilations that I've succeeded in bringing a good chunk of people over into CR, because they were intrigued enough to check out an episode before falling down the rabbit hole. You do beautiful work and your edits help me when I need a recap here and there - thank you so much ♥
Thank you so much for these. EXU:C is by far my favorite Critical Role event, ever (granted I missed campaign 1 and 2, but I've since watched the majority of 1 and seen highlights of 2) and this compilation you've put together brought back all the feelings I felt the first time around. Emotionally devastating and inspiring. Wonderful, incredible job you've done here.
I truly appreciate all the compilations you make, but I'm touched by the effort and attention that went into this one especially. Thank you so much for making this 💗
watching these compilations a few weeks after finishing FHSY (and while currently watching campaign 2, and having seen Luis in LABN and Aabria in ACOFAF) makes me realize that I need to rewatch EXUC in full now that I know the cast and can appreciate them fully. This was the second EVER D&D actualplay I watched after The Unsleeping City Chapter 1, so I only knew Brennan and Lou.
Thank you for this!!! Thank you so much, what a labor of love. I've been wanting to experience this story but I just can't do the full episodes with my crazy life. I am so grateful that you put these moments together and I can't wait to go back through and watch it all again.
It was an honour to watch EXU:C live... Rewatching this brought back the memories of how it was seeing it all happen. Thank you for making these compilations, it's absolutely amazing!
I am in awe of how masterfully woven this tale was. To the storyteller I can only say that he is a worthy inheritor of the gift Homer passed on around the agora several millennia ago. 😔

It absolutely deserves it! One of the best story I've ever experienced. I would love to see the people who handled Arcane take on the adaptation
Since it's less amount of content to adapt they could probably experiment with the animation a bit more too, it would be absolutely amazing 😍😍

great edit. calamity is the best oneshot/miniseries CR has ever produced.
As a parent, those scenes with Cerrit and his children absolutely broke me.
Every time. Brennan’s acting is phenomenal
The final shot of Brennan in the front and the symmetry of the cast in the back... *chef's kiss*
