Neurals Nolly, Gojira, and Omega are all awesome if you want high gain plug-ins, Line 6 has helix native as well that's sick, hardware there's a huge amount of amps and pedals
^THIS^
dont forget the nameless plugin, that thing fucking rips for the more british gain stuff
@@jim7300 That's the one i forgot the name of hahahaha prefer the others personally but nameless is awesome too
Just snagged the Neurals Nolly, have not heard of the other ones. I just bought a guitar and figured plug in would be the way to go for a beginner. I’ll have to check the others out that you’ve mentioned
anything free? broke here lolz
you are such a blessing to the BM community, Thank you dev.
thanks man
Nicely done. Very good point about how a certain tone -- so long as it's heavy enough -- can be applied across genres. With your music, if anything, I like that heavier Death Metal aspect to the tone; delivers a formidable foundation to the work, be it fast, or something more contemplative and atmospheric.
Exactly
I almost bought a 1980’s 200W randall head and 4x12 last week for a really cheap price. I didn‘t. I think if i like the sound i don‘t care if listeners like it. But still i thought it‘s maybe too nostalgic. I have a fishman fluence modern, i‘ll try the difference once i change the strings soom to compare it to the EMG81
Would it work with an Engl Ironball 20w?
Engls are always good
I’m not a pro musician so I go with Katana and it’s just fine for me. It’s all about execution as you say mate!
Ik it’s unnecessary but I’d really like to experiment with the early 90s sound and see which one suits best for me. I love the Old Darkthrone sound that im trying to create that sound. Just to experiment with it. I’m also looking for a way to create a tone/sound that’s heavy and atmospheric at the same time
it's definitely fun to mess around with old gear
@@DevGohil lmao I spent past 2 hours trying to make a LoFi sound on my GT1 processor effects pedal
I got a 100w marshall valvestate combo with a sd1 boosting into a ds1 into the clean channel and I love it!
Not a fan of digital amp sims. I love IR plugins though. I've been using JTW's v30 IR pack with a Torpedo load box and a real tube amp, and the tones I can get are damn good. Plus it's a million times easier and less trouble if your circumstances are restrictive and you can't just walk into an insulated studio whenever you want. I've got a Marshall DSL and a Laney Ironheart atm, two really good value Chinese-made high gain amps. There are plenty of others. You don't need a big amp for recording, they're fun to play but if anything excess volume can be a hindrance. 15-30w is usually ideal, less can sound thin and more is overkill.
dev, got a modded vh ss150 clear boosted what kind of single mono speaker should be used? standard down tuned. just getting one for now as my all round purpose speaker, also have bareknuckle aftermath custom humbucker no controls Can an eminence CV75 be used with this and good results?
Shouldn’t have any issues, try what you can
@@DevGohil ok, i was afraid so i am looking at celestions now, a weber cvlt series, and wgs gb and reaper
Hi Dev! first of all thanks for your channel.
One question: I am thinking of buying a Dean V select, I already had another Dean when I started playing a long time ago (the low-end Mustaine sig) and the truth was, it was a good guitar for the money. What do you think of Dean's V select? And how much did they cost approximately? I've read all kinds of opinions but you, as a Dean user, can probably give a good answer.
All the best.
(Edit: sorry for the "translator" mistakes!)
My name is Dev
I'd say, go for the Dean Vengeance series, they're better specced. The select series these days are good, yet i have a feeling the vengeance will be the best Dean to buy, before getting to USA custom shop levels.
@@DevGohil sorry, I know!! It was a "translator" mistake! 😁
Thanks! I will check it out
That engl fireball sounds killer. Great choice.
The engl sounds sick! Death to 90's ear destroying tone
Hi Dev. I Use Vlavestate, can't really get enough of it. I play it even more than HT40 that I also have. You're a good man. Hail!
Those two amps of yours sound amazing together in a mix, glad you’re enjoying the content
@@DevGohil Haha, like reading my mind what I intent to do! Keep on the good work!
If you like a good amount of reverb the neural dsp plini has the best reverb out of all of them in my opinion, also the fortin cali is also another great option for more aggressive tones. Really any of them but the Cory Wong archetype would be great, and even that one if you put a tube screamer plugin before it then you’re fine. I Frankenstein the effects from the plini onto the Cali and you get amazing tones.
Can I achive a good Sound with a Boss Katana 50 mk2 ?
yes, great amp
Thank you do you have some Tipps for it maybe ?
@@lone_wolf6666 bass at 11 o clock, treble and mids around 2/3 o clock
Thank you very much !
Dev you should try a thr10x. I replaced my boss katana with it and it is insane how good it is.
Would love to try
This type of content is so needed! Thank you!
thanks man!
Hello Dev, I want to know if the orange crush 20 is good. Love ur vids
Hey thanks man, never used a crush 20 so not sure
What was that burner little riff at 4:28??? 🤘🤘🤘 is that a song of yours or anyones ? Or just jamming out … ?
Jamming my g
big tube amp
He likes those dean guitars
Hey man, great stuff as always... What's the exact model of that Blackstar?
Series one 200
Great Riffs 🎸
Dev could you pls make a video on how to play in the style of harakiri for the sky? Or post black metal in general? That would be amazing.
that style isn't a specialty of mine, I can go over certain riffs potentially
@@DevGohil I'd love that honestly.
I use a Bugera Trirec and it sounds awesome, I swapped out the Bugera tubes stuck some EL34's & I really do get the tone I was looking for, sticking an Airis Savage Drive in front of it was like a marriage made in Hell.
Nice, would love to hear it
@@DevGohil I've not done videos for ages but now we are getting rehearsal time I'll knock a video together next time we are in there. I almost sold the Bugera but investing in the tubes made a huge difference.
How did you dial in your Engl? Mine Sounds pretty wooly, cant tell if its my Fingers, Gear or the EMI noise im getting due to living close to powerlines
As little gain as possible, bass just under halfway, middle and treble just over halfway, presence at like 7
@@DevGohil Ur awesome, thanks
I just bought the boss katana 100 mkII is it ok for bm ?
Yes
You should listen to gimp bm! Its very good quality black metal
Marshall amps are good to play bm?
Yeah, go for JCM/JVM/DSL
@@DevGohil thank you Dev.
@@DevGohil the marshall code 50 is good too?
@@vrildom never used one so not sure
@@DevGohil Ok bro. I have another question: do you recommend the Marshall DSL20HR or DSL20CR?
What settings do you suggest for BM?
Depends on your preference, I go for a mid heavy sound
And every amp is different
Get a Electro-Harmonix 50-MIG....Pedal friendly and the cheapest tube amp head available new....For recording(I was recommended this the other day myself)Two Note Torpedo Captor X and you can DI any tube amp,I hope to get one very soon,$600.00.
the Captor X is a good buy if you're recording, the 50-mig...nah. I can get a JCM for less money on the used market. sounds MUCH better
@@DevGohil Cool...I got the mig for my pedals....I got a Fender twin reverb which sounds stellar with pedals but it is either loud or too damn loud, need a volume pedal for it....My Dual rec and Ampeg VL503 Are my babies.
The captor x I can't wait to get....always something.
@@MyBichSustained It's really interesting how your approach is pedals first, then amp. I've always had the philosophy of going straight into amps, and pedals being a last resort to shaping tone
@@DevGohil Actually;y I don't use pedals on my Mesa and Amp..Pedals are fun...Experimenting keeps things fresh....I also don't play just Black and Death metal....I been playing guitar 29 years...Pedals have always been a part of me especially using solid state amps.
@@DevGohil Also the other reason I mention those pedals and cheaper amps is not everybody has money to blow on lots of equipment like you and I.
Knowing what I know now,If I had a amp and guitar and wanted more equipment,I would recommend a P.A. system and at least 2dynamicmics and 2 good condenser mics at least, and,a 4 to 8 track recorder, also buy a cheap mixer to split one mic into stereo and plug it into the recorder for a room mic and the other for the drummers bass drum into the p.a for recording live jams...more mics, the better. For those on limited budgets....Trust me...it's well worth it!
What model is the Engl?
Fireball 100
The Cornflower Audio RedCurrant is also a great FREE plug-in, works like a charm for BM. You can use it as a vst in you DAW or as a standalone. It has a gate, boost, amp, ir loader, reverb and delay all in one package. It's like the inbred cousin of the neural dsp, and it sounds nasty in a good way. Last but not least, it has a gringy Viking theme ;-)
sounds decent
I like the Soldano amp sim in Amplitube. Very clear sounding. I have a Blackstar HT 40 but the Emulated output is not too great of a sound even if I use Trve Cab. I have the Karl Sanders Dean and it sounds amazing through the amp sim.
Sweet. Is it the latest Karl Sanders V? Or the single pickup one released a few years back
@@DevGohil Single pickup. I bought it last May when the lockdowns began. Thought society was going to collapse so I got it. I felt guilty because my skills are not up to par to justify owning it but I still enjoy it.
@@morbidcorpse5954 you’ve got a rare beast there, enjoy it lots
oh fuck that shit is brutal
i just tried that amp out with an ibanez tubescreamer on an esp ltd and the tone is insane
Ha! I commented without seeing any of your stuff, just based on that part. Oops. Just a random bloke in my feed.😆I was in the process of backtracking on that last bit when you replied. Very cool channel actually 🤘
Cheers bruv
@@DevGohil I felt like a serious arse after a cursory glance at your channel. Writing and rehearsing a new DSBM project and find there's a LOT to take in and learn from your work. Cheers mate 🤘
Hey ! can you tell me wich Engl is that ? ty !
Fireball 100
@@DevGohil thank you! You have preferences for cab?
@@Fermor31 most Marshall mesa and orange cabs will be fine. This blackstar cab is great too
@@DevGohil i finally buy the fireball 25 and he is reaaaally good *_* thank you !
Raw for life imo
Lofi or nofi
How about cabs & cab-emulators? Obviously not working in an apartment...;) But I am thinking of a 1x12 + small tube amp (Hagerman One Watter) to have some fun at low levels.
Mostly playing NeuralDSP stuff. For BM besides the Gojira, Granophyre and Nameless already mentioned, Plini and Abasi have nice high-gain amps too. Plini can get you a great BM-tone if dialled in right.
Get a load box with an attentuator! I got a Torpedo Captor and it's one of the best musical purchases I've made. I can record with any amp now and drive it as much as I want. It's got a -20db attenuator output so I can take a loud ass amp and play it in my room through my actual cab.
@@hpebackwards 1000%. Im running a peavey 6505+ which is an insanely loud amp through the torpedo captor right into my interface and using the gojira archetype to load cab sims and it works perfectly
