I found yellow banded milkcaps here in CA just the other day. Thought it was a chanteralle until i noticed the latex on the scratched gills. I tasted them and it was spicy. Its considered inedible.
It’s classed as inedible because apparently it can cause some stomach upset in certain individuals. However I have heard that it’s regularly picked in some countries and also have known a few people to accidentally eat them and not be I’ll.

I nearly ate some at the beginning of my foraging journey and when they were in the pan they actually smelt quite nice! Not really like the fruity chanterelle though. I believe they are eaten in some parts.
We were actually on a lunch time dog walk and didn’t expect to find anything so this bag was all I had 🙈 would usually use basket! Like to let the spores spread around of course!
Thank you, no music, no hype, no driving your car there, just right to the point...thank you, well done video
Went last week and thought I’d struck the motherload! Was gutted they turned out to be falsies 😢
A cruel trick!!
A wonderful piece of advice, thank you 😊

Still can't understand difference in full structure. Yet to come across a guide that shows this clearly
Texture is way different
Thank you! I just spotted a patch outside my house! ( I live in the wooded country side )
Yum! We found our first ones of the year the other day too😁
@@JamieKunka I’m so excited!!!! This my first forage 🥹 ( Thanks again! 😁)

Are two edible?
Can you eat the false chantrelle ?

Almost like fools gold 😂 I remember the first time I found fools gold as a kid
Like the turkey tail and false turkey tail mushroom.
Oh how do you tell the difference between those?

Does anyone know if it’s by chance their spores just happened to land close to one another or?
I've always eaten them anyways. Flavor isn't as good but that's what seasoning is for.
always brutal to get skunked by falsies
I wonder what the false Chanterelle taste like does it mimic the flavor 🤔

The false chanterel is non poisonous and edible, but it doesn't have much of a taste.
the stems also look clearly different, color and shape-wise
So the false ones are toxic?
Just classed as non edible. Potentially stomach upsetting for some but eaten by others.
Can I ask why you are using a plastic bag like that to pick them?

@@JamieKunka that's more or less what I figured, that it was a random find.
