When I was 14, I moved to India. At 16 I got into leather working. For belts and wallets: Karol bagh in new Delhi sells everything you need. Belts usually require vegetable tanned buffalo or cowhide which they have in decent quantities. What's more is that they're full grain, but good luck on finding pieces that have been shaved to even thickness on the flesh side. For wallets, vegetable or combination tanned goat leather is your best choice. It's usually used for shoes so it can be stiff enough so as not to need backing fabrics. Not great for belts as lengths are limited. If you're making leather garments: The conventional leather they sell for this purpose is 3 grades of SHEEP nappa. Incidentally, sheep nappa is growing in popularity over its durability relative to lamb nappa. These are leathers whose grain has been corrected without entirely stripping the top grain. They're surprisingly strong but can have weak spots that limit the size of final pattern pieces. Instead, consider UNFINISHED analine dyed goatskin. Analine Dyes go all the way through and seldom bleed in my experience as opposed to polyurethane coatings that can shed. A lot of leather is available in a completely unfinished form. That is to say, it's tanned but only has a slight tan color and no top coat. These are great for oil dyeing. Oil dyeing utilises natural tannins infused into Castor oil which is then applied to unfinished leathers. These can bleed so consider just oil staining analine leathers as these have the best results. Good luck guys and don't let anyone disuade you telling you that it's "dirty" or "unclean" work. This is the 21st century.
hey man thanks for the video. i just wanted to take update on how it is holding on over the time. is upper layer still looks same or it got cracks or something like that. because currently I'm working my car project i want to make my car interior completely white. but I'm having hard time finding white carpet for my car floor. so I'm thinking of using genuine leather. can please help me out here and tell me about is upper layer of leather chipping. I'll really appreciate your response.
Try Indiamart.. Be careful of the suppliers you choose. Outside, in local stores, it has become very rare and they say, "leatherette".. They are mostly selling artificial leather..

Yes. Look out for the proper sellers with good ratings.

Thanks for the video. How did u confirm its full grain leather ? Not just split leather with punched design
This is not full grain. It's a split grain which has been painted white. Upholstery leather is very rarely full grain.

No cracks at all.. It's holding good.. I think the issue comes in when they do not use genuine leather.. No chipping.. It's fantastic..
I think it's not a full grain vegitable tanned leather
