You can never have Too Much Light at night when motorcycling!
+- RunningWithScissors - Agreed!
oh yes you can have too much lights especially in the twisties at night. Imagine the dude in the counter traffic getting dazzled by your powerful lights & crashing into you.
Correctly aimed lights will not blind oncoming traffic and auxiliary lights typically have a wide beam pattern that is meant to be aimed low enough to be left on at all times.
I know. But I think the lights we are talking about are rated as OF ROAD so that made me suspicious. Anyway I've directed them quite low so should be ok.
Woah what a lovely evening look at that sky! Can't believe how good those lights are for the price, have to see if they stand the test of time...
Yeah, I hope they do!
I had some similarly cheap LEDs off of ebay with a 3 wire connection with a -ve, +ve and a trigger wire for full brightness. On my old (1990s) cruiser with a single H4, i wired the +ve to the sidelights (via a little waterproof switch so I could turn them off independently if there was a problem) and the trigger wire to the main beam. LED's are only a handful of watts so you can get away with it on a non-canbus bike. Worked really well. Hardest part was finding a good bracket.
Haven't bothered with aux lights on current ride as it's a twin projector setup. Osram nightbreaker bulbs made all the difference over the Sylvania bulbs that were in there when I got it though.
Thanks CavalrymanofChaos - good to hear from you again, it's been a while!
Its pretty nifty that it works will full/low beam. Love to see how bright they are in person, never the same on video. Thumbs Up!
Yes the video really doesn't do them justice - cheers Jon....TMF
Nice set up, glad they worked out for you
Thanks....
my gs adventure came with the original bmw aux light. the headlight is bright as day. better than almost every car i ve ever driven... exept the mercedes bi xenon lights... but you are right. the modern led healights are fantastic!
nice video
cheers Tom
Thanks Tom....
Thanks, I will consider a set of them, come payday.. the light I have now is pretty dimm so I like the thought of having something that'll light the forest up. I hate driving at night but would like to more, if I had decent lights... thanks again.
You're welcome...
Got the mounting brackets today off eBay it's the same company but on Amazon there out of stock Gordon some reason. They are very good quality you get what you pay for at the end of the day. Just waiting for the Hezcan to arrive from the states. No doubt there will be vat and handling charge to pay as well. Then the fitting which no doubt will involve the use of naughty words lol
Yeah, I edited those out of my video....
You can never have too much light at night whatever the vehicle. The trick of course is the quality of the product plus the sighting and alignment. The last two points often totally ignored or just done wrong. Cheers TMF.
[cough]...
TheMissendenFlyer Excused. I did like the flashing LEDs. Dunno how much if you were sat behind me though.
Thanks TMF... I've been waiting for this vid to come out before i purchased them. I have the 2014 GSA (canbus) so may well treat myself to the HexEZcan at some point. In the meantime, i may just wire them in with a separate switch.
+Flaming T Don't forget you may need the brackets to mount them too if you're thinking of mounting on crash bars - see the link in description for details...
Just ordered them both although I haven't told SWMBO yet. Cheers
...why do you have too? Who wears the trousers at yours eh? Man or mouse??
TheMissendenFlyer .... pass the cheese will you. 😃
Very impressive!
cheers...
Anyone else think the sky colour looked good as well lol. Good follow up video pal.
Thanks Jon - and yes the GoPro did a good job with that planet low in the sky too!
Have you ever thought of fitting a rear fog light to a bike? I've fixed a high intensity rear bicycle lamp to my passenger grab rail just incase I'm caught out by fog on a journey. I have to stop somewhere to switch it on, so not ideal. But it's a good deal brighter than the standard rear lamp. Not sure of the legality, but I think it's ok so long as it is far enough away from the brake light and on the centre line of the bike.
I've not thought of a fog light but the HexEZcan solution I've fitted allows for an additional high level brake light which I quite like the sound of....just got to work out where/how to mount it....
TheMissendenFlyer some top boxes come with high level brake lights fitted. lt depends if you need/like top boxes.
Mate I love your vids , and the lights look great be safe.
Thank you Jon....
Marvellous, another informative video !
+Stephen Holderness Thank you Stephen
They seem really good especially at that price, just bought a 2016 r1200gs and was looking for some spots but when I found out how much bmw wanted I thought ff that, we ride a lot of single track roads at night so these should come in handy. cheers tmf, good find.
Yes those BMW ones are a bit salty...don't forget if you want them wired into the BMW switch gear then you have to factor in the HexEZcan (or similar Canbus adaptor) too....all the best - TMF
I'm wiring direct too battery and using a separate switch on the handle bars, did this on my f800gs and never had a problem with canbus.
Light up the night! Very nice!!
+Scott Peterson Yes they do, the video really doesn't do them justice....
Hi MissendenFlyer. I've probably seen all your videos and really appreciate your job. You are providing useful information for all of us motorcyclists.I have a question - are this lights ok to pass MoT? Or you have to dismantle them prior to MoT?
I've actually bought and install them already trying to tilt them slightly down to avoid dazzling oncoming traffic but whether I've done good job I will only see on the road (ie. drivers flashing their lights on me).
My moto is Honda NC750X so don't have all this electronics and is 16reg so not due for MoT for next two years but I really want to be legal on the road. Regards.
To be completely honest I don't know - I will find out at MOT time! When I next see my MOT tester I'll ask him what the regs are on these...thanks for watching and for the kind words - TMF
Ugh. Someone is using a clip of your video to advertise a DIFFERENT led aux light, one of the generic ones that have the ridiculous strobe function. Whilst getting links to go debunk their advert, my newsfeed (the ad was on Facebook) refreshed and the ad disappeared. Will come back if I find it again... Cheeky!!
Cheeky devils! Thanks for the heads up....you'd be amazed what goes on when you start producing content for the interwebs....
Great thumbnail pic TMF! Nicely done!
Thank you :0)
Good Evening TMF Good idea ive a 2006 BMW Adventure I was woundering if I could wire them into the existing aux lights because the LED lights would draw very low wattage?? Thank You for the video.Take Care.
Don't know - I think you might upset the CanBus set up - these beemers are a bit funny when it comes to just plugging stuff in....HexEZcan is the way to go (but pricey I know)....
Hi TMF - great videos and I've been lurking in the background watching them all... How are the lights holding up for you? no issues, leaks, rust or any other problems? Thanks for your great content and any info you can share!
All good with the lights - still as good as the day I fitted them, turned out excellent value! Thanks for stopping by at last! - TMF
is a quid the same as a pound?
Identical, just a bit less posh.... (like dollar = buck)
I have a 2018 model 1200 rt le.The bike comes with the Angel Eyes day running lights.Great, car drivers are bound to see me now,NO they don't,they still pull out on me!
Frustration led me to buy the HexEZcan plus 2 Denali D4's,plus two Ebay supplied BMW copy auxiliary lights which are much brighter than the £400 jobbies,BMW supply.
4 hours latter, everything fitted and properly routed.I have the Hex configured so that when the horn is pressed, the lights strobe as they do when I press the passing switch 3 times rapidly.
The only issue I have had is getting these D4's aimed properly. The D4's,really do turn night into day so aim is of the utmost importance.
The final result,....The F*****s see me now.
Good aren't they!
Amazing value for Rigid Industries clones! I wonder how to dim them on on a non canbus setup?
Dunno - but agree on the value!
Bought Denali D2 lights and the HexezCan to install/control them. The dealer said he could not use a the controller because BMW does not supply a trigger. It appears that your extra aux come on with the bikes lights and work in parallel the the bikes hi.low beam via the bikes light switch?
Correct...
I either have bad eyesight or a really rubbish laptop screen as I couldn't see any difference when the high beam was on, well other than the bit of road directly in front the bike lighting up! Good video though TMF, I like the real time demos :-)
Yeah the camera didn't make a good job of it I'm afraid....you'll have to take my word for it - these puppies go BRIGHT!
when riding at night is it hard to see the buttons on the handlebars? I know its all about muscle memory but for a new rider......
Well yes it can be if you're riding in very dark conditions (no ambient light or street lighting) and on a bike with lots of buttons! If you tend to ride the same bike all the time it's not really a problem but I would love to see more manufacturers light their controls. Thanks for watching! - TMF
TMF can you recommend a specific brand of inexpensive lights for my 2017 CB500X? Something I could find on Amazon etc....thanks
Hi buddy, another great video, thank you! How do you remove the wind noise from the mic? The audio sounds really clear. thank you.
Just experimentation with positioning and use a deadcat on the mic....
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks a lot for you prompt reply buddy, I will try that. Cheers, Marcos.
Just bought a set of these!..wow are they bright!.
I put them on 10% for day time running and 75% night.
What settings are yours on?
Yes mine are similar settings - way too bright on 100%!
Hi TMF, what's the long term review on these light units, thinking of getting some for my new GS Rallye. Have read some reviews saying they're not that good longer term. Fill with water, LED's fail and they go rusty. What has your experience been ? Still happy with them ?
(The Hex ezcan looks a trick bit of kit)
Many thanks, Steve.
Hi Steve, yes still loving the aux lights, no issues at all with them - no lights failed and no sign of rust (and I have used them in some pretty filthy weather!) Thoroughly recommended....and nice bike by the way! All the best - TMF
Hi, In your opinion would these lights be ok to use as drl's on a bike without canbus? I am thinking they may be a little too bright.
Too bright as running lights for sure - but as a full beam, great.....
My god! Have you seen the price of the Clearwater aux lights (over $600). Are you running those in conjunction with the BMW aux lights?
Yes I'm running my cheapo Amazon lights (£17 + HexEZcan and brackets) and the £400(ish) BMW OEM Aux lights....
Good day John here. If you install the hex easy and you have an electrics issue while mc still under warranty - will BMW cover the warranty work? Test rides - can you do one on Honda 250 Rally? Thanks and keep up the good work.
What do you think? Obviously not but if it blows up the electrics just remove the device and revert to dealer!
The Hex guys say it doesn't affect your warranty but I'm with Nick (as they say)....
Hi there. Im gonna purchase some of these but when i click on your link im faced with a choice.....spot or flood. Which did you fit?
Spot I think - still going strong too!
@@TheMissendenFlyer thanks for that. I'll get some ordered.
Does the dip switch, switch them to lower wattage? High beam on maximum?
Correct - via the HexEZcan in my case...
Thanks for the follow up. Your dark screen doesn't help though. Total cost for lights and bracket £47.94
FYI. The USA can't/won't supply the HexEZcam. You have to order them from South Africa?
This from the American dealer, today.
Hello! Thank you for your email and interest in our parts. I am sorry to say that we are not able to sell the EZcan internationally. Please contact hexcode direct at www.hexcode.co.za for a local distributor information. We are sorry we are unable to assist you!
I ordered mine from Beemershop.com - no problem (except import duty from the US).....
Hi TMF, what is the product name for those lights? They look great value. Denali 3-400£, although I know they have massive beam distance but too much for me. I have a Triumph Tiger 800 xca 2 months old(2017) so if those lights would fit it would be great. How can I switch them?? Use the stock triumph original and have them come on with the other standard aux lights? I'm also going to try the Phillips extreme h4 lamps to get better headlights than standard, which are frankly like candles. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
Check the link and it'll take you to the exact lights I bought...you could buy a generic bike light switch from e-bay if you wanted to make them switchable separately (mine I wired into the BMW's Can-Bus to make them do weird and wonderful things)...
Cheers mate, I'll probably go for the switch and harness from mic tune also the clamps to fix the lights to the crash bars. About £50 al in, bargain. So thanks for your help, as always. Super stuff.👍
Hi bud, would be interested in hearing you're thoughts on the 2017 Z1000sx if u ever get chance from the local kawasaki dealership 👍, get vids keep them coming
get = great
Thanks - Actually I do have a pal that rides one of those - you never know, he might let me borrow it one day ;0)
Hi TMF. Can you tell me what switch you are you using i do not see they sell it with motorcycle switch. Rgs. Tom
No I am controlling it using the BMW switch gear via the HexEZcan I installed previously - see >> ua-cam.com/video/2uIgB0kqyPM/v-deo.html for details...
I was expecting to see an Owl, they are out there you know.
:0)
Cooo cooooo coo coo cooo coooo coo coo
Great results TMF, shame we cant get hexezcan here in the UK yet.
Only via US at the moment which is a pain. still, have to be worth it.
+Alan Neal I did!
Think I will have to order one!
Think I will have to order one!
The US supplier refused to supply me with hexezcan! The manufacturer will not permit them to be sold in Europe.....
Hi, where can I get a hexEZcan, great bit of kit. Do you recall the price including shipping ?Cheers
I got it from beemershop, did you see this video of mine>? >> ua-cam.com/video/2uIgB0kqyPM/v-deo.html
TheMissendenFlyer yes, sorry I think I just got carried away with what it can do.
Thank You for your reply 👍
No difference in beam from low to high. Put the camera on your helmet please
The camera is on my helmet!
Nice review,well done ;-)
Thank you Baza765
they look well worth the money
+Slipping Jimmy Yes they are excellent value, especially when you consider the cost of the BMW OEM aux lights (which I also have!)
I wonder if they would helmet mount?.... just a thought... one either side ,, it's only like wearing a couple of Go Pro's hey !!!. You heard it hear first Bigus !!,, i'v got an old Stadium open faced helmet.. i'll report back !
Hmm, somehow I think that might get some unwanted attention!! Like the way you're thinking though Alf ;0) ...always brings me a smile when I see a comment from you, thanks for stopping by......TMF
When you fit one of these you lose some of the wheel functions associated with the BMW navigator . Also on the new bikes with the TFT screen you can't fit them because the wheel is used to operate that as well as navigator .
Are you sure about that David? I've not lost any functions on my BMW navigator??? Everything works as it should on my machine??
Riding any bike at night especially on unlit country roads with just standard headlights(especially low beam) is potentially very dangerous particularly with the state that UK roads are in.
All bike manufacturers should be equipping their bikes with modern, high efficiency led headlights and auxiliary lighting as a minimum in my opinion.
cheers
Yes I agree with that 100% - Great to hear from you again BTW...all the best - TMF
Has anybody had problems with water or condensation ?
Not me so far....
Tim Rodden I've put these exact lights on my Bandit 1250 last year and have been running them for 6 months through UK Winter and salt roads.
They are brilliant lights and so cheap. the mounting bracket supplied with the light corrodes, so I pulled off flaked paint and repainted.
My lights were mounted upside down (cable at top) so I filled surrounding cable gap with clear silicone sealant.
Work great, other than stonechips needing touching up, absolute bargain.
No water ingress or fogging. Just very bright.
must admit I have some givi lights on my v Strom and can't use them at night.Far too bright
...that's why the HexEZCan is such a good solution on the BMW, you can set the brightness as you wish :0)
TheMissendenFlyer great idea. I think I'll have to have a look at mine as one doesn't seem to be working. they are great when filtering though as help you get noticed ;)
video definately makes no justice, true to say it's hard to video this effect. thanks for the clip anyway. ride safe TMF
Cheers!
very good :-)
+linda dale :0)
£15.oo
NOW.
Just bought a set of "spots" .had to cancel 1st order as default setting was at "flood"...
Fitting them to my front wheel guard.
Just like page 3 - looks like they have a good spread! 🤣
Showing your age there I think!
IMO this "brighter lights than you" arms race has just gone beyond. It exemplifies the ever-increasing selfishness one experiences in everyday life and is worst on the roads where cowardly little f*****s can hide behind 4-6 lights in their tin boxes... And now more of my fellow bikers are fitting these ghastly white lights - though, it has to be said, it's mainly those miserable f*****s on adventure bikes who won't wave and who go little further than Sainsburys, despite the stickers covering their aluminium panniers. Running with multiple lights makes it very difficult for your fellow road users to judge both speed and distance and, as such, is BLOODY DANGEROUS!
I was going to say nice to hear from you again Buzz, but seems like you may have got out of the bed the wrong side today...
Hahahaha! Auld grumpy pants lol
Doesn't matter which side of bed I emerge from, Flyer, I always react badly to bullying. Dazzling fellow road users with a plethora of unnecessarily bright white lights is not assertive riding, it's intimidatory riding. I suggest you revisit the Highway Code regarding forward-facing vehicle lights...
