My Home Decorators Shades from Home Depot would not retract at all. I tried pulling straight down with no luck. I used the 45-degree method, and it fixed it. Thank you.
It would be helpful if you actually do it on a broken blind. Showing a technique on a functional/non-broken blind is not helpful and does not justify that the technique is efficient. Good business strategy to affirm the consumer to expect that if this happens in future it will be a quick fix. If its about a blind that went nonfunctional after few weeks of use than please address that in the video. If thats the case then I would understand the reasoning behind the shade needing a tug to loosen the string thats gets caught. So, please be clear about potential cause and the fix for that cause.
my blinds are Levolor cordless but not these cellular type. Mine somehow became stuck in the down position and would not retract properly. I tried the technique in the video by bringing the bottom toward me at a 45 degree angle. Upon my first "tug" on the blinds the whole unit came crashing down out of its mounting brackets. When i put it back into its mounting brackets everything worked perfectly, soooooo....i guess thank you?? 🤷🏻♂️. Haha, but seriously, the advice helped and now my blind works again!
Yes! They are fixable, unless you actually broke one of those plastic, geared cartridges, or a rope/string. Even a broken string is fixable. I yanked a string completely out, tore it loose from it's spool, down thru the shading material and out the bottom...and fixed it! I even had to recut one of the broken "T" ends of the spring steel strip of one of the two spooled geared cartridges. Still have two extra cartridges, tho, which once figured out their positions should account for the extra string length to allow it to pull down all the way. Nice design, Levalor!👍
Love this assistant/ representative. Her voice was appropriate and not giddy or loud. Great choice to represent your brand and tutorials. Thanks for the helpful video. Now off to fix my shade 🙂
Really didn't think this would work on our Bali cellular shade....but it did! Only pulled back at a 15 degree angle and tugged three times. Saved us $300+ on buying a new shade!
This did not fix my brand new shade that has a center button to retract on the bottom rail. But upon inspection in the lower channel ends I could see that the strings were not taught with the blinds fully extended. This lead me to assume the recoil mechanism was jammed. The solution was easy but removing the blind from the window was necessary. Lay the blind on a table so that it is in the fully retracted position. Remove the end caps on the bottom rail. Using a hook (a straightened and bent into a hook paperclip works perfectly) pull the cords out of the ends of the rail, on both sides. Gently pull on the cords one at a time. If the blind closes tighter you need to pull the opposite side of that cord. You are trying to get the side that goes into the return mechanism, so you should feel some spring tension and not see the blind bunch up. Once you figure out the cords on both sides gently pull the one at a time back and fourth. If you have the same problem I had after a few tugs you should see the cords get noticeably longer on one or both sides. Once that happens they should work as they are meant to. The problem I believe is that one or both cords jammed the return pulley. And the back and fourth pulling frees up the jam. I am sure this is what should happen if you follow this video, but for me it did not. Hopefully this can save someone the hassle of returning or replacing these expensive blinds. Good luck.
These blinds are the worst investment you can make for your home. Have had numerous ones replaced by Levolor due to the broken top rail mechanism and now have another round in my home that either won’t fully extend (1-2 inches short) of the full window length, or now have 1 that won’t retract. This quick fix… works and is needed, but the overall quality of this product is trash.
This worked for my curtains: pull down and go up little by little. When you pull down it's a very small amount, then you push it up whatever much you can. Of course, your curtains may be different. It's a hassle every time, but it worked for me.
As a husband I find this statement offensive. Us husbands are trying hard to figure it out ourselves to get that sweet acknowledgement from our lovely wife. I know its silly to not ask for help but that's just what we do! He's trying ok, go easy on him lol #teamhusband✊
Same problem as others on here. Pulled all the way down and then they wouldn't go back up again! Now they go up a few feet and get stuck. I can hear the gears inside whirring and clicking away, so the plastic gears/springs inside are kaput. A "never again" purchase!
Many Thanks for this method of repair as I was fighting a problem of raising my top down bottom up blinds for the past year.....thanks to you its fixed
Thanks for the video! I have a quick question- In my case, I am having those vertical slat blinds and I have 2 issues and would greatly appreciate your response! (1) In my living room window blinds, only 1 out of the total 9 blinds move when I pull the rope attachment. The remaining 8 blinds just stop moving along with the first one after 2 seconds of pulling my rope attachment so there is this huge gap created when I close the blind and sunlight comes right in.What to do about it? (2) For my bedroom window blinds, i ma having the same issue but in this case 4 out of 9 blinds move after pulling the rope attachment. The remaining 5 just won’t move at all after a while so it creates a wide gap and sunlight comes right in. How to solve this issue? Thanks ahead of time for your response🙏
I've had this problem on a couple of shades (not Levolor brand, but the all say same thing), and I can't seem to get this to fix it. BUT I wanted to comment that EVERY time I see this and they say "45 degree angle" I laugh because none of this folks must remember geometry. They are usually doing it about 20 or 30 degrees - at most. For it to be 45 degrees, it would have to be halfway out between the floor and the ceiling!
This works, but you have to pull it at a 45 degree angle from the window. She does not do this in this video! Once I did the 45 degree angle, it worked right away!
Mine does not go up and go down. It got stucked in the mid way and the middle button on the bar does not work. How to fix this problem. I tried your method to my blind and did not work at all. Thank you.
Can you make a video to show how to raise them so they’ll stay horizontal? I paid a ton of money for my honeycomb blinds and all of them are a pain in the butt and I want to throw them out. I roll them straight up from the center and they always want to lean to one side super super annoying unless there’s an easy fix you can show me I will never buy a Levolor blind again.
Spent half an our looking at my new blinds. Spent another 30 looking for a video to tell me how to fix my stuck blinds because it has no string.... I have cordless blinds. My fingers hurt.
Tried four times..at a true 45° angle..didn't work..still sags..installed 4 days ago so literally brand new..now on to more 'University of UA-cam' fix videos...🥴
OK HERES THE DEAL! Being an engineer I decided to take a real good look at the MAIN TOP RAIL. For the size blind I have (all 4) there are five (5) "strings" that come down THROUGH the MAIN TOP RAIL. Those strings - AND THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR EVERY MANUFACTURERS BLINDS - go through a little plastic piece which SHOULD BE attached to the MAIN TOP RAIL. In My case, each blind has five (5) strings coming down through 5 plastic pieces that are SUPPOSED to be attached to the hole the strings pass through in the top main rail. NONE OF THEM WERE - ON ALL FOUR BLINDS!! Cheap manufacturing. NOT glued in/just fitted (got to save that .01 of profit!). Once I made sure those little plastic pieces were in the CORRECT place, IT WORKS! Here's why. IF THOSE PIECES THAT THE STRING FIT THROUGH ARE NOT IN PRECISE PLACEMENT THEY WILL NOT ALLOW THE STRING TO PROPERLY PULL OR RETRACT. Incorrect string placement causes the string itself to "pinch" off itself. I purchased 4 blinds - ALL WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. Took 5 minutes to install all 4 and NOW they work perfectly. SO there You go. Hope that helps some of Ya'll. HOME DEPOT - YOU STILL SUCK!! lol Had My assistant call them and notify them as so why our account was closed and what We did in seconds to correct THEIR problem. #1 rule of business - IF YOU CAN'T STAND BEHIND YOUR PRODUCT, GET OUT OF BUSINESS BECAUSE YOU'RE GOING TO BE BROKE SOONER THAN LATER. FACT!! Good Luck Ya'll!!!
We ordered Levolor blinds for our new home through their design center..We were blessed when Home Depot let us know that they couldn't get our 'Day/Night' order made as desired. We then cancelled the entire order, switched to Blinds.com and saved over $1900 for the same number and dimensions of shades from what Home Depot charged. I totally understand why you cancelled with HD..of course, one of our blinds, (all installed a few days ago) is suffering the "won't go all the way up" syndrome but at least I don't have Home Depot to deal with...🥴
I was wondering if she meant tilt the bottom to 45 with respect to the shade plane itself because that's 30 degrees at the most with respect to the window pane or a normal line to the earth. Lousy video defending lousy shades.
I tried this and it didn't work for me. I called customer service and they said "maybe they got thrown around" and to take it back to Lowe's. Like I have all the time in the world to keep uninstalling these blinds. As this is the second time it happens.
My shade lifts almost all the way but remains uneven. I tried the "tugging method" described above but it seems to have no effect. Are there any other approaches to try?
@@benrogers7897 I contacted Levoler directly and because I had the receipt and it had been less than a year, they replaced them. They said they need to be raised and lowered regularly to keep them mobile. Hope that helps.
How about when they don’t stay horizontal. I paid a ton of money for these shades, and they are the biggest pain in the butt to get to stay straight if at all.
This only works if both ends of the spring are connected to a spool. Once the spring slips off one of the spools the shade does not work. Out of 10 Levelor room darkening shades in my house, I’ve repaired 5 of them myself. Still have 2 to go. Shades are less than 10 years old. Very disappointed in the Levelor brand!
Great, now my blinds are completely down and won't go up. Thank you!!!
😂😂😂
She said “gently” pull down 😂😂😂
That's what Levolor is all about! Love them! Never again will someone have to have their curtains up. Thank god.
Yeah, mine is near the floor. Example: How to fix your refrigerator - plug it in - simple!!
I laughed at this comment then tried pulling it down again. And now I have the same problem 🥹
Doesn’t work

take off bottom plastic piece , check if any of the ropes are tangled, untangle. Usually an easy fix if ropes are not broken.
maybe make a video on how to do this?
