Just some thoughts: braces are definitely a good choice for the heavier man as they also pull the eyes up. Back when I was heavier I realized that t-shirts made me look more rounded, so I switched to wearing button down shirts that fit well. As to the buying multiple items of an item that fits well, one point I think you missed is that if you find an item that fits well like a dress shirt or trousers that come in different colors or patterns this definitely the time to buy multiples in the different colors.
"It doesn't matter what your weight or size is. We are all here because we all have something we want to contribute to the world. We are all here for a reason to serve a purpose."
@@phraktl he’s pretty much just saying don’t beat yourself up too much if you think you’re overweight or too fat and instead just focus on the things that actually make you a good person
All these years, and you're still knocking it out of the park! I'm not even that large, but this video still interested me all the way through. Thanks for this trove of videos, Antonio!
I have the contrary problem since I was a teen - look a lot thinner than I actually am. Recently took a shirt I had bought online to my tailor, he looked at me and the shirt and sternly told me I would have to have at the least a 40 inch chest. Then he took my measurement (44 inch chest) “Well, you’re bigger than you look!” 😅
Im so glad I found your channel! I recently got a promotion at work and am now in an office environment. This is new to me because I have worn scrubs for 15 years. I didn't have any business casual, let alone know how to properly wear it. Full disclosure- I went to goodwill initially. Their selection was AWESOME. I was able to get a handful of very nice fitting and great looking shirts and pants. Got some dress shoes off Amazon, and my suspenders arrived today. Thanks for teaching us Antonio!
will definitely look at changing my style up, im 5'10 and 130 kilos, struggle with my weight from my back issues and thyroid conditions, my weight fluctuates constantly. usually just throw on tshirt, and a stretchy black shorts cause it's cooler
Yes and yes and yes to the advice to bulk buy well-fitting clothes. I wear country shirts and some sort of light quickdry material trousers with discreet zip pockets but otherwise they resemble regular formal trousers with belt loops. So now I keep my eye out especially for sportswear (fabric) that resembles formalwear (style) as that's perfect for working as a schoolteacher.
I had suspenders when in college in the 1980s. I was heavily influenced by the movie Wall Street. The sad thing for me is that I had short and sloping shoulders. I could never be able to keep the suspenders on my shoulders no matter how I adjusted it. It made for job interviewing difficult.
Grateful to see a style channel address those of us that want to dress well, but our bodies are not where they should be (yet). I’ve fought my weight most of my life and I still want to look good and dress well. I find being larger, “classic” cuts and fits of clothes tend to fit better, but they can look a bit baggy. Any ideas beside tailoring to find a good compromise between slim “modern” fits and fuller cut “classic” fit? Thanks for all you do. God bless.
I'm a larger chap, living in the UK the best thing I've done recently is changed to wearing braces, sorry suspenders. in the UK "suspenders" are things ladies wear on... enough of that!. But for a big chap braces help the trousers hang better, and feel great, I have loads of pairs in different colours, that is the key so they match and enhanse the look. Fit is always king, great fit with matching braces elongates the legs, and creates lines like a bold vertical stripe does and breaks up that big block of colour. Making you look great and well put together. Hats are great too, love a fedora and have a Homburg. Love this video for the bigger chap
Hi Antonio, love your videos and advice. Have you ever done a video on how a man should set up and organize his closet? I would love to hear your take on setting up a closet that is functional, assessable and shows care and respect for the clothing and shoes that live inside. I think many men would find this to be helpful mentally as well, after all if a man can organize his closet than he can organize his thoughts and possibly his life will seem less cluttered as well.
Great advice as usual. I love wearing coats, even in the summer, because I live in a state where we can have 4 seasons in one day! I just like the extra pockets to carry glasses, wallet, phone or sun glasses. 😎
I can still remember this military jacket I got a few years back. I only got 1 and that thing was the absolute best Jacket I ever had for my body type. My weight fluctuates alot and that thing worked with whatever my weight was. I couldn't find it again after I wore it out. Man I miss that jacket..
Also something I do instead of the jacket, is adding a vest. It’s too hot in Florida for a jacket but a vest is extremely flexible and stylish. To me it makes me feel even more put together than a jacket.
Thank you 🙏I carry a little extra around the gut, feel a little self conscious, and I’m always searching for what’s best. Some great tips here that I will definitely take forward.
I find that buying several pieces of something I like saves trips to the dry cleaners. Bringing 3 pairs of jeans and 3-4 shirts at a time makes more sense than going after each wear because I have just 1 of that item.
Coming from a big boy, full cut Suits with wide lapels and high rise trousers or full cut slacks a sports coat and a 3 button polo…..trust me those are our fashion best friends.
This video is awesome. Thank you. I live in the south US. It's hot all the time cargo shorts and t-shirts are my friends but I know I look larger and a bit goofy. I have no clue how to change this at all.
might be harsh to hear or read but maybe a better solution is to lose weight. i don't think az, nm, tx, etc are a place for an overweight person. as an ex-obese greek, the eastern mediterranean is enough. i lost 45 pounds recently, took me a year. my old clothes, which are super simple t-shirts, shorts etc don't fit me anymore. they don't fit me at all. it might harder for some people to do, and america really isn't a place for a healthy person unless you're strong willed, but maybe you should look into that. no one deserves one less loved one because they thought doughnuts were tasty and neither should we look like morons.
Again I disagree with the idea of not using T Shirts with stamps. The fit, a stamp no so big, good contrast (jacket for example) and an informal dress code... nail it!!
That shirt with the round bottom part at 4:44 looks very unpolished to me, it evokes me the image of how one looks after a wild wedding party. I think the straight bottom shirt at 4:40 looks 10 times better (although that one in specific doesn't look as good in the chest section)
Thanks so much for this video. I enjoyed it end to end. In regards to suspenders don’t forget there are suspenders that are made to go under shirts so they work well with polos and t shirts
For jackets of you're tall and have a dad bod. Look for tall sizes some time's. For example. I used to get a 2x or 3x Levies jean classic jean jacket, but it made me look fatter. The waste is always over bloated on those jackets. For some reason, I got tried an xlt then bulit some muscle then went to 2xlt. Both those tall jackets did not have big waist and actually went past the belt line. So even if you have a dad bod, you're probably still not still as fat as you think and need to pick a jacket that doesn't make youre waist look bigger.
I’m 5”9 and 305 pounds I seriously wish I could post suit pics on here to help out my fellow big guys, in a tailored full cut suit you would never know I was over 300 pounds.
Truth. I have to usually buy a size or two up off the rack because I have a thick neck and chest. Fortunately my time in the military taught me to find a local tailor as first priority. (Think at the time I was 46ish in the chest 30 in the waist or somesuch but I'd swim in the stomach area for shirts.)
Keep up the information. It is good advice I stabilized at 250 lbs and 5 ‘10” for years. I practice all of your points. Lighter, loose layers and absolutely no “kid clothes!” I have a tailor made pin strip suit that works wonderful. The tailor has adjusted my shirts and such so, once a year, I add new dimension to my attire. (French cuffs work amazing.)
its impossible to get ready made jackets that fit me I either have to buy a massive one and spend £££ to have it altered or buy a smaller one and have that annoying x in the middle, also my waist fluctuates a lot so something may be a perfect fit one day and not the next
You mentioned hats. I got my first Panama hat last summer an wore it with shorts, as it seems a summer, tropical hat. I have seen online how good it looks with suits, but my question is should a Panama hat be retired for the winter, or can it be worn year round?
I hate suspenders and I hate shirts so I'd better watch my weight because neither of those options are going to happen. Buttoned shirts look grotesque in my opinion.
I’d love to hear some advice on clothing and maybe brands that are friendly for large men with muscles. I’m 6’ and about 240lbs without much body fat. I have a terrible time finding clothes that fit my shoulders or my legs. If I wear clothes that fit my shoulders or thighs I end up with a very baggy fit in the waist and calves. Arms tend to be too long on button ups as well.
Is the baggy dress style coming back in? I ask because I just went and bought two new dress shirts and they were telling this is now the style of most dress shirt. I am now wondering if that is the case and the baggy sleeve dress shirts should be taken back?
Having dropped 60 pounds, fit is king. Shirts too big or small, make you appear overweight. Loose clothes draping or a too small shirt stretched like a sausage casing make you appear more overweight. Threw out entire wardrobe and stepped up style. Everybody thinks I have a mistress now. Great, to get compliments from both sexes. You command respect when you respect yourself. As a physiologist, high blood pressure and diabetes can contribute to ED. Men should get an in person physical with a blood pressure reading and blood draw. There are some downsides to telehealth.
This big guys video is for the extra pound kind, do you have one for the tall kind of big guys? Because when you are tall enought that only 4x-large or above kinda fits you are not that large so it looks good.

Suspenders are not the right place to start if you’re not already up to speed with the rest of your outfit.
I had suspenders when in college in the 1980s. I was heavily influenced by the movie Wall Street. The sad thing for me is that I had short and sloping shoulders. I could never be able to keep the suspenders on my shoulders no matter how I adjusted it. It made for job interviewing difficult.
For me I’ve found that both vests and longer coats tend to make any extra weight completely invisible while still rocking a western flare
