    Going through the same dilemma with a much smaller lawn in MO. Killed off my already-dead zoysia last fall but didn't get it cut out before it got cold, then as soon as I got it torn up this spring a downpour washed half my dirt down the street 😅 put out starter fertilizer and seed covered with straw and somehow the weather has played nice, now I'm just praying something pops up in the advertised timeframe and stressing about keeping it wet. I seeded my lawn after a new build in 2019. Torrential rainfall like 2 days later lol! Overseeded it that fall again and added some fine topsoil as a top dressing to what I had. GCi TTTF and cool blue. It’s the nicest yard in the neighborhood now. I covered mine in the problem areas with the EZ straw with tackifier. It got sticky when wet! Maybe try some of that in those slope areas if the straw blankets are too much or hard to find

    Ryan, have you ever considered using a tackifier over your seed? I seeded my backyard and a steep portion of a side yard last fall. I used a powdered tackifier that I mixed with sand as a carrier, and applied with a drop spreader over my dusting of peat moss. It worked excellently. I applied it with a minimal breeze. Wind is frustrating. I had to get it down though and thankfully was dealing with just a breeze at the time. The drop spreader and sand mixture were perfect to help it fall straight down on the ground. It was a very fine powder, and a broadcast spreader and breeze would have had it carried away on the wind. The sand helped a lot too. If you ever want to try something other than seeding blankets, I recommend the tackifier.

    Hi Ryan! What USDA zone is this? I am in central Arkansas and hoping for spring seeding a cool season grass in my partial sun and shade lawn. We moved in a year ago and the yard is diabolical. We previously had a beautiful Bermuda lawn (but dog is allergic). I MUST have a solution, even if I have to re-seed in the fall.
    Any recommendations?

    • @ryanknorrlawncare
      @ryanknorrlawncare  8 днів тому

      I'm in Iowa. Cool season would be pretty difficult to maintain and would likely need a yearly overseed in your location due to summer die off. Is there a way to tell if the dog is allergic to just bermuda or I would assume other grasses as well?

    • @MrSmiths
      @MrSmiths Рік тому

      @@xIMxMCLOVINx It was a large area 22,000 sqft. Mostly clay. Keeping the seeds moist was very difficult. I was watering about every 4 hours and still couldn't keep it from drying out. I'm on a well and didn't want to run it dry watering any more than that. I didI cover it with straw but the wind thinned out the straw after about 10 days. Eventually I got a decent stand of young grass but by August the heat had killed off quite a bit. Long story short, I ended up with a lawn that is just good enough that I didn't want to start over. So 3 years now and it's still not great but improving. In hindsight I would have trucked in some much better soil from the start.

      @@ryanknorrlawncare What would you estimate your level of weed tolerance is to keep the spring seeded lawn...like we can all envision some bare spots and potentially some erosion loss if it rains too heavily...but what percentage of turf to weeds would you decide to just trash it and re-attack in the fall? I think I've heard Doc and Alan say that as long as you have around 30% turf, you can recover it without a full renovation. Since those guys are both warm season guys, is there a rule of thumb for your turf types? BTW I hope the weather cooperates...in my experiences the weather is the #1 factor over anything I do. If the weather doesn't cooperate, it's just going to be nearly impossible to have a good looking lawn. South Texas St Aug here so I guess I'm asking for a friend. :)

      It's less than 10k sq ft. Much cheaper for me to do it myself this way.

    Should have hydro-seeded. Watch some of GCI turf vids on the subject, comes out really good.
