- In this video, I unbox and test out the new yeswelder mig205DS-B. I had another one that was 2 years older. This one is a much improved version, and I look forward to using it.

I picked up one of these a couple months ago. Not sure if anyone has mentioned it already, but the 'window' when you open the side panel is a little bigger now, so there is more room/access to load the wire. You can easily access the area on the right (after the roller) where you insert it into the tube that feeds to the connector you attach the MIG gun too. So I guess they do listen!
The inductance feature is a very nice one to have as it allows one to dial in the arc characteristics when welding. It essentially controls the "arc on" time during the short circuit welding process. Going with the plus side allows one to lay down a bead that is more fluid and wet due to the extra arc on time. Conversely biasing the setting toward the negative side one can better adjust the arc and bead profile to be a little more stiff as when welding vertically or overhead.
I got a spool gun with my Lincoln that I have never used. I have never needed to weld aluminum yet but after watching this I may pull it out and try it on some scrap just to see how it works.
Just ordered a 205ds. Update next day says I'm getting a "B" unit, with discount applied and gracious shipper, I think I just got a fantastic deal. Can't wait to play with new toy. This is a really good utube that is full of information, thanks
I was looking for settings and you hit it right on. I really love the 205DS. I'm about to buy another just for aluminum because I don't want to have to switch out. Another point being very affordable. Honesty was the key for me in this one. Thanks.
Check my description for discount links. Thanks for the comment.
I THINK YOU DID A VERY GOOD SHOW< THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION AS I HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH THESE TYPES OF WELDERS> BUT ,WITH GOOD INSTRUCTORS LIKE YOU , I WILL LEARN! THANKS AGAIN
I got the 205D'S a few years ago. Between my old Lincoln setting chart, and a metric conversion chart I have been able to get around our mutual "old school" deficiencies. Restoring a 65 mustang, it has performed for me well. Now having the ability to work with aluminum as well, that's a plus.
Appreciate your honest reviews, blessings to you.
Man I have this welder and I am with ya. First time welding I thought, what the heck is it talking about? I am used to just speed and current. This is not easy to set up for each weld TBH and the instructions dont cover it. Love how it welds but 2 months in I am still super confused and just find myself guessing most things.
Awesome looking machine. I can see one in my future.
Excellent review of the old and new versions of the 205ds, thanks
I just got 205DS-B yesterday and ran a couple quick beads today. Very nice but I have a lot to learn about settings. You're video is great, the chart is starting to put tings in perspective. Will be emailing you in hopes you can sent it. Thanks for ayour video.
Great review ill be ordering one this week! Thanks for the input!
Thanks! Please use the links I provided in the description.
Thank you for putting this comparison together of these two machines. I just got a 205ds-B and have been very confused as to what the changes are...what features have been added and what has gone away. Another video talking about this machine specifics more in depth might be useful. Question: Does the new machine have any way to assign voltage and current based on metal thickness as did the original 205ds? Best regards.
the yes display is great!
Old school here to, wire speed and heat settings all I need
I have the YES welder plasma cutter and the 250 pulse tig. I like them but im just learning tig.
I just ordered one yesterday. I am going to be using it for bodywork, so I hope it's not too bad.
Hope you used my discount codes in the description.
Great little welder!
I'm like you on the access on the drive unit looks like it needs more room to replace part's the video is alright but I'll stick with my Hobart.
hi barry grate show so keep up with good work .👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍😄
Just got mine, great tutorial. Where did you get that chart ? its not in my manual or on their web site.
Glad I didnt see this video before I got it because I would have got the MP200, I don't need it but I have an over spending problem
Thanks again.
They emailed that to me.
Great demo as usual
Great review.
Thanks for a great review.
i have the same complaints with the 205d , i don't the metric system, its harder to get help from other welders because they always ask for my wire speed. They can't help me because i can't read the feed speed.
trying to swap the feed roller is a pain, a big time waster.
i'm done fighting with it, i plan on getting a primeweld 185.
Check out my review of the arccaptain mig 200
Hey, that reference sheet with the codes and their meanings, anyway you could share that? Yeswelder support is saying they don't have it. Trying to figure out all the settings! Would be much appreciated! Thanks for the video, had bought before I saw, and while a little wonky with the menus, not a bad welder for the price.
Send me an email. I’ll see if I still have it. Jodaddysgarage@gmail.com
Hummm, now I'm more confused. My Snap-on opens on the other side, an has a larger door. I guess I'm just use to old school welders. C-ya monday nite Barry.
Thanks for the reviews! I am looking at this B version against the 250 Pro. I have 220 in my garage but dig that you can do mobile work with the B. I don't plan on doing a bunch of heavy work, is there any reason to go for the Pro vs this B? Would love the MP200 at some point...
I would be comfortable using this for most of the work I do. Check the description for a discount link.
Is the speed (SPd on your machine) in meters per minute and not the USA common inches per minute?
I think that’s what they imply.
I don't get the difference between the SPd and the rin settings. in the code of operations, they are both for feeder speed. when I adjust SPd it doesn't change the feeder speed but when I adjust the rin it changes it. However, changing to SPd seems to change how my fcaw weld handles. Can someone explain the difference? I use the Mig 205ds welder (the black and red one on the video).
Nice video. Can you post the link to the code of operations and errors. Thanks
👍👍
where did you find the Code of Operation and error sheet? BTW great video thanks
They emailed it to me.
@@JoDaddysGarage thanks for the quick reply could you please share a link for it? Or email it? Tia
email me. jodaddysgarage@gmail.com
I'll see if I still have it.
I have the new 205 ds-b model do you have any idea why the black roller locking nut would keep backing off
Sorry, no.
Can you make a video using the tig function?
I don't have any argon.
Was thinking miller multi 215 as new to welding
These are decent welders just a little hard to understand the controls. Have a look at my arccaptain video. I also have discount codes in the descriptions.
Ty
How do you know if your model is the first generation. Or the “B” model?
First one was blue.
You keep collecting welders there will be no room for projects. 😂
Accurate. I have several other companies that offer them too.
Maybe a welder giveaway in the future. Probably a hassle to ship though.
What's up with that wobbly ass table?
Wobbly? 😂
Crap. Clicked on to see how to change liner. Brah
