Teacher here. Always, always, always let a child move ahead if the opportunity presents itself, regardless of their height or if their siblings (if they're twins or multiples) are moving up with them.
This happened quite a few years ago. If I remember correctly they did let her move up, but then at the end of the year they decided it was best if she was in the same grade as her sisters. So I think she redid it.
i was supposed to skip grades in elementary school because i was really far ahead, literally finishing the curriculum halfway through the year as i had learned to read at two and was always teaching myself math above my level. i was always bored and we think if i had been homeschooled i would likely have graduated at 13-15. my mom wouldn't let me skip any grades though and now i'm 15 and really wish i had been able to!
@@DanceMomsMadtrue and then in one of the episodes she was saying that school is boring so not sure if they made the right decision to keep her with her sisters
It's amazing how 4-year-olds are tested on letters and words. We don't teach that at kindergarten here in Germany, but put more attention to social and bodily development.
@@MiciFee97 I have my child in Kindergarten in Germany and I would say that it would be nice if they learn at least something, I wouldn´t say letters or numbers but themes, topics, than just playing the whole day and 10 minutes of circle time to count how many came and how the weather is. Children are capable of more learning than just picking their noses....
@@marianasebastian4585 They are gonna have to study, learn and worry about the rest of their lives. so let them play, they are going to learn them later anyway.
Teacher here. Poor kids, all kids. To expect 4s to know all their letters and numbers or they’re behind is ignoring natural development. There’s an optimal time for learning many things, and the average 4 needs another year before this level of knowledge should be expected. Bright kids? They’ll get it, but I’ve seen littles cry because they’re still 4 or 5 and being asked to do too much. As for skipping a grade, I’ve seen this, too. Academically they’re ready, but maturity is likely to trip them up somewhere along the line. Let them be. We used to do kindergarten right.
As someone who is in a early years education environment this is literally not how quickly a childs cognitive development should be. There natural development is being sped up and it is too much for a child. This juts makes me sad.
She should have been a grade ahead of her siblings all along. I know that when Covid was here it was difficult and such. But she should had stayed one ahead of her siblings because she would have been bored otherwise.
It’s just a year difference. I skipped a grade and got along way better with the new class. I am now the second youngest in my class and some are up to 3 years older than me, but it really doesn’t make a difference because we get along great anyways
You know how they have advanced classes ( AKA honors classes )each subject and they hwho are technically at the age where they’re would be starting kindergarten but there so far advance classes that they get put put in the advanced class and there still with the peer group but the work that they are doing is a lot more challenging. In my opinion schools should have to offer these kind of programs because they are able to be in an advanced class without having to worry about being picked on by there peers because they’re so much younger older than the other kids because he is technically at the age where he would be in 5th grade but he is so advanced that he was put in 6th grade classes for every class that he’s advanced and because the other kids are least a year or two older than him and sometimes he is so nervous that he has to really hard to get his work done.
This scares me. When the decisions are made to make the parent’s lives easier rather than doing what’s best for a child. ANY child on TV/internet is being exploited and they are not getting what’s best for them. Laws need to change. This is sad.

They are 9 now! She did one year ahead of her sisters but went back to the same grade with them the next year. She never needed an advanced curriculum after that first year.

This can be true, however siblings can be crucial in helping each others development and if they don’t have that, their grades could slip :)

You're spot on.
So? They should get smarter by learning letters
Here in Spain everyone gets to know letters at 4 just because they teach in a way that makes them easier, teaching slower is NEVER the right choice
