  • Watersnake T18S electric trolling motor speed test on a Hobie kayaks. This is run on a 35 AMP marine lead acid battery. The speed was fine with a low speed of 2 mph and 4 mph on fast setting. This built is for me to cover longer distances without tiring me out. The battery last anywhere from 2.5 hrs to 7 hours.

    Good test. 2-3 mph and 4 is perfect for most trolling. Will add one because I like idea of one line out lazy trolling and have hands and focus free on casting top water at same time. Keeping constant trolling speed is not easy and just boring without some casting.

      I agreed with the speed for trolling. It also helps when you have to cover long distance. Have fun with your little project and let us know how it goes. Tight lines

    Get a LiFePo4 lithium battery, about 1/3 of weight, no voltage drop, honest amp-hours.ALso, there's the 24lb thrust version of same motor. To better control speed, $20 PWM controller from ebay/amazon. To see consumption , $10 RC Power meter
    Bunch of us tristate yakers are on stripersonline

      +Rashid Karimov thanks for watching and I really appreciate the tips. I'm just a poor fishinerman..so $$ is an issue. Plus. I only use the motor when I really have to which is rarely.lol

      It works for a small kayak but bigger boat might feel like moving a barge.

    I saw one of those being used before. It's an interesting idea. Here in NC, you have to register your kayak if you use a trolling motor with it so I haven't bothered. Thanks for the demonstration!

    Here's where he fails.... "The battery last anywhere from 2.5 hrs to 7 hours.'" What he does not say and perhaps does not know .... is the fact that with a lead acid battery you are not suppose to drain the battery down all the way.... only 50% ...making his 35 ah battery a 17 1/2 hour battery.... if he did drain it, he now has a battery without much life left in it. The best and as far as I'm concerned the only way to go is with lithium.... it cost more but you get much more.... I have a 50ah BattleBorn and I can safely drain it down all the way if I so chose. You also get more life from lithium and it weighs 1/3 of what a lead acid weighs. Bite the bullet and buy lithium. Another good thing about the BattleBorn batteries is the fact that unlike some others you can get another one and combine them and double, triple the power.... I might buy another 50ah in the future giving me 100ah. Nice

      Yes lithium is better but titan is the best 😉 but ıt is all about the money unfortunatly. Both of them are expensive

    Great video! Could you do a video on how you build it? That would be great for your viewers like me. I would love to try this out on my kayak so I can venture out farthur. Thanks!

      Thanks for watching. There are so many built videos out there for reference i thought it wouldn't be necessary on my part. I'll put up some links.

    So why not the t24sw ?

    • @GillsNThrillsFishing
      @GillsNThrillsFishing  6 років тому

      T24sw would be great if you have a bigger yak and needs more power. The battery draw is the main reason I selected the T18s and also don't want to carry 60 lbs of battery on my yak. Lithium battery would help but too costly.

    This is very cool, I am considering getting one of these. How does it do in current? I fish on the Columbia River and it can get pretty tiring dealing with that current.

    Not sure if he understands the fact that since he has a lead acid battery of 35 amps.... he actually has only 17.5 useful amps.
    You are not supposed to draw these batteries down to 0. You can only do that with Lithium.

  • @redskeleton6020
    @redskeleton6020 Рік тому

    You have the motor backwards the whole time. You were actually in reverse. The prop isn't made to function that way. Your "speed test" is void for these facts.

    how stupid, giving a speed reading into a current. Would it not be smart to mention how much of a current your working against. Or do it on a flat tide
