- Documentary about the Gemini XI mission, entirely based on historical narration, mission audio and footage. The full mission is covered, showing training, Agena launch, Titan direct-ascent and Agena rendezvous, EVA, tether experiment, reentry and recovery.
Gemini 11 (officially Gemini XI) was the ninth crewed spaceflight mission of NASA's Project Gemini, which flew from September 12 to 15, 1966. Astronauts Charles "Pete" Conrad Jr. and Richard F. Gordon Jr. performed the first direct-ascent (first orbit) rendezvous with an Agena Target Vehicle, docking with it 1 hour 34 minutes after launch; used the Agena rocket engine to achieve a record high-apogee Earth orbit; and created a small amount of artificial gravity by spinning the two spacecraft connected by a tether. Gordon also performed two extra-vehicular activities for a total of 2 hours 41 minutes.

The footage was AI upscaled (Topaz AI) on some segments, besides the usual color correction. Ambient audio was recreated based on historical elements. Sequences are shown in proper mission context as much as possible.
Historical narration (from mission commentary, NASA documentaries and progress reports, and TV and radio broadcasts sourced from LM5 and Apollo16uvc are used in an attempt to capture the feeling of the times. Language and attitudes should be seen in that context.

Buzz Aldrin, on Gemini 12, made EVA look like a piece a cake, but underwater neutral buoyancy training, along with the addition of handholds and footholds made the EVA work a great deal easier.
Awesome, never see too much about this particular mission. Nice to see Pete and Dick building up that experience that would carry them through on Apollo 12 a few years later.
Thank you for making and posting these! The Gemini missions are so often glossed over as just something else that was done between the pioneering Mercury programme and the heroic Apollo programme. The reality is much more interesting!
Love the howl of the turbines prior to liftoff.
Gordon was soaked with sweat. He lost over 10lbs. after the mission was over. He said his feet were sloshing around in his own sweat in his boots.. That must have been quite a ride when they had the Agena burn to a 741 mile apogee..
I remember a video on UA-cam where they had Dick Gordon at some SciFi convention in Las Vegas to sign autographs. There was about a handful of people in his room, and he seemed to be having a good time chatting with them, and he could chat because there was no line. Meanwhile in the next room they had some Star Wars guy and the line for his autograph went around the block. That's America for you, where they'll ignore a real space man for one who played a space man in movies.
I have only one regret in life. I never got to meet any Gemini or Apollo astronauts.
Not being in the States was one thing, but I was too young if they did visit over here.
I wish I could meet Charles Duke.
This walk occured before Buzz taught NASA how to walk. Buzz would be out there for hours. He invented the training pool, and tools to secure the space walker to the vehicle. he couldn't apply leverage to anything in zero-g without imparting Newtons Law to himself. Without the proper anchor devices, you get one heck of a workout. Give it to this walker though. He pushed himself on that space walk harder than most people ever could. The learning curve was steep at times. And this mission wasn't the only Gemini mission to completely exaust the walker.
So they eventually sent up an MIT graduate.
Hi, can you explain more. Meaning the MIT graduate?
@@ramirezlensonjosephwhiteca5030 Alan Aldrin. Second man to set foot on the moon. Buzz knew the historical significance of being the first man on the moon. During planning, he actually proposed allowing himself to squeeze past Armstrong, to become the first man on the moon. Although it was planned for Niel Armstrong (Mission Commander) to step out first, as he was closest to the door. This left a sour taste with the rest of the Apollo astronauts. Wally Schirra thought he was arrogant. But Buzz was competent, and highly intelligent. He went to the Michigan Institute of Technology. He didn't actually get the full degree, as he had opted to join the military. He studied astrophysics.

simulated their own gravity field in the 60's? The Gemini program holds onto secrets i am not sure they will ever admit to.
Gemini and Titan 2 look the same!
First!:) Fantastic thanks!~
The fake scratches and dust specks added to the film are hilariously bad.
Skip them next time.
God save their souls. It was not their fault.
What wasn't their fault?
