  • I’ve recently started selling some of my lures. All of the ones I’m selling currently are lipless crankbaits so in this lure making video I decided it was about time to make a traditional crankbait. Didn’t catch any fish. The rivers were blown out flooded and muddy. Still pretty early in the year though too.

I couldn’t cast that beautiful crank bait into those unknown muddy waters. I would have rather sat back on the river bank with a cold bottle of Miller Beer and enjoy the scenery and my lure creation. Thanks for the video.

Probably one of the best lure making videos I've watched, been out fishing all day, walking up and down the canal (uk) not a fish in sight, but great weather loads of nice people to talk to , a very chilled day and a video to capture my mood, no fish but content 👍

Nice work. I would love to hear a commentary from you while you work as apposed to the music but we've already been over that... still a great video. I liked the clamps on your spinner, nicely done. I also like the technique of installing the eyes on the master and tracing them to make sure you get them in the right place. I would guess that like me you've probably drilled a lure only to decide "boy I really hate that eye placement" and then had to fill and drill again. place and trace technique eliminates that potential problem. Lastly using the ink pens, I do that too and it makes it super easy to get detail exactly where you want it. Gorgeous bait and well done!

Yes I’ve definitely made a few cross eyed baits. Yeah the pens to me are way easier and quicker than stenciling and airbrushing those small details.

I think making masters is the way to go, easier to produce another especially if it's a great catcher. Brilliant as usual.
Have you tried Polyester Resin for the lure instead of Alumite? Polyester Resin is so much cheaper. I used it for years repairing boats plus I've cast all sorts with it. My mate created a fantastic scull, he added dies to it but didn't mix them in for a nice effect which worked, he also tattooed for years so he probably used inks but I can't remember for definite.
I purchase it from a company close by, it was around £70.00 for 20kg + hardener 10 years ago.
The last Batch I purchased was £18.00 for 4 kg I think but I can't remember the hardener cost, that was 2 1/2 years ago.
You can make it go off in 10 minutes if you add enough hardener but it doesn't take much especially in heat.
You could still paint then finish with your preferred top coat resin. It would be worth trying I think and you could purchase a small batch to test.

I might give that a shot because like you said that alumilite isn’t very cheap.

@@TreysArt I would doubt most commercially sold lures are made from the expensive stuff. Worth a shot I think.

I'm into catfishing but I am very interested in your work not to compete bc I couldn't match your skill ...My Uncle was high up at General Motors but his hobby was he was considered a master wood carver .....I live in KY where four major rivers meet the Ohio TN Cumberland and dump into the Mississippi and I think lures of your quality would sell just bc people would show them off.....I HV a bandsaw a dewalt scroll saw and many tools you have but your airbrush work is amazing in itself......I'm 55 I was a flooring installer and can't perform my job anymore and was looking at what to do thought of this but once I saw your work I felt intimadated an I understand most people take offense to a guy doing what they do ......would you HV any advice where a niche might be in the fishing world? I'm not looking for a get rich ideal I am looking to pay my bills I have no debt and trying to pay basic bills ....My town Mayfield Ky was hit by a F4 that destroyed our jobs this tornado set a state record by being on the ground 128 miles.....So I'm trying to find away to pay bills I own three Jon boats first started messing with surface drives for shallow water for duck hunters but it's to much maschine work .....I'm curious as to how you learned to do what you do.....I live simple sort of a homestead lifestyle I was just so impressed with your work your humor and honesty .....my email is countryboykip1967@gmail.com ...jus wondered if you HV any advice ore see any other openings in the fishing world ......I see things but it's hard to do slot when your down on cash .....My father built wooden duck boats in the 50s and bought a new 57 chevy so I do know imagination skill and hard work is key I'm just amazed at your work I've never seen such good work .....I'm curious about the mould making bc I'm working on bullets for non lethal guns and your method would work but I've only seen a small amount I just subscribed to your channel yesterday and spent half my day saying ......look at this one.....to my wife .....any advice appreciated if not I completely understand .....I HV video equipment drones ect bc I collect and restore old chainsaws but last year realised I may need to fish to eat .......We took a huge hit with that storm I've been cutting firewood to help myself but with 100cc saws that's becoming hard to buy gas oil an chain......again great work your a true artist and a natural for your channel ....myself I'm so old it's hard for me to understand just how you tube operates.....thanks again for such good videos I hope to hear some advice even a word of hope at this point lol

Hey man everything you said really hit home. I’ve pretty much been an entrepreneur my whole life looking for a way to make it on my own so I completely understand the struggle and yes I’m very aware of the hit mayfield took. My best advise I feel I could give is what’s currently working for me, and it’s not lure making. Lure making is a hobby for me as well as my UA-cam channel. Not saying you can’t make a living doing either but it’s a tough long road that requires a ton of consistency. What’s working for me money wise is reselling on eBay. Basically I go to thrift stores like goodwill and hand pick underpriced items and clothing based on supply and demand. Pay low and sell high. It takes a little learning to get going but honestly in all my years of trying just about everything in the book, this has been the most successful for me so far. The great thing about it is that it’s remote. You could live in the middle of nowhere and do this because everything is sold online. It’s honestly a numbers game. The more items you have available for sale the more sales you will make. Ok now with all that being said lol. As far as lure making is concerned you want to first and foremost enjoy doing it. That will get you pretty far alone. Second thing is watch others like myself, marling baits is amazing and there’s a ton of others out there that give great ideas. That’s pretty much how I learned everything. I could give advise on what you could do to start making money with lures but honestly I feel like I’d be leading you down the wrong path. Like I said it is possible to make money doing it but it’s not easy at all if your livelihood depends on it. I hope this helps and I wish you all the luck buddy. Tight lines!!!

Thank you so much for your advice I had thought of buying and selling ....I junked a warrior four wheeler and I told my wife it hit me that the cdi computer is worth a hundred on line as well as so many things I see I HV that's junk to me but to a man needing it it's valuable .....I HV done good with big saws and some might be worth more in parts bc they are so rare but great ideal and I call good advice something told to me that I've felt a tug at myself to do .....I just saw your big lures and thought back when I had money I'd prolly paid good money just to show it off.....I am fairly talented I hope I can say that without sounding like ego but my problem is I like alot I HV a ton of tools and I'm the guy who looks at something and says we'll I can build that which is great but a lack of focus keeps a man with a ton of unfinished work....I detail my saws like you do a lure bc I enjoy it but I enjoy all types of things good clean honest things .......I appreciate you taking time out of your busy day I watched three of your videos last night and decided I gotta learn to airbrush if for no other reason than my saw but again thank you I sent your video to Brentwood TN where the rich live bc my friend is retired and loves to fish .....he sent back a Wow ......nice man he paid my home off bought my wife and I dentures and is sending me a bunch of rods a nice depth finder ....not all my friends our losers ......I once owned the number one google rated carpet cleaning CO in Hendersonville TN a town connected to Nashville he sold cleaners and chemicals and became a friend seven years ago so I always reach out to people that try in life and I watch tons of stuff but you really hv a cool channel work wise and personality .....top notch
