    Celine Dion was widely viewed as being one of the great voices of the 20th century. The only others routinely put in the same category as her were Barbara Streisand and Judy Garland. Celine Dion was so highly regarded that she had her own show on the Las Vegas Strip. She performed to sold out shows for years and years and years.

    • @shopwornbear1171
      @shopwornbear1171 Рік тому +2

      @@PDC1987 I will add to this; she was at the top of her game when she took up her first residency, the very first artist to do so. While it's since degenerated into a has-been festival of medleys and old hits, keep in mind Adele is still churning out hit records (as was Celine when she first took to a Las Vegas stage) and making a ton of people happy that would normally could or would not have had the opportunity to have seen her. I'm no fan of Adele, but use her as an example as a counter-argument to your statement. FYI, Celine made this very bold move back in the early 2000's so she could be available to her kid at the time, and give him a semi-normal life. Adele, same deal. Different artists have different reasons for Vegas, and sadly, PDC1987, you are correct in it not being prestigious at all, and Celine should have stopped at her last very prestigious Las Vegas show before resuming them, again, and again, and again, becoming less prestigious and more ridiculous with each incarnation.

If you want to hear something less ballady - check out Unison from her very FIRST album. It's a super fun dance number with even a little bit of rap in it. Treat Her Like a Lady also shows the grit in her voice - and is edgier. Enjoy the ride! Cheers from Canada :)

    I have been fortunate to meet her 3 times in person and play the piano on one of her concert at last minute the pianist was sick and she was performing in a concert in my city. She is wonderful also because she stays grounded to the important values in life. Sorry for my bad English. I am from Quebec in Canada

    Haha! Good vidéo réaction. Céline has been singing professionally since 1981 when she was 12. Her whole family is into music. She was from an era when all the legends were still alive, she is French Canadian and started singing old school love songs, and then got into the us market, and transitioned into an international singer. She has both a French speaking and an English speaking career. She doesn’t write her own songs, but has composers and writers who propose songs for her to choose from. She might have been born blessed with good vocal chords and energy, but she also is an athlete of the vocal chords and trains every day. There’s no real magic ingredient to her skills. But then again you have to factor in the genetics. She also is a big fan of aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, barbra Streisand, Franck Sinatra, etc… to me her singing style is really gospel inspired with some hard rock way of singing plus some old fashion French singing songs. She’s probably the Ferrari of singing. But then again I don’t think she can quite pull a deep voice like aretha Franklin, and have the sound of Whitney’s Houston and other gospel inspired singers. Every singer has strength and weaknesses. But I am nitpicking here, she’s still a Ferrari ;)

    The recurring musical refrain is a Rachmaninoff riff from his Concerto #2 in C Minor...so is the piano bridge.
    She lost her husband, and performed this live for the first time after his death, and it is a tidal wave of emotion and searing vocals...should the spirit move you...watch it...I recommend you do so alone and with a box of Kleenex...just saying.
    Her husband was her manager from the age of 12...they married when she turned 18 I think. Dispite the May December age gap, it was a very long and successful marriage. Just a little background...
    She's spectacular live.
    I'm glad you gave this women a listen...one of Canada's greatest exports. You understood her talent immediately...like you always do!
    Another great reaction MD!
