I feel a bit guilty sipping coffee at home while you did all the work climbing stairs and rocks for that great view. 😀 What a great time to be in Thailand.
Went there 2010. We stayed in one of little blue huts on the island at the end of the beach (14:21 in your video). There were a handful of ppl there (October the 'rainy' season) and they left and eventually the restaurant closed in the evening (we were the only people there by then) and the staff left and we were the only ppl on the whole island for the night. We fell asleep on the sandbar under the moonlight (too many Changs LOL) and eventually woke up and crashed in our (very basic) hut on the hill. It was pretty magic.
@@SideTripLife you're welcome. Thailand has been fantastic last year without tourists, and there are still relatively empty islands and beaches. We're on arguably the most beautiful island in Thailand that isn't in a national Park (although it's surrounded by one) - and we've been to pretty well every island (except the one off Pattaya and Phi Phi because they are too over-developed). Glad you got to see Nang Yuan without thousands of other people - enjoy it all while you can. It won't last, sadly.
capacity restrictions have been happening here around favorite natural attractions in the Austin, TX area. Because of the internet things have gotten overrun and it had to be done to protect the environment. I'd favor some capacity restrictions but not excessive fees for farangs. Small fees targeted at protecting and maintaining natural areas is appropriate, like the sunscreen restrictions to protect marine areas. One good thing about the "situation" is that all of these places have had a respite from human activity and a chance to restore themselves. That restoration should be preserved. As the years go by more travel destinations will become available and Thailand hopefully won't be so overrun.
Yeah good luck with that. They just reopened Maya Bay (with restrictions) and it's still filling up with the kind of idiot tourists who see somewhere on UA-cam (or Game of Thrones) and want to copy it rather than actually thinking for themselves. The only way to stop this is by limiting daily numbers. It works in National Parks like Similan but TIT and greed plus lack of education means there's a longtail driver for every tourist who wants to go somewhere...until they ruin it. Vloggers are actually part of the problem for a number of reasons I can't be bothered going into.
Firstly, you've made a fantastic travel series which makes it feel like you're there. Well done! I won't be back in Thailand for quite some time so thanks for the virtual tour of some Thai islands. However, in response to your picture of before and after in terms of the crowds, do you really think mass tourism will return to Thailand or anywhere else for that matter? Personally, I think mass tourism world-wide is over. The virus is part of our lives now, and as much as people want it to go away, it never will. Governments just have to work out how to let in the right amount of tourists and deal with the consequences of another outbreak. This is happening in Europe as we speak.
Brilliant video as always. Out of curiosity what's the coldest temperature you experienced back home in BC and would you ever go back? I know if I was lucky enough to live in Thailand I'd stay. The climate, the people, the vistas....it has it all.
Thanks R B., also for watching and commenting as always, appreciated! Worked at Whistler for a bit and also skied a lot so actually loved winters back in BC. Ideally if one could have 2 homes and split time between the West and Thailand that might be perfect. However, I feel very fortunate to be fulltime in Thailand and to get back home for visits (usually;)
@@SideTripLife Being from Ireland we don't get 'extremes' beit weather or flora and fauna. Can I quickly ask have you ever stood beside a Giant Redwood or Sequoia? I happen to binge watch Nat Geo and it fascinates me no end as we don't get those extremes of nature.
I wouldn't be surprised if tourism won't come back in those numbers, anytime soon. And maybe for the better, let it gradually pick up to acceptable numbers. Who will tell (time will 😊).
I think a restriction of numbers should happen everywhere, not just in Thailand. Mass tourism had gotten out of hand before covid, after it seems a good time to have a bit of a rethink. It's overly polluting too and things like Airbnb have priced locals out of renting in places like Barcelona. If it means I can't go to some places then so be it.
I agree 100%. Mass tourism was destroying a lot of places and I'm glad it's over. However, what bars, restaurants and clubs should survive and which should go? It seems a great time to visit Thailand now if you don't want many other people.
Nit noi... (just a few on the islands thus far, moreso Samui). Having said that it can get 'busy-ish' depending where you are. For example, on KPG tourists or no, Sri Thanu and Haad Chao Pao can get busy at sunset (+ Zen gets drumming and gonging of course;) and over on Samui better get to Coco Tams Bophut early on the weekend as all seats will be taken. Haad Rin just had a Full Moon 'lite' party and a couple hundred showed up. But it will take time to get back to 'normal' of course and still may be subdued. Really hope it picks up for biz and local people who absolutely need tourists back but will selfishly miss the quiet...)
Beautiful amazing video great shooting good you did a nice job my dear friend thank you for sharing Big Big Like ☺🇮🇹🇮🇹🌴👍👍👍
Mamma Ochai looks the right place to be in Turtle Island... i know where i Will stay next time there... gracias por los videos!!!
Nice video again ! And the choice between no tourists and too many is a hard one. Hope there will be found a middle road.
Last time when I was there it was houndreds of people at the island/beach. now its so calm and cozy
Many thanks for showing reasonably priced bungalows , its a great help for planning a budgeted visit.

Thank you Edward. Actually enjoyed the climb with the view as reward, glad you enjoyed it too, so the pleasure was ours, cheers!

Cheers Jimmy! Btw, I like to keep it simple by just using a phone to film but may break my KISS rule and get an external mic back in Bangkok

Thx JC. Hoping the fact that we do indeed need to learn to live with it helps us return to somewhat normalcy.

See you soon STL
I think Mama Ochai has the right idea.
Absolutely :)
Remember that song you can check in but you never can leave?😊

I was in koh tao 20 years ago and I kayaked to this island and I’m sure there was nothing there then - no building, no pontoons etc.

I know this drastically reduces the likelihiid of me ever seeing these beaches and swimming there, I'm 100% in favour of restrictions.

Have you noticed any tourists arriving since Thailand opened up on 1st?
