- The Ides of March, the Roman name for March 15th, has passed into infamy as the date that Julius Caesar was assassinated. The phrase has become a byword for treachery, conspiracy and intrigue--but before Caesar was killed, the Ides of March was a surprisingly lighthearted Roman holiday devoted mostly to getting drunk out in nature. Et tu, brute?
Join us to explore the pre- and post-Caesar history of this most famous of days on the Roman calendar.

Watching on March 15😊
This channel is amazing, can’t believe it’s a relatively small one. Please do one on the complexities of gladiator fights, particularly as punishment. I think it’s incredibly interesting how people could be condemned to fight, but most docs on UA-cam tend to focus on the intricacies of combat. I’d love to see more about the political structure of the fights. Please keep up the great work!
We’ve been researching the role of gladiatorial combat as a method of capital punishment in the Roman “judicial system” - we will definitely prepare something on this in the future.
Love this channel so much. Great vid
Thank you! So glad that you found it useful!
I just learned this today, Blessed Be.
Lisa: Beware the Ides of March!

GAIO GIULIO CESARE, DIVINO E IMMORTALE, LA SUA GLORIA VIVRÀ PER SEMPRE 💪
Fascinating!
👍
I think the significance of the date to the assassination goes even further than the presenter describes. Caesar changed the calendar, after he got back from Egypt. That he brought the Egyptian Queen was insult enough but now he imposed the Egyptian calendar. I think it was the final straw. The assassins chose the date especially to make this point.
day i was born
Hey Tribunate...
Was Brutas also?!
The Ides have arrived.
But not yet passed… (today is the only day I can say this)
So the Roman's also had spring break...
