    Here is my first episode in a new series I'm calling ''Gymnastics Foundation''. These are gonna be in a longer format, since I find it more fun to create videos where I can really take my time to explain exactly what I think about the exercises, and my reasoning for doing them the way I do. This is simply my advice for how you can get the best results based on what has worked for me and the people I coach.       Hey Sid, very informative video. Great job!
      One question. Am i correct to assume that the chin up (supinated grip) is an easier variation compared to a pull up (pronated grip) when developing the right technique and strength in the movement as a beginner? I assumed this as I find it harder to get my chest to the bar and hold it for seconds in a pullup more than a chinup. Would you consider a pull up a harder variation than a chinup when gettimg the chest to bar?

    *UPDATE: One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that it can also be beneficial to work static holds in the top position of the chin up or pull up. This. would ideally be done before you start working on eccentrics (hold between 15-30 seconds)

    Excellent chin/pull-up instruction especially for desk workers who hunch and need to protract the shoulders and retract. Keep up the great work!

    I loved how you shed some light on balanced training for general fitness "health" vs. training for specific skills "performance" or purpose. This point is often ignored, I must say!...
    Probably you can dedicate a video to explain the gains and sacrifices associated with some exercises?

    Hi Sid, as always great video, congrats! I am thinking about trying both hollow body and arched back pull up, but what about L sit pull up which are vastly used in many pull up progression? It entails PPT so basically hollow body. Should you strive to retract even with PPT or do you suggest other progression to keep the arched form? Thank you!

    Thank you so much for this tutorial. I am struggling for years with proper pullups form and my problem was excessive lower back arching. And I was not aware of this..but in this way I developed anterior pelvic tilt, which is terrible for athlete, ruins your running form, etc. So, now I still do arch my lower back, during chin ups, but, trying not to "sink" my head between the shoulders, but instead keep it high, exending upward with top of the head. It really acticates my core, obliques and glutes, and reduces the lower back arching. What is your opinion about this? The head high vs head "sink"?

      I like to fully elevate the shoulders in the bottom (sink down) and then fully depress the scapula at the top (pull up) which moves the scapula through it's full range of motion!

    What is your thoughts on chin/pull ups using rings?
    I'm use to doing them on a bar, but have been trying out rings for the past week.
    I feel that it hits my biceps/shoulders way more than on a bar, but also feel less engagement in the back - Possibly I'm just doing them with incorrect form :)

      Since the rings are less stable I find people tend to compensate more using the arms. Which is why I prefer the bar. But if you have the control rings are awesome as well. The ability to rotate the rings can also be more pleasant for the shoulders and wrists! :)

      At this point I would prefer a more arched position. More useful for most people. But, both offer value.

    Hello Sid,I’d like to ask you one thing about that arching in lower back while going up. Doesn’t it put a lot of stress in your lower back?
    My personal trainer told me that you should be totally relaxed in lower back if you want to do this exercise in so retracted form.Thanks for answer and good video. :)

      Having an Arched back can put more stress on the lower back. BUT if you have a healthy and strong lower back, then it can handle it. Personally I squeeze the glutes really hard, and the lower back "slightly" to stabilize the mid-section. I find a relaxed lower back places more stress and can result in pain and discomfort. Try both and see which you find the most comfortable, it tends to be quite obvious as you try it! Thanks for the comment 💪

    Umm, what technic I have to fix if after pullups or chinups, I feel some pain in elbow?

      Choose an easier progression and follow the technique in the video. Focus on retraction, pulling the elbows back and utilizing the back. If that still hurts start with ring rows or something similar!

    Why does the internet say a chinup is palms facing towards u and a pull up is palms facing away from u

    you re posting to many begginer videos and no pre advanced - advanced reffered videos. Push ups and chin ups are a waste of time for more of us.
    Continue with hard static moves presenting gymnastic way and technique to learn them

      I disagree. Can't post to many videos helping people learn the basics. And who exactly is "most of us" who are you speaking for? Chin ups and pull ups are the pillars of advanced Gymnastics strength and are never a waste of time, you just need to know how to use them. I appreciate your comment, but I will continue to publish the content I feel drawn to create. Not what others tell me to!:)

      @@sidpaulson1 im just saying that there are to many said about a simple pull up or push ups.I think there are no neccesary to debate this subject anymore:How to do a pull up:)) Its probably that sounds to basic for me, and i want something different to see. (Like you know, in this period everyone posts about home workout to make views, its absolutely annoying:)))

      I disagree, again. I continually see people perform pull ups in an incorrect manner according to their goals.
      More people are going to benefit both in terms of performance health and longevity from improving their chin ups than learning a straddle Planche...
      If you want more advanced videos I would recommend you check out Simonsters UA-cam channel or Gabo Saturno.
      In the future... Instead of telling me that i'm posting the "wrong" videos. Simply make a request for a specific video you would like to see, with a nice attitude! And I will do it at some point! :)
