So sorry Hope’s not pregnant. I was sure hoping. Oh well, she’ll just have to wait. Your garden in the high tunnel is looking fabulous. Sure hope you’re gonna have a great harvest. I hope Gina has stocked up on canning supplies. They are getting hard to find, according to a lot of homesteaders. I don’t have good memories of Sonotubes. We used them as columns, as part of scenery, on stage. They were really tall. We were painting them & one blew over. I put up my arm to block it & it broke both bones in my arm, right above the wrist. Had to have surgery & now have a plate in my arm. It sometimes bothers me when it rains. When in Sea Bees (Navy Construction Battalion ) when starting a build project use what called batter boards basically the 4 corners layed out tbe battr bosrds would set back from where digging would happen putting string lines always easy to put and take down as needed always have reference points

The farm looks so amazing and beautiful. The low spot in your pasture that is always the last to dry up. Why not build a small pond and stock it up with fish you like to eat?
Congrats to the ladies that had babies. Don't be sad that Hope didn't get pregnant this time around, it just wasn't her time. I'm sure she will be the next time.

I think that big rain event you had a few days ago was Tropical Storm Fay that came up the East Coast and to the west of your location. Fingers crossed about this coming week.
I saw a chicken tractor implement on Sow the Land channel that he uses to move his chicken tractor similar to yours. You might want to take a peek at it. It's green steel with four small wheels I think about 7 inches but I could be wrong. Anyway, I thought you might want to check it out for your two tractors.

Put a board over the top of each tube, for the rain might push the bag into the tube with it;s weight! Then put the bag over it!
We usually leave our does in with the buck for two heat cycles but the thing is that you’ve had great success doing it the way you have. So do what ever you feel is best. Bummer that she didn’t take this time but next spring will be exciting. There will be a lot of baby goats at Lumnah Acres. Oh man can’t wait :)
My little buck and Hope would go well together. My buck has blue eyes as well. Can’t wait to see if we get some blue eye babies from him. His momma had really nice milking qualities. Anyhow.

Good day. When I have a goat in heat, I bring it to the buck and wait to see it bred. When one doesn't get pregnant, I leave it with a buck for four weeks; just like Wead - em & Reap do. Sometimes I leave it for seven weeks. You always got to check if the bucks do not have too much hair; some do.

We live in South Central IL. and we get really cold winters most years but not a lot of snow. Because of the cold, we always breed our herd in early Oct. as well. We have 25 Kiko doe's and put the buck in w/them for a month at that time. We have only had one that didn't take on the first heat, but they cycle quickly if the buck is with them and she got pregnant on the second heat. It is so funny because our Mama's always kid within about 5 days of each other in the Spring. With it being Hope's first time, she may have had to stay with him a little longer. She will get there. Disappointing I know, but she will be a great Mama. You have a beautiful herd.

BTW. Gina looks so much happier now that she is working at home and on the homestead full time. Maybe be some harder work but she looks more at ease and happy.

I would suggest you put a ridged cap over the sonotubes (plywood or 5 gal bucket top) prior to the garbage bag. This will keep the water or small animal weight from collapsing the top.
Batter boards are good for keeping reference lines close to construction.

I was thinking HOPE was pregnant, next spring will be very entertaining! Regarding the new project, I think you need more out buildings. Possibly an actual barn. Cows, anyone?! You have plenty of circuits left in the other building to install lights in the new building.

Awww...so sorry that my favorite goat on your farm is not pregnant :( Maybe that's Ivy has adopted Hope. I really love Hope, and can't wait until she has babies of her own. That little IVY is such a happy little kid. She's stealing my heart too! THAT UDDER ON BUTTERCUP IS AMAZING! I think even Crystal on Blue Cactus Dairy Goats would be envious!
1/2" or larger rebar makes a better stake than wood. Much easier to drive in the hard ground like you have. Also if you drill a hole through them and use duplex nails they make great stakes for form boards is you pour any concrete slabs. I almost forgot, buy some protective caps so no one can get impaled if they happen to fall on one of them.

I would look for buckets to cover them with. If the rain collects, it could cause the bags to go into the holes like that last one.
