One of her best songs. Haunting.

It is Greatness in the gentle way she describes so simply about her friends doing away with themselves (from a Survivor of four suicides in my Family).

I've always loved her voice. Great song. I still have this album on vinyl.

What a stylist -- this woman was. No one at this time sang like her. She wrote originally, she performed originally, she loaded it up with potent creativity and she was quite good. Even the late jazz great Art Pepper recorded with her and many huge artists have covered her songs including Ray Charles. This track is jazzy and in a Dixieland style.
The only singer who came close to sounding like Melanie years later was the female singer with Lick the Tins -- who covered Elvis' "Can't Help Falling In Love," and for a long time I thought it was Melanie.

Agreed, it's a song that almost demands to be sung sometimes.

For a few years my boys thought Melanie was their Mum, as they shared a strong resemblance. Even now if my eldest, now 25yrs, hears a Melanie song he asks if it is "Mummy".
