One of the few times button mashing has meaning other than a cheap challenge. It makes you feel like you did 10k punches after you're done.
I love the art style of this game. We’ve never really seen anything like it since. Instead of a pagan pantheon to kill, it’s cybernetic demigods influenced by Hindu and Buddhist spirituality. And that goes for the normal enemies and the setting as well. It’s clearly futuristic, but the robot soldiers are all amalgamations of different images and beings in Hindu and Buddhist art. It’s all very strange, especially to a westerner like me(and I’d suspect most of us watching), but it’s utterly fascinating to see.
Enslaved Odyssey to the West had an art style that's similar if youre looking for more like that.
its not futuristic. the Gods are robots created by an advanced intelligence. Same way we can say some Gods in Marvel are aliens.

One of my fave things about this game....is Lliam O'Brian as Asura. The guy just always ends up voicing angry anti heroes (Illidan/War) and he is so perfect here.

BTW, if you find some QTEs are too hard to hit, like at 1:21:00, its because the QTEs are designed to run at 30 fps, so doubling the fps to 60 means doubling the amount of inputs/halving the reaction time needed for QTEs. Its not an issue for most of them, but if you dont want it to be an issue again a good middle ground is to limit your fps to 45 using a framelimiting software. It's still ALOT smoother than 30 fps and the QTEs function better.

This game deserves a remaster so badly. Or, at bare minimum, a re-release. I pray to Asura that we can get either, may his angry punching make it so someday. Can't wait to see the rest of this play through, Max.

Nah, Capcom needs to straight up remake this game for a new generation. Could you imagine an Asura’s Wrath remake on the RE Engine, with the team behind DMC 5 working on the combat system? That would be FIRE!
This whole "game" was a cutscene and I still need a sequel. I played one episode per day and it was amazing.
I mean what would they even do for a sequel? It had the perfect happy ending that fit with its story so a sequel would ruin it tbh
Maybe another game made by the same people with similar mechanics yet it’s own great story and characters would be good too.

The best part about this is Max giving it more recognition, Asura's Wrath is such a Hidden Gem.

The fact this game came out and was received by critics so poorly, yet the entire line of Telltale games were praised shows the bias in the industry. This game was a spectacle.
What kind of bias? I seem to remember people not caring for this because they were expecting a god of war or dmc
also, the reason this game have a really heavy backlash was that the ending was behind a dlc that was expensive at the times.
The ending being behind a paywall takes any praise that this game could get, honestly. So it wasn't really biased. I've completed asura 100% and it's a fantastic story, but still the paywall and the weak gameplay takes it from being a "masterpiece"
the pacing annoyed me, not the actual in game pacing, but how everything was split into episodes with previews and pointless menus. I get what it was going for, but it's not needed for a game. Also paying for ending absolutely is a terrible decision.
@@gabrielcamiloanunciatodeol2566 The reason for that is because it was supposed to be a sequel, but after the poor reception, they realized it couldn't be made, so they pushed out a DLC to finish the game.
Reincarnated Asura should be a Street Fighter playable character.
We got a taste of it with the DLC and Kage has an Asura skin in SFV, but I do just want a dedicated bonus character lol Maybe in a future MvC
Asura's Wrath was one of the main reasons I followed Max. The fact he's playing it again is filling me up with nostalgia and HYPE!!!!!!

Absolutely! This game almost single-handedly got me interested in Eastern spirituality and mythology. Which I have to add that if you understand that, it adds an extra layer of depth to what they were able to pull off here. Outside of the anime spectacle, they've reinvented Ashura from a Luciferian figure to a badass Byronic cyborg hero that takes on divine, absolute deities (Gongen means "incarnation", as in the reincarnated Buddha) with only pure rage. And then it reinterprets these omnipotent gods as supremely advanced, technological beings, which not only makes for an interesting sci-fi hook but also makes them as fallible as they are OP. A masterpiece on so many levels
One of the few games that made me cry, great to see it getting some well deserved attention here. While the gameplay is definitely flawed everything else is absolutely stellar… it will probably hold up even years from now. Capcom really needs to port it to modern consoles. And yeah PLEASE put Asura in a fighting game already lol

*Gameplay held this game back from its true shine but man if you just so happen to give it a shot or a random play to see whats up you messed around and found a gem. Story and cut scenes were just anime in pure form but your playing it in a game….shit was so hype I still have Max old play through in my favorites on UA-cam* 🔥😤🔥
The fact that Asura and Godhand Gene have not been in a capcom vs game yet is a complete tragedy

This is a game I really wish would get a remaster and rerelease on all platforms for good measure. Never played it, but did hear about and saw it before on UA-cam and always thought it looked cool as hell. Definitely would play it if remastered, just for the sheer fun of it.

Liam O'Brien just blowing away all the scenery with his soft baritone voice. I like him as War in the Darksiders series but he really gets to shout here.

This game is so one of a kind its spectacle is amazing. definetly up there as one of my favorite games.
it would have been lit if the opening sequence effected the rest of the game. like depending on how many you kill the amount of fodder in all the later episodes changes
The next Marvel vs Capcom needs some of the Asura's Wrath characters vs the Eternals or something. The similarities between them opens up so many possibilities for interesting interactions, comparisons and endings.

It's crazy how this game has a relatively limited sound track, but the tracks are incredible and fit epic moments perfectly. This is a true clut classic, just unlocked the secret mission last night after powering through to S rank on a few of the missions. Gotta say, the game is so satisfying you're almost always left wanting more after every play through

This game's art direction was incredibly unique even by today's standards. Hindu mythology + Sci-Fantasy + Gurren Lagann levels of Ungga McBungga.
The episodic part of it has always been a real let down. Its like they saw what Telltale was doing and went "we can make money from that"
Nah the episodic aspect is to give the player the feeling he's playing an anime. With each level being an anime episode. You can really see it when they give you a sneakpeek of the next episode at the end of each level. The only thing missing would an opening and ending starting every time you start and finish a new chapter. But I guess that would get old real quick.

Asura's Wrath can be defined as that feeling when you have to wake up for a 6am flight and you have one of those noisy 5hr trips you're stuck at the back for.
