- Although chopped into chunks, the full playlist is best watched straight through to get what happened that day. I can't remember who gave me the original video and I hope it is OK to have put it up on UA-cam.
Filmed in probably the mid 1980s by Mícheál Ó Súilleabháin, as research for his PhD, this video very nearly didn't happen - Tommie Potts rang up Peter O'Loughlin saying that he was being pestered by this lad wanting to interview him for his thesis, and that he really wasn't inclined; Peter persuaded Tommie to acquiesce and here we are, many decades later, with some wonderful footage, not only of Tommie playing, but also of him talking, explaining, and answering questions from Mícheál. That said, the questions are just the slightest bit designed and tailored to back up Mícheál's theories as to why Tommie played as he did, all neatly sidestepped in inimitable Tommie Potts fashion.
The end result - how lucky are we that this was filmed and still exists...!
Brilliant to see these clips
Many thanks for this, Ronan. Hope all is well with you, Kenny, [ Aberdeen ].
Thanks a million Ronan...Powerful, unique...magic...!
Nice to see some video of the great man. I've had his vinyl LP for years but never been able to get anywhere near his style.
This is magic! Is the recording a semitone sharp, or did Tommie Potts really tune his fiddle up a half step?
So interesting!! And, helpful for us amateur enthusiasts. Thank you for posting this 🎶
Wow, this is great! Thank you1
he's too creative and advanced to want to stay in the square box of a tune
