    Dear all, thank you for watching this, and I wish to apologise for a small slip of tongue. At about 28:45 or so I supposedly said fuel carrying capacity as 3000 Kg, it was actually litres as came out clearly while talking about drop tanks. The aircraft is actually calibrated in Kgs, but I wanted to keep the units of internal fuel and drop tank as same, hence while the figure got converted, the units came out as Kg because I’m probably used to saying it in Kgs, because of my Mirage-2000 habit. Sorry about that if it caused any confusion. Hope you correct it in your mind as well and pardon me for that. Warmly

      Sir I think there are also 2x1200 litres tank now on both side and middle hardpoint can carry 800litre or 725litres ext. Tank. Which is 2.6 tons so can it be used in combat with this configuration.
      3 fuel tanks & 4 hardpoints for astra missiles. Hal is working on dual missile pylons which will carry 2 missiles on one 2nd outermost hardpoints of both side.. it will also carry elta israeli jammer pod. But do you thinks jammers are effective as the paxtoni aim 120 can follow radiation emissions

    I am watching this video while working. To be honest I had a lot of doubts and questions regarding AMCA, MMRCA, Tejas 1, and Tejas 2 and I searched a no of UA-cam videos but still, I was not satisfied with their descriptions. A big thank you to Aadi sir and Air Marshal GS Bedi for doing this session as it cleared so many doubts of not just me but so many other people.

      Air Marshall, thanks for highlighting the brain drain issue. More important than everything else. Irrigate for roots before expecting fruit. And the fruits of labor need to be given to those that toil..not just the Adani's.

    • @strato1917
      @strato1917 7 місяців тому

      Air Marshall GS Bedi, thanks for pointing out limitations of combat radius for Tejas. Important to get improved conformal tanks on Tejas2 even beyond what is currently planned to leave all the pylons for good deliverables, like JDAM's. Also add new glide bombs.. specific to role..

    • @strato1917
      @strato1917 7 місяців тому

      Which also requires that Kaveri technology needs to target at least 20kN increase in dry thrust, and eventually super cruise..

      @strato1917 7 місяців тому

      Air Marshall GS Bedi and Aadi ji, about R&D, not only does it require laborious effort it requires a budget to match, which is lacking. Our defence budget allocates a paltry 5-6% for this, while it should be a healthy 20-25%>. We need sustained R&D innovations and private sector participation just like Tejas needs a sustained rate of turn to beat off future air combat threats...

    • @strato1917
      @strato1917 7 місяців тому

      Air Marshall, infrastructure needs to catch up on multiple domains... Agreed.. therefore, all the more reason we need our R&D budgets to go up.. otherwise forget about production picking up and performance in innovations keeping up... Both are dangerous scenarios

    The most balanced comments I have ever heard about the LCA . Whatever the shortcomings the Air Marshal has pointed out seem to be the result of the initial requirements thats were envisaged. However I am sure the Tejas is a good start and we can only improve from here . The Supermarine Spitfire is known as one of the most successful fighters ever built. That evolved from Mark I to IV to be a world beater . I don't see any reason for the same story to be repeated.

    A very interesting and informative talk by Air Marshal GS Bedi on the contours of the emerging trends with respect to air domination in the present and future and ably guided and hosted by Shri Aadi.
    Questions that came to mind were mostly answered during the progress of the talk. The Tejas is a good multi-role/interceptor fighter; and not really comparable with the Rafale which is a deep penetration fighter. Both have their respective roles for air domination.
    Look forward to more such talks.

      And best of all , it keeps the country independent of foriegn denial of technology . most Indian Tejas is way to go forward with changes to 5 gen fighters in 3 , 4 decades from now .

      We are still talking of LCH Tejas which has deprecated to 3G from 4G because it has taken a decade to deliver 36 units. Now HAL has proof that they are capable of taking on any challenge. It's time we moved on Tejas Mark 1a and exports of Tejas, Korea's failure to produce spares for KA-50 has left no competition to Tejas.

      Try developing a modern AESA radar and mating it to a modern beyond visual range AAM with a high kill ratio and you will clue in to how complex things really are.
      Tejas MK1A alone is 4.5 gen.
      A lot of what are claimed to be 5th gen aircraft is total BS. Such planes come with huge downsides relative to 4.5 gen aircraft. Claims of 5th gen being better than 4.5 gen aircraft have been marketing gimmicks with no clear definition of 5th gen either.
      And some like China have been downright lieing about their planes being 5th gen when all they have done is put an angled airframe on a 4th Gen plane and painted it with some radar reducing material.
      Overall, Tejas is the plane for India's defensive air battle concept where anything crossing the Himalayas gets wacked by low cost and increasingly high tech munition.
      One thing HAL has failed at is good marketing of the planes abilities and its commitment to continuous improvement.

    Tejas appears to look a bit like the SAAB Draken, the first combat aircraft capable of performing the Cobra manoeuvre. It entered service with the Swedish Air Force in 1960. They inducted the Grippen thirty-six years later, in 1996. We must learn to be patient with our planners and designers for improvements to be bolted onto the Tejas.

    In the year 2008, employees left ISRO, DRDO, NAL, HAL organisations and were joined at Eaton company because salary package was very very less in central govt. Later after 3 years employees took interest in Govt organisations and left Eaton company and joined central govt organisations. But within 3 -4 years USA based companies did Brain drain a lot. Even during BJP Govt many such important Aircrafts were procured from Safran company, France. Safran has purchased electrical and electronics department from Eaton company. Dassault - D2S company, Safran and Eaton all these three companies shared their technology for Rafel Aircraft. I am the key in this Rafel avionics. Rafel Aircraft avionics is copy and paste from Safran and Eaton.

    Highly appreciated team effort for air frame, auto pilot system and various avionics areas .
    Making the most modern jet engine is not so easy. It is a continuation in process/ upgrade current technology.
    In my understanding we failed for metallurgy in other words a combination of different materials and testing along with its heat treatment.
    No shot cut , continuation process required good money back up 24 × 7 .

    As per wiki, first flight of RAFALE was in 1986. Please note, it was the first flight, not that the design work was started in 1986. It was handed over to the services of French Navy in 2001, and of French Airforce in 2005. That is 15 and 19 years respectively, after the first flight. But even then it was not completely developed as per the specification set before development. Fully developed RAFALE fitted with AESA RADAR was made available to French Airforce in 2013 only. This is in spite of the fact that D'assault Aviation had the experience of building many other aircraft successfully before RAFALE. So it is natural that we, without any experience of building a complex system like a modern fighter aircraft, and without any industrial eco-system required for it, will take more time.

    Delta platform has higher surface area and more reflections. So, american stealth fighter avoid delta wing design. Even our AMCA doesn't have delta wing! But for other flight attributes, Delta works just fine! In the 197X Delta was avoided because of its increased drag at subsonic speeds however in 198X onwards fly by wire was able to adjust the drag factor in tandem with unstable flight designs. Hence, non stealth aircrafts designed beyond 198X will have delta wing!

Not only USA based company but also Chinese and France and Germany and Japan based company did brain drain. The point is In India there was no such opportunities during that time period. These companies did Brain drain.
    Eaton, GE, Boeing, Honeywell, Korry, Goodrich Aerospace, UTC Aerospace , Safran, Lock heed Martin, Rockwell Collins etc. I worked at Eaton company in Avionics field. I felt my brain drain. Here in Aerospace and Avionics Sector not only Engineer is important but also Cockpit panels, Actuators, sensors, Wheels, semiconductor Chips, Composite materials, Aluminum alloys, Titanium alloys, Bank materials, transmission, Fuel technology etc.

    I recently heard in a Sci/tech conference, that there was one scholar from IIT Kharagpur who developed a system for industrial mass production of Graphene. He couldn't find a backer to build an industrial facility and he was enticed by a foreign country to build a facility in that country. What a loss for India.

    The IAF should have supported the Air Force version of TEDBF. That aircraft should have been marked as Tejas MK II (Medium Combat Aircraft). Instead, they are still looking at foreign MRFA. The MOD should push the IAF a little more for Atmanirbharta.

      if the air force had designed the Tejas to be a twin engine fighter,
      the Kaveri could have been used to power it.
      Despite being underpowered, 2 x Kaveris would provide sufficient thrust
      for an MK1 version.
      Thereafter, it would have provided breathing room to improve on the Kaveri
      and produce better versions of it.
      Instead they went for the most difficult configuration of a single engine aircraft
      believing that would be cost effective than a twin engine plane.
      That made the creation of a high thrust Kaveri engine a necessity -- which was a huge challenge
      for a country that had never designed a jet engine.
      The result is tens of billions of dollars wasted importing aircraft to fill the gaps -- ironically
      all of which were twin engine.
      And yet the single engine Tejas remains dependent on a foreign engine supplier.

      What I'm saying is India should have designed Tejas to be a medium weight aircraft as its first project.
      This medium weight Tejas would have been equipped with 2 x Kaveri engines.
      The Kaveri engines are somewhat underpowered in their first iteration. But since the weight of the fighter is kept on the lower end of the scale (medium instead of heavy weight), the plane would still have more than sufficient thrust to weight ratio.
      Having 2 x engines to power a medium weight aircraft instead of one high performance engine would provide DRDO and GTRE the breathing room to improve upon the Kaveri even while the above twin engine configuration medium weight plane is deployed.
      The route they took is to design a single engine light fighter.
      But the Tejas is not light enough to compensate for the somewhat underpowered Kaveri engines ..and there is not much they can cut from the aircraft to reduce it's weight.
      If anything, with additional sensor packages being added on (e.g. FLIR, EW pods) as standard equipment for each Tejas, efforts at reducing its weight are being cancelled out by such (necessary) increases in weight.
      Twin engines would have provided more of a margin.
      But all this is in hindsight... 👀

    We never felt the immediate need to divert all our resources to the LCA project as the risks of failure weighed heavily, & the Chandigarh lobby in nexus with the Ghandys vetoed every decision to go Atmanirbhar, so we invested more money on getting foreign aircraft like Mig-29.
    India is the largest importer of arms in the world. In all international Govt-to-Govt weapons deals the middle men are kept out, not that the earlier Govts were not aware of this option,

    I think Air Marshal sir isn’t aware with latest updates ….. let me add here then 🙂… Several major world class missile and weapons have been integrated on LCA such as Astra Mk 1 & Mk 2 (likely as showcased by HAL in Africa brochure), French Hammer missile, Griffin LBG, Python, ASRAAM, R-73, Derby, SAAW (agains as per HAL), JDAM, etc etc …. the 97 new aircraft order from Airforce can not be imagine just to support aatmanirbhar, LCA is now offering something substantial.
    Once Mk-1A enters into service, Rudram-1,2, and 3, NASM-MR and BrahMos-NG will boost LCA strike capability significantly. Just imagine a fighter that can fire Indian, Israeli, Russian, and French Weapons ….
    and LCA had 8 hard points,

      Thanks for the update ! Just on the lighter side - that’s essentially the difference between reading brochures and talking to people on the ground 😊 ! 8th one is not a hard point, can’t carry weapons. It can only carry LDP or some sensor - front lateral position. But, thanks for your interest Sir !
