one of the finest jazzprices in Denmark are named after this man, who lived a long time in Copenhagen, and enriched our cultural life so much, which we are all thankfull for to this day.
I just want to say something about the this version of Once In A While. In the summer of 2016-17, I used to drive down to St Kilda beach and watch the sunset almost every evening with this on repeat and a lot of times fall asleep in my car to it. During 2016, I was a 24 year old artist working in a Factory and was getting heavily into jazz as I had purchased the 'Swingin' Jazz Favourites' playlist which had this version of Once In A While on it. I was also a drunk at a local jazz bar where I'd go most weekends and get heavily intoxicated and listen to very talented local jazz musicians come into this funky jazz bar and get the whole place dancing by playing lotsa boogie woogie and standards. It was such a great time! This song man... Such a hard time in my life but such a great time to be a young artist. I've since moved away from there and no longer drink (as i took it a bit too far!), but I will always hold a place in my heart for this tune - thanks Ben Webster's At Ease quartet! The soundtrack of a great year in my life...
Webster had a great sound. He could swing like h and played ballads better then anyone. Please check the docu they made in Holland about him. His connection with Dutch hospita Ms Hardloper is priceless ua-cam.com/video/EQrjSUdkRK4/v-deo.html
Here's pure beauty from a golden heart in a troubled frame, a body of immense sensitivity racked with sharp awareness of his position. He went away, to Europe, just to seek himself as a person, but the inner artist never varied, changed, altered. Incorruptible love and longing for better came out, singing Ben's songs and charming the sharing listener.
I have never met Ben since the Apartheid regime wouldn't make that a possibility because of its horrid dispicable laws but as youngsters in the streets and verandas of our homes in Soweto, Webster came to us and made us mull over our lives and what, if freedom were to happen, we could have been. Dreams we had aplenty and although we could not implement them and see to their germination, we had found an avenue and conduit through which they could be toned and let to bloom. The genius in us never abated and the Inventive spirit found an alabaster box in Ben Webster's sax. Today, at about 60 I am digging out the ground to yank out some of the germs for all the world to see and taste. Thanks to Jazz music and Ben's was pivotal and getting deeper in the recesses of my mind to bring them out!
Ben Webster est vraiment l'une des plus belles architectes musicales de son temps. Il y a quelques années, une très bonne amie m'a fait écouté ses œuvres. J’en serai toujours reconnaissant à son âme translucide et majestueuse, prématurément envolée
I have never heard this recording before. The mix isn't the best, but Ben Webster plays some awesome blues, and the piano man, plus the whole rhythm section is all the way there. Love it, thanks for posting!
1962 I was 12 and yet to discover the Kinks my first favourite band. I think the Beatles crossed my path, and then the Who. So this was happening then? Wow.
Is this "Hymn To Freedom" the Oscar Peterson composition I wonder? I'm not aware of it having entered the repertoire of other artists... {Thank You - this upload is magical!}.
@@ΑπόλλωνΘηρευτής I understand now. Thank you for replying to me. You must be sad that this missing track is damaged on your vinyl. For me, "Sweet Lorraine" - in Mr Webster's hands - is as close to perfect as I'm ever going to hear I think. Most everything he played, of course, was sublime, but his telling of "Sweet Lorraine" lets us hear a REAL master - minimal, gentle and subtle. Gorgeous. Thanks for uploading this quite rare album.

All time great.young players should listen to this giant. Charles, thanks for keeping him alive.
Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster are the two giants of jazz saxophonists!
Plus Coltrane and Pharao Sanders?
and wasn't there some guy called Bird ... ? anh, yeah, and Kirk... and a few others... just a few
But Ben Webster is really truly soulfully special
@@MarsiVenus33 Plus a lot more.........................................

Strutting Bird I hope you write a novel, you have it . Thanks for your story.
A great read, my friend! I've also always loved sundown at St. Kilda.

Phil Pryor You’re spot on. I met Ben during the 70’s a few times, whilst he was living in Holland. A genius on the tenor! He is sorely missed. Cheers!

Damn if I don't miss this vibe, this rhythm, this beauty of improvisation. Thank you!
Wow listening to that was a mind altering experience on planet Earth.
Un capo Webster y su conjunto, el jazz a pleno. El saxo maravilloso.

Love the Ben's Blues
hermoso sonido para el año 62, aunque imagino que ese era el target mundial

with dutch trio. Frans Vieringa is pretty good!
Does it really get any better than this ??????????
Not really!
Wooooowwwww
yeah!
There's a track missing from this download of what is a 6-track album - "Sweet Lorraine". It should be after Ben's Blues and before Hymn to Freedom.
Yes you're tight, but this track is ruined in the record.

Webster’s version of Sweet Lorraine is one of my favorite jazz songs of all time. Soooooo so beautiful!
We were blessed to have Ben in our lives
Easy when you have it. The rest of us have to just wonder at how… ?😊
Yeah pal. Music. It weaves dreams.
They never list the side men, which I think they should.
I feel the exact same way. The accompanying players are gorgeous but go unlisted. This happens with much of the music on UA-cam, which is so weird.
They're listed right there in the description:
BEN WEBSTER : tenor sax
FRANS VIERINGA : piano
GERARD HOLDGREFE : bass
TOM VAN STEENDEREN : drums

Tiene razón toda la música es un arte que se hace en equipo y en el jazz cada instrumento juega un papel protagonista y todos se articulan.
" once in awhile" should be all the time
oh yéeeeee
Scary dude.
Second song is Someone To Watch Over Me.
only music
wowowowowowowowowowowowowow

At ease seems to freeze but relax don't looks for tax.
Sueca.
This is garbage. Same old stuff they played a 1000 times.
Yes, that's why they're called classics...
theres so much reverb on the sax, completely unatural sound
😏
