    Should add the laying on it's side test. I've found that the munchkin weighted straw leaks when it lays on it's side. Cuz kids don't always close the lid and the pressure build up makes it leak.

      I agree with this. Also unless it's closed sometimes even standing up the milk somehow bubbles up and you can back to a huge mess in your fridge 😜 my kid broke off the closing lid and then lost it and yeah... Definitely leaks when left unattended. I still love it though for kids ability to finish what they are drinking.

    Got a pair of Re-Play for my twins after watching this video. What impressed me the most is actually the heavy texture on the body, making it the first one I can easily open after the kids held with their hands full of food grease. We also have Munchkin without the handles, and it holds well during drop but leaks when shaking. Nice video, Jimmy!

    Question - I’ve seen feeding/speech therapists not recommend the munchkin 360 or hard sippy cups because of tongue placement and abnormal muscle development. Thoughts?

    • @dadverb
      @dadverb  3 роки тому +7

      This is actually correct, these types of cups can have an impact on teeth as well. It's best to run with a straw or an open cup. Sippy cups do more for us as parents than a child's development. The main thing we wanted to test with this video was if the cups marketed as no-spill lived up to the name.

    I introduced the miracle 360 at 6 months and my baby was quick to learn how to use it, however, it does spill and there are little holes where mold grows if not careful (even if only using water). Then I bought the any angle because he was interested in straws, and he loved it, drank a lot more water. But the middle section of the straw (where the thick and thin parts meet) grew mold and I have been unable to clean it, no matter how hard I try. Now aged two, he has chewed on both enough to make holes on the silicon lid and straw respectively. Wish there where replacement available. Guess I am trying the replay cup next and buying replacements for the any angle, just in case.

    If you were to do this again, I would highly recommend doing a comparison of how much liquid leaks out when the sippy cups are left on their side or upside down (as they are when a toddler leaves them anywhere). That's where I've found most of my kids' sippy cups leaking and you don't realize it until there's already a puddle and everything is soaked.

    I would have added Ikea's cup as I see it in every household but looks like it leaks. Another core criteria to pick a cup would be whether they are BPA free.
    We actually use the most Take&Toss basic cups. They dont leak and kids love playing with them as a toy. Not BPA free item unfortunately.

    Great review! I'm stuck on the 360° as well but more due to my daughter biting away the soft plastic straws. It became an obsession and once the soft straw has a hole or is knawed down to a nub, it's useless. I will give the hard spout made from the recycled milk jugs a try!

  • @nanalechuga
    @nanalechuga 3 роки тому

    I have the munckin 360 as well and I was overwhelmed by how much spill it has but I found that that if you push the center (after putting the liquid in) it relizes a little bit of air and it doesn’t spill nearly as much.

    *Dr.Browns straw cup is my holy grail* It’s just like the munchkin, but better. especially for transitioning from bottle.
    -It’s WAY easier to clean: straw design can completely dry vs that area of the munchkin straw that just won’t dry or rinse!
    -It has measurements! Oz/ml! You can mix formula in the cup. The munchkin does not have this, and it’s a pia to mix formula or know how much milk your giving.
    -rubber weight that’s attached to the straw. One less part and less noise when baby shakes it.
    I tried avoiding cups w a lot of parts but when baby is transitioning/learning these type of cups I can’t seem to avoid it. Dr.Browns cup is the winner w the most simplified set up. And I hate dr.browns bottles (como tomo alllll the way lol) but they mastered the straw cup.
    I love the munchkin 360/no spill sippy cups too. I will use that after the straw. But as my Lo is transitioning away from bottle he does not seem to want to tilt his head back to drink all the time. He prefers sitting up and drinking. He has used the sippy cup since 7mo but he loves the straws better because he can drink without tilting. I’m sure he’ll use it but for this stage (10mo) he likes the “new-ness” of not having to tilt his head.

Ours after a while keeps on having milk coming up the straw when our son isn't using it. That causes large puddles of milk or water. The cup can’t handle pressure changes due to temperature, so if the liquid inside is too cold or too hot, it will spill (left the cup half-filled in the fridge, found lemonade spilled everywhere). You can relieve the pressure by twisting the cap off and back on or shaking it a little, or simply using room temp.

    Our favourite is probably the PC sippy cups (we’re in Canada). It’s sort of a cheap version of the replay. It sells for something like 4 cups for $6 and only has two parts so very dishwasher friendly. We liked the munchkin 360 when our daughter was younger but we’ve noticed over time it gets a soapy taste that we just can’t get rid of. Our daycare uses the PC sippy cups too and although they definitely don’t pass the no spill test I think they’ve been buy over time. Plus at the price point, if a couple go missing over time it’s just not a big deal.

    All of these cups cause oral dysfunction. That means abnormal swallowing pattern which can equal thousands in orthodontics and other therapies. A child as young as 6-7 mos can start leaning open cup drinking and something like an inexpensive Rubbermaid Juicebox straw cup for travel. Oral development is important, none of the cups in the video facilitate this.
